Vanessa Morgan isn’t saying goodbye to The CW any time soon. After spending over six years portraying Southside Serpent Toni Topaz on the network’s quirky Archie Comics-inspired teen drama Riverdale, the actress has found a home on a new CW series: Wild Cards.
The Canadian-American series, which is co-produced with CBS and currently airs weekly, is part crime-solving procedural, part comedy, and part will-they/won’t-they? romance. Morgan stars as Max Mitchell, a clever and charismatic con artist who teams up with no-nonsense cop Cole Ellis (Giacomo Gianniotti) to solve crimes in exchange for staying out of jail.
At the 2024 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, Morgan — who’s previously appeared on shows like Finding Carter, Degrassi: The Next Generation, A.N.T. Farm, and The Shannara Chronicles — described her Wild Cards character Max as a “dream role.” “I would say every kind of role prepared me for this one,...

With the writers’ strike finally coming to an end, it strikes me that this may be a good opportunity to consider adjusting the process by which “Hollywood” evaluates what new films and TV shows should get the greenlight. Somehow in the ever-evolving pitch process, we seem to have replaced curiosity, collaboration and civility with a cool “show me what you got” attitude. It’s worth rethinking how to approach working with the creative community moving forward.

Amid broad cost-cutting moves, Meta is shuttering the Facebook Watch originals group, whose small slate of shows included the hit “Red Table Talk” hosted by Jada Pinkett Smith, Variety has confirmed.
A Meta representative confirmed that the company is shuttering its originals group but declined to provide further comment. The news was first reported by Deadline.
With the shutdown of Facebook Watch originals, Mina Lefevre, head of development and programing for the group, is leaving the company. Lefevre joined Meta (then called Facebook) in 2017, after serving as MTV’s head of scripted development. At Meta, Lefevre reported to Ricky Van Veen, VP of creative strategy.
Lefevre’s exit comes as Meta is cutting 10,000 jobs across the company, coming after it laid off 11,000 staffers at the end of 2022. On Wednesday, Meta announced first-quarter 2023 earnings that beat Wall Street expectations, as its revenue grew 3% for the period.

The departure comes amid a pivot for Facebook, which already had scaled back its original programming efforts since the days of scripted series such as Elizabeth Olsen-fronted Sorry For Your Loss and Sacred Lies, shepherded by Lefevre.
None of the remaining Fb Watch Originals, most notably Red Table Talk, are coming back for new seasons as the company is getting out of that business, shifting its focus on creating VR experiences in Meta Horizon Worlds that can also be deployed across Facebook, Instagram and Messenger. “Step Up Revolution” director Scott Speer has pleaded not guilty to child abuse and arson charges, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Friday.
Speer was charged with one felony count each of arson, injuring a spouse, child abuse, criminal threats and resisting arrest. He is expected to return for a preliminary hearing on June 17 in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
According to the D.A.’s office, Speer is accused of getting into an argument with his wife on April 18 and hitting her. He is further accused of threatening to set things on fire inside their Hollywood Hills home, and of lighting a broom on fire, placing the broom next to the house. Prosecutors said the couple’s 7-month-old daughter was at home during the incident.

We know sometimes it’s impossible to know when a TV show is going to end, but that makes these series finales all the more difficult to accept. These were the shows that were canceled with unanswered questions or loose plot threads and were never picked up again — meaning we never got resolution to lingering questions.
“Gilligan’s Island”
It wasn’t an outright cliffhanger, but when the show wrapped up its third season not knowing if it would be renewed, it left the crew on the island. And that’s where they’ll stay. Forever.
“Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman”
The DC Comics show ran for four seasons, ending on an open-ended future for the titular couple. Everybody knows that Clark Kent was found in a bassinet after his planet exploded, but in the Season 4 finale, he and his wife Lois find a baby in a similar predicament,...

Netflix is looking for a female actor between 13 and 21 — who is 5-foot-10 or taller — to star in its upcoming original comedy film “Tall Girl.”
The streamer announced a worldwide casting call for the live-action movie’s lead: 16-year-old Jodi, who is more than six feet tall and struggles to survive high school and ultimately embraces her stature with pride. Producers are accepting audition submissions at tallgirlcasting.com between Nov. 5-21, 2018. “Tall Girl” is slated to begin shooting in January 2019.
“Tall Girl” is directed by Nzingha Stewart and written by Sam Wolfson. Producers bill the movie as “capturing the tone” of classic John Hughes teen movies like “Sixteen Candles” and “Pretty in Pink.”
The movie “is about all the places where we feel awkward or tender, and learning not only to accept those places, but to shower them with unconditional and radical love,” Nzingha Stewart said in a statement.

Netflix and McG have set their fourth collaboration with Tall Girl, a feature which will be directed by Nzingha Stewart.
Written by Sam Wolfson, the tone is described as a John Hughes classic. It’s about 16-year-old Jodi who, at more than six feet tall, has to go above and beyond to survive high school while struggling with the constant label of being her school’s tall girl.
All of that changes when she falls for the handsome (and equally tall) foreign exchange student Stig, who gets Jodi’s quirky, best, male friend Dunkleman and his hippie mom as a host family. As a result, Jodi gets embroiled in a surprising love triangle, which helps her realize she’s far more than her insecurities about her height have led her to believe.

Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners has begun principal photography on the sequel “A Dog’s Journey.” Tailored for the Chinese market, the film sees Henry Lau, Marg Helgenberger, Betty Gilpin, and Kathryn Prescott join Dennis Quaid in the cast.
“A Dog’s Journey” is the follow-up to 2017’s “A Dog’s Purpose,” which portrayed a single dog’s spirit incarnated through the lives of four separate canines. Both films are based on the inspirational novels by W. Bruce Cameron. The film is co-financed and co-produced by Walden Media and Alibaba Pictures with Quaid reprising his role as the owner of the dog Bailey, voiced again by Josh Gad.
“A Dog’s Purpose” was a surprise hit in China, where Alibaba was a marketing and distribution partner. China delivered $88 million of the film’s $196 million global cumulative, compared with $65 million from North America.
Gail Mancuso is directing from a screenplay by the writing teams of W.

Alexis Denisof's acting career started in the tony precincts of the London stage and the Royal Shakespeare Company, segued to American cult TV hit Buffy the Vampire Slayer, followed by a string of superhero movies and TV shows, before coming to now, with his first Emmy nomination for, of all things, an episodic digital-video comedy, Stage 13's I Love Bekka & Lucy.
It's been quite a run.
From Shakespeare To Whedon
Denisof first made a splash in the United States when he was cast for two episodes in Buffy as Wesley Wyndham-Pryce, a character whose dramatic function was, Denisof says, as "a foil" and "irritant" to Sarah Michelle Gellar's titular character and other principals.
"It was one of the first things I booked coming to L.A.," Denisof said. "But I didn't know anything about the show. It was in its third season but it wasn’t airing in England.
