In an early sequence from The Swimmers, we see both sisters Yusra and Sara Mardini jamming to “Titanium” by Sia. As they’re happily move on the dance floor in slow motion, the camera pans over to the escalating warfare happening in the background. That one scene is perfectly emblematic of the movie’s overall point of view. We watch these two real-life sisters persevere and maintained hope no matter the crises surrounding them...

At nearly two and a half hours, Netflix’s Syrian migrant drama “The Swimmers” is a long sit that goes to extraordinary efforts — from a treacly score to constant reminders that its protagonists are, you know, swimmers — to try and make you feel good, or at least feel anything. The problem is that , partially through overheated use of the pop-powered anthems of Sia. Who knew that radio-friendly hits like “Titanium” and “Unstoppable” could serve as potent theme songs for a drama about a pair of Syrian sisters who flee their war-bombed homeland for a better life in Europe?
“The Swimmers,” which is written by El Hosaini and Jack Thorne, is based on the true story of the Olympian-anointed Mardini sisters, who left their battle-torn Damascus in 2015 by boat on a treacherous path to Germany, where there’s hope things might be better. The movie, centered on Sara and Yusra, who...

At the end of “The Swimmers,” you could be excused for thinking that Syrian refugee Yusra Mardini won an Olympic gold medal. She didn’t. That’s not to detract from everything she and her older sister, Sara, went through to escape the Syrian civil war and reclaim their dreams of competitive swimming. It just means that director Sally El Hosaini and co-writer Jack Thorne didn’t know how else to wrap this inspirational true story, which is ideally suited for one of those 40-minute Oscar-grubbing documentary shorts, in their feel-good Toronto Film Fest opener.
At a bloated 134 minutes, however, your brain may well start to prune, the way fingers do when they spend too much time in water. It’s not enough that co-leads (and real-life sisters) Nathalie and Manal Issa have great chemistry on-screen, or that the plot packs some of the same oomph as last year’s “Flee.

The daughter of two doctors who showed their little girl Psycho at the age of eight, filmmaker Julia Ducournau is unapologetically the product of her environment. After her last visit in 2016 with the visceral cannibal horror Raw in Critics’ Week, which caused several audience members to faint when it screened in Toronto, festivalgoers were left reeling by the film’s inspired infusion of blood and gore into the standard rites-of-passage story. Starring Garance Marillier— who made her screen acting debut in Ducournau’s creepy 2011 short Junior—it tells the story of a young veterinary student who develops a craving for human flesh, which leads to a great deal of self-reflection and a doozy of a twist.
Cannes is already bracing for Ducournau’s return—this time bumped up into Competition—with the mysterious Titane (French for Titanium), with Vincent Lindon and newcomer Agathe Rousselle. So far, all Ducournau is revealing...

The music catalog acquisition game continues to hot up — with the major music rightsholders getting stuck in.
Universal Music Group, don’t forget, spent $1.7 billion on music rights and advances in 2020, including the $300-million-plus acquisition of Bob Dylan’s song catalog. Sony Music Group, meanwhile, recently confirmed that it spent $1.4 billion on music-related acquisitions in just the six months to end of May this year — including spending a nine-figure sum on the song catalog of Paul Simon.
Today (June 17th) it’s Warner Music Group (Wmg)‘s turn to make a splash.

While most of Outriders‘ resources are useful in one way or another, Titanium tends to be the most desirable resource for Outriders‘ challenging late game. It allows you to improve the rarity of lower-level items and raise the attributes of your existing Epic and Legendary gear.
Given how valuable Titanium is, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that it can be pretty hard to find. While not as rare as Legendary gear (or a stable connection to Outriders‘ servers), you’re going to have work to earn enough of this stuff to be able to upgrade all of the gear you’ll eventually want to upgrade. Thankfully, it turns out it’s not that hard to farm Titanium. You just need to know what to do and where to look. It also helps to be patient, but as we’re about to see, that’s not a strict requirement...

“American Idol” kicked off season 4 on ABC on February 28. Night 3, which airs February 28, features another dozen artists hoping to win over the three judges: Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Each is hoping to number among the 150 contestants who make it to the next stage: Hollywood Week. At the end of those seven days, only 40 will make the cut.
Those two score of contestants will then take turns performing on their own and with celebrity guests. Only half of this Top 40 will move on in the competition. And from these Top 20, just 14 contestants will get put through to the live shows, which begin in early April. At that point, you will be able to predict the outcome of each episode in our predictions center.

David Guetta has shared a shocking revelation about Madonna.
The 'Titanium' hitmaker made an appearance in a video by YouTubers Mcfly and Carlito, where he recalled his meeting with the seven-time Grammy winner who refused to make a record with him earlier.
David Guetta claimed he did a remix for the pop icon a long time ago, but she refused to work with him because of his astrological sign.
According to reports, Madonna had reached out to David Guetta after he won a Grammy Award in 2011 for remixing her 2009 track Revolver.
“I did a remix for Madonna a long time ago (Revolver in 2009) and I won a Grammy for the remix (best remix of a non-classical recording)."
"She calls me afterwards… she tells me that she loves this remix and she suggests that I produce her next album,” he explained during a 'True or False'-type anecdote guessing game on Sunday.

David Guetta and Sia have reunited with the launch of their brand new single,'Let's Love’.
On Thursday afternoon, the pair shared their latest collaboration, 'Let’s Love,' which initially sort-of debuted on TikTok earlier this week.
“Let’s love / And we’ll get through it all together / We’ll get through it all together / Let’s love,” Sia sings on the track.
'Let's Love' is a dance-y, anthemic track, backed by Guetta's hard-hitting drums, along with Sia’s characteristically powerhouse vocals just as bold as they did back in 2011 and in their numerous other collabs.
David Guetta and Sia aim to motivate their fans to get through the turbulent times and overcome the obstacles life presents over their latest dance-provoking and lively new track.
“During this time of isolation, I’ve been incredibly inspired to release music that has an uplifting energy,” David Guetta said in a press statement.

David Guetta and Sia are back with their first collaboration in two years. “Let’s Love” follows their 2018 single “Flames.”
“So take my hand, don’t be afraid/This too shall pass/This too shall pass,” Sia sings over Guetta’s Eighties-tipped soundscape. “And we’ll get through it all together/We’ll get through it all together … Let’s love.”
Guetta previewed a snippet of the track on TikTok earlier this week. In order to help get “over difficult times together,” he asked fans to share what they do to stay positive.
