In the deep south of the 1920s, George, a Black school teacher from New York arrives in Montgomery Alabama to teach at the local school for colored girls. Riley, a white police officer, sees trouble on the horizon when George captures the attention of the town and is attacked by Donnie, Riley's bigoted father. When it is discovered that George is in a relationship with a white school teacher, tensions boil over and Riley must decide whether he will stand up for what he believes his right and do his duty as an officer of the law before George is killed by the Ku Klux Klan.
