There's a new film about the Zodiac Killer being developed called The Most Dangerous Animal of All. It's based on the The New York Times bestselling book of the same name written by Gary L. Stewart, who claims that his dad, Earl Van Best. Jr., was the Zodiac Killer.
The rights to the book were acquired by Ross Dinerstein and Campfire Entertainment. The plan is to make a documentary first and then they will follow that up with a feature film. The title of the book comes from the 1932 movie The Most Dangerous Game which law enforcement for years has said could have inspired the Zodiac killer.
There have been multiple films made about the Zodiac Killer over the years. My favorite is David Fincher's 2007 film Zodiac, which is one of my favorite movies of all time. I've been fascinated with the Zodiac Killer for a long time. The...

Warner Brothers Consumer Products and Lego brick artist, Nathan Sawaya are joining forces to bring the world’s largest collection of DC Comics-related Lego art.
Patrons of this year’s Sdcc were able to get a behind the scenes look at several of Nathan’s sculptures that will start their world tour in Sydney, Australia later this month. During the DC Comics Meets Lego Art panel, Sawaya and Comic Book Artist, Jim Lee, along with DC fans had a live collaboration on a new, unique, Batmobile design to be showcased during The Art of the Brick: DC Comics exhibit.
Nathan was kind enough to provide a little Q&A and pictures of some of his work for those interested in the upcoming exhibit:
Q: Why do you use LEGOs as your medium?
A: I like to use Lego Bricks because it makes the art very accessible. Using a medium that everyone can relate to,...

Descends into emotional idiocy and insufficient intrigue to end in a disgusting place that presumes that a woman is an appropriate pawn in games men play. I’m “biast” (pro): like the cast
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
Oh, but The Gift is an infuriating movie on so many levels. It can’t decide if it wants to be serious drama or a salacious thriller, and so it’s nowhere near enough of either, and each aspect seems to be laughing at the other. It touches on sensitive, tangled emotional matters that could easily be the basis for either sort of movie — how the effects of bullying in childhood linger into adulthood; how stress and grief can render us unable to function in daily life; how even the most intimate of relationships can be tinged by a lack of...

Few things are as exhilarating to witness as the unbridled passion and joy that builders put into their Lego creations, and the same can be said of watching children play with these toys as well. That’s right. Lego building blocks are a popular toy for the imaginations of both the young and the old. Having been around since the 1950s, this timeless toy has a fascinating history and a seemingly unstoppable appeal for generation after generation. But, how did it all start and what makes it such a juggernaut?
Directors Kief Davidson and Daniel Junge have taken it upon themselves to explore and reveal the very essence of those questions and, as a result, have created what must be the most comprehensive and thorough detailing of one of the greatest toy inventions… ever! A Lego Brickumentary is narrated by comedic actor Jason Bateman, whose voice is recognizable, but played...

A Lego Brickumentary, a documentary that looks at the culture and appeal of the Lego building block, opens July 31. Like many historical documentaries, this project involved working with a wide range of archival footage, but it also made use of footage shot with a wide range of modern cameras — in one case, all shooting the same event. Co-producer and post-production supervisor Chad Herschberger of Milkhaus talked to us about the work they did on this documentary and the ins and out of post-production work, including animating faces on Lego bricks, moving media between Avid Media Composer and DaVinci […]...

A Lego Brickumentary
Written by Daniel Junge, Kief Davidson and Davis Coombe
Directed by Kief Davidson and Daniel Junge
Denmark, 2015
Documentaries on fandom often end up excessive celebration without any of the self-reflection that the genre usually provides. A Lego Brickumentary is fun, but it may not appeal to anyone who isn’t already familiar with the brand. Lego fans are a passionate bunch, and not just kids anymore. AFOLs (Adult fan of Lego) are taking the bricks and creating a movement for themselves. The Lego Movie took over the world last year, but Lego has been dominating the landscape as the number two toy company in the world for years, thanks, in part, to their super passionate fan-base.
BrickCon illustrates how the Danish phenomenon surpassed the even grandest expectations of executives. Thousands of fans flock to Seattle for such awesome sights as a replication of Rivendell built by the award-winning Alice Finch.

Piece by piece, A Lego Brickumentary builds a cohesive look the history of the popular toy, and the current subcultures that have emerged around it. Technically the second "Lego" movie in so many years, this documentary should not be mistaken for a follow-up to the smart and super-successful family comedy The Lego Movie, from filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. That's not to say Brickumentary isn't entertaining or lacks appeal for the product's primary target age group. Indeed, A Lego Brickumentary is more colorful, engaging, and interesting than most things found in today's toy store. And it's also a pretty fun movie. Hosted by a personable Lego "mini-fig" with the hair of Harry Potter and the voice of Jason Bateman, we are taken on an educational tour...

Nothing too interesting in today's MPAA ratings bulletin as we begin with a movie that was already released and appears to have scored an MPAA rating merely for Showtime showings. That is Backcountry, a backwoods horror/survival film. You can read my review here and find the reason for its R-rating below. Next is The Diary of a Teenage Girl, which made a bit of a splash at Sundance earlier this year and stars Bel Powley, Alexander Skarsgard, Christopher Meloni and Kristen Wiig. On top of the rating, the first trailer just premiered, check it out here. Otherwise, there's a G-rating for A Lego Brickumentary which will arrive on July 31 from Radius and Creep, a horror/comedy from Blumhouse and Radius that will be hitting the VOD on July 14. Check out the complete ratings bulletin below. Backcountry Rated R For language and some gruesome creature violence. Release Date: March 20, 2015 Blue...

Award-winning documentary filmmaker Daniel Junge (Iron Ladies of Liberia) was in Austin last month for the SXSW screenings of Being Evel, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2015. The documentary highlights the dynamic and stark reality behind icon Evel Knievel, who launched his stunt cycle in the 60s and 70s, inspiring generations and impacting the daredevil culture.
Junge's short film Saving Face, which follows the heart-wrenching experiences of acid attack survivors in Pakistan, won the 2012 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short as well as an Emmy for Best Documentary. His film They Killed Sister Dorothy, which documented the murder of 73-year-old activist Catholic nun Sister Dorothy Stang, won the SXSW Grand Jury and Audience awards in 2008. Do you have nightmares about Bill Lumbergh telling you to put new cover sheets on your Tps reports? For some, the corporate cubicle setting is as horrifying as the creepy boiler rooms that Freddy Krueger haunts in the A Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Script excerpts and storyboards for an imagined tenth film in the Elm Street franchise show Freddy tormenting a coma patient by placing him in a mind-numbing office environment where meaningless meetings, tear-inducing small talk, and countless hours of hellish tasks reign supreme, with no escape in sight. Also included in our latest round-up are Blu-ray / DVD release details and cover art for the Salma Hayek-starring Everly and information on the 20 recently announced Star Wars books that will take place in the time period between Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.

They often get quite a bit less attention than their fictional brethren, and it doesn’t help that many films fly under the radar while development and filming is underway. To chart this course with a little more precision, I’m launching Ioncinema.com’s latest feature, What’s Up Doc?, our monthly Top 50 Most Anticipated films, a sort of hitlist and/or snapshot of the most alluring, the most promising documentary film projects from the established documentarian guard, the new crop of future voices or the fiction filmmakers who on occasion dip their toes in the form. Curated by me, Jordan M. Smith, you’ll find docu items that are in their beginning stages to being moments away from their film festival berth. Like any such list, we can expect film items to fluctuate in ranking, with the cut-off being publicly items — such recent examples include Laura Poitras’s white hot Edward Snowden project,...

RADiUS bought rights in most of the world to release the Daniel Junge/Kief Davidson-directed Beyond The Brick: A Lego Brickumentary, a film that played Tribeca. Pic focuses on the global phenomenon that is the building block toy franchise that spans 400 billion bricks sold since the toy was hatched in 1958. I was more of a Lincoln Logs man as a child, but the ambition of some of these Lego works is pretty spectacular. Said RADiUS co-presidents Tom Quinn and Jason Janego “We’ve been looking for a film that families can enjoy together and Beyond The Brick: A Lego Brickumentary surpasses all of those expectations. The movie is an amazing ride and will appeal to Lego fans around the world.” Submarine’s Josh Braun repped the filmmakers in the deal.

Since The Lego Movie re-built popular media interest in the legendary construction toy earlier this year, the notoriously Hollywood-shy Danish toy manufacturer has become a little more open to the approaches of filmmakers. Apart from partnering with The Simpsons for their 550th episode, Variety reports that The Lego Group have officially backed a documentary – Beyond The Brick: A Lego Brickumentary – narrated by Jason Bateman.
The film is co-directed by Academy-Award winner Daniel Junge (Saving Face) and Academy-Award nominee Kief Davidson (Open Heart). It aims to take an in-depth look at the cultural impact of the Lego brick by exploring themes such as its use in art installations, its use in therapy, and the world of ‘AFOLs’ (Adult Fans Of Lego). There is certainly plenty of material for them to draw upon from around the world, as Lego recently announced that – since their launch in 1949 – over 560 billion Lego parts have been produced.
