Another disappointing Lesbian movie
LeenPeeters22 April 2016
There are so few movies around with lesbian content that I try and watch any that come out. This one was again a truly disappointing experience. First up I should admit I am a movie fanatic. I'll watch anything, except SciFi and Horror. The story line of Raven's Touch is going nowhere, the acting is good, I must must admit. For the rest I got truly annoyed with the way the 'mad' Raven was portrayed. Raven moved to a remote cabin after a tragic accident that she blames herself for. So she runs around in the woods like a lunatic in underpants and singlet...? In time she meets a mother who has taken her kids camping, and the two form a special bond when their worlds collide. Just too silly a movie to spend more time writing about it.

Everything apart from the plot was...convincing enough...much can be forgiven
edmundgrieg-8038813 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The acting, the characters, the setting, the pie. Convincing, pleasant.

Don't scratch under the surface of the plot too much. Like when we find out how the little girl died (that's hardly a spoiler-it's in practically the first scene). It would have been best to leave this detail out, because it is a throwaway line and people being shot is hardly a throwaway thing. Another example is the lunatic Other Mother. The pleading phone call at the beginning of the movie was all we needed--I got it all straightaway. (One black kid and one Asian kid are 'the children'-a little heavy-handed on the minority inclusion-it was like using their skin colour as a way to quickly convey a plot point). Her character was one dimensional and scary. It would have been better to leave her in the descriptions her ex-lover gave. Instead we were offered a poorly-developed cardboard cut-out. There was not enough set up before the sex scene. They'd barely met and the putting-ointment-on bit too obvious. The scene felt mandatory rather than natural. Any time later would have sufficed. It felt, like any other time a plot point was introduced, as forced melodrama.

Which was a pity, because this movie had a heart and a cast that hung their characters out comfortably in a beautiful setting. And, as the film is not especially long, this quibbles can largely be ignored. Let the director sing you a song, even if it is slightly off-key.

It could have been so much better
giulysinatra3 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The problem with this movie is the same as many other wlw movies: the lack of connection between the two girls/women.

The storyline is okay(?) it was poorly written but it made sense at least. The kids were a pain in the ass and had no respect to their mother, it was so bad that they preferred to go away with the psychotic ex... choices i guess. At least at the end they reconnect with their mother-

I wanna talk about the two protagonists. Raven appears as a crazy woman but is actually a very sweet person and takes care of them. Kate... actually I don't even know what to say about her. I really like the actress but her character was kind of lame(?).

Their connection was the same as a beautiful connection between two friends. Nothing more. The sex scene had no sense, they knew each other since about 2 days and they didn't even take the time to learn something about the other person. They just woke up one day and decided to have sex. Plus it also ended so badly that the didn't even kiss at the end.

I gave it a 5 just because the idea was cute and some scenes were okay, but if it wasn't for the actress who plays Kate i would probably give it a 3.

Should be titled 'Raven is a bit touched'
cekadah14 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The only thing right about this movie is the wrong story description given here on IMDb. Just read that little short synopsis and skip the movie! So here is my synopsis of this movie - There's this crazy amazon transsexual living in the woods and running around dressed like Tarzan. Raven is the name and she likes to find interesting shaped bits of wood and then takes a hunting knife or an ax to it to change it's shape even more. Raven spends a lot of time running around the woods - remember she's dressed like Tarzan. Every now and then old man Joe shows up and he gets his jolly's howling (singing) with Raven. Kate shows up with her two kids to camp in the woods. All she brings is a tent and a couple of chairs. The kids (teens) don't want to be there and I can understand why! Raven shows up like a wild beast and Kate gets all hot and bothered when she sees Raven. In the mean time Joe is wondering around town and meets Angela, she likes to cry. Then Angela drives into the woods and kidnaps the kids! Kate & Raven are at Raven's house getting it on hot and heavy. Angela shows up and tells Kate she kidnapped the kids but they ran away and are lost in the woods. Raven puts on her Tarzan outfit and takes off running through the woods with her little flashlight. One of the kids bumps her head and decides she can't cope. Raven shows up and hugs the kids after she has shoved them into an old hollow tree stump. Then there's a funeral for old man Joe and a bunch of people show up at Raven's house and go inside! The end. Oh, and Raven at this point is wearing a dress! So my question is - "Who snuffed out Joe?" Raven and the kids? Kate who stayed at Raven's house while Raven ran through the woods looking for the kids? Or was it that Angela - maybe that's why she was crying! Ha Hah!

The title should be enough to scare you away...
earthboli5 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure why 9 out of 10 lesbian films are poorly acted, super low budget, and with terrible scripts, but this movie is no departure, unfortunately.

*Spoilers*

Plot: A woman named Raven who dresses like she's been shopping at H&M but whose movements are stilted like a lizard and climbs trees finds a woman with very defined eyebrows (Kate) and her teenage kids (shifting from bratty to sweet in the same scene) camping, and yells at them for having a fire. This leads to more interactions, odd and implausible injuries, a crazy ex who runs off with the kids, and a VERY sudden, awkward, and out-of-place sex scene between Lizard Woman and Eyebrows. I literally cringed because it didn't make any sense for the women to like each other and there was no buildup or chemistry. It was also one of those "let's be artistic and sensual and do close ups of touching skin and kisses on the body" (i.e. sexless/foreplay only sex scenes) but with women who had no interest in each other. Then a random guy dies, Lizard Woman saves the kids from crazy ex, and love ensues right after the random guy's funeral.

So....in short: bad acting, bad script, and just very odd overall. Terrible, terrible movie that was so unintentionally bad that I laughed at parts that were supposed to be touching and artistic. And so many unanswered questions, such as why would a woman who lived in a cabin and only away from "civilization" for one month walk and act like she'd been raised by wolves? Why is the small "town" that random guy mentions that is a few minutes away actually a large, residential area that looks suspiciously like an LA suburb? How would Eyebrows and Raven suddenly fall in love with each other ONE WEEK after Eyebrows just got out of a bad relationship with her crazy ex?

There are much higher quality movies with lesbian themes; please avoid this one like the plague.

Better luck next time.
venisefillies18 April 2016
This film is not worth watching.Sorry, Webber ,Tracie Dinwiddie can only be type cast opposite Necar Zadegan. I just felt like the casting was just wrong. Secondly there is not much of a storyline to fall in love with. The love scene was so random not much chemistry between the two protagonists.Chemistry between two people on screen is the essence of a love story. When making a lesbian film please take some notes from Josephine Tengblad producer of Kyss Mig and also Ich will dich these are two brilliantly crafted films.A beautiful love story between two women is all I want to watch and the films just mentioned epitomize beauty. This film did not do anything for me.

Raven's 'Out Of' Touch, don't touch it, it's boring.
Boristhemoggy1 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I actually watched parts of this movie twice because of other reviews but despite what they said I could not disagree more with some of them. The opening scenes are so badly acted and formulaic with the black son, Asian daughter and all white American Mom, plus the crazy lady in the woods. The car scenes leading up to their fist meeting with Raven are so wooden and lacking spirit that I almost laughed. The encounter by the campsite...truly badly done. The other 1 hour and 15 minutes of the movie...yada yada yada. I think for a budget of £200,000 they did well but the only real saving grace from poor script, bad acting and awful direction was the nice scenery. Honestly, don't waste a precious hour and a half of you life on this.

Beautiful Story! Love Traci Dinwiddie
sophiebp-104109 January 2020
Whilst agreeing with a few of the more negative reviews here, I have come to claim my opinion on what I thought was a beautifully written and acted movie.

Without spoiling, the storyline centres around two women who ultimately find peace and serenity within themselves and each other. Raven, who has just gone through a trauma, and Kate a (what we can assume gay) mother of two.

I have to completely disagree with Raven being uncouth and wild, as when you see it through the eyes of a traumatised woman who is grieving greatly, she becomes beautifully sad to me. I think no one can judge on what they would do under such circumstances. And thus, I think Raven deserves more praise than she is currently receiving. Also, the performances from Dreya Webber was true and raw, so in response to comments saying it was miss cast I also have to disagree!

I have been a fan of T Dinwiddie for a short time, and became one after this film in fact. In no way do I think her performance was wooden by any stretch of the imagination. She quite in fact blew me away. (Also I think she's like the most beautiful person I've ever seen aha!)

Although, I will agree the love scene comes too early into their meeting and didnt have much of a building. However, I do think it was beautifully shot and wasnt too explicit (I feel in such serene films such as this, too explicit sex scenes just become uncalled for.) Also, some parts were a little far fetched like the crazy ex showing up for no more reason than putting in some angst!

I will rewatch time and time again. This is one 18 year old lesbian who is considered entertained!!

Loved this movie!
mic-779885 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Raven is not an amazon women like Tarzan. She's very depressed and feels guilty about a family members death. She goes to the woods where she grew up to get away. Kate is dealing with two teens and we know how that can be. Kate has broken up with her partner and she's wanting what may be the last camping trip she and the kids will have while they're still kids. She needs the family moments. Raven doesn't want to get close to anyone and Kate breaks down the wall a bit with her compassion, which may lead to new beginnings. I won't spoil it for you. Loved the movie! Soul Kiss gives us another winner. Dreya Weber and Traci Dinwiddie are fantastic actors.

A different film to the one described here
paul-smeenis8 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
It's nothing to do with a boy and facebook; it's a lesbian love story... how did that description get applied and stick? It's mainly set outdoors and the internet, let alone Facebook, doesn't feature.

Raven, a wild woman of the woods has encounter with family camping and is hostile at first, but a friendship develops and we find out she is grieving the loss of her niece. She teaches the family a few basic survival skills and their respect for her grows. We're introduced to Joe, a caring older guy who understands Raven and they make sweet country music, living quietly in the woods. Kate, the mother of the children Maya and Jack meets up with Raven at her cabin and they embrace and kiss. No words are spoken. The mysterious Angela watches the family from afar and gets Maya and Jack into her car, to take them into town but an argument ensues and the children jump out at Highway 22 and run off into the woods. Angela finds Kate and tells her what happened. Meanwhile, Maya stumbles and hurts herself. Kate runs to Raven's cabin and tells her Maya and Jack are lost in the woods. Raven knows the woods like the back of her hand and can work out the most likely route Maya and Jack will have taken. Will she save them? Well acted, thoughtful film.

I truly enjoyed Raven's Touch
MacGyverGirl9139 November 2015
I had the great fortune to be there for the world premiere of Raven's Touch at the Laemmle Theater in Los Angeles. I was glued to my seat for the entire length of the film. Traci Dinwiddie, Dreya Weber and David Hayward deliver that WOW experience that I was hoping for. The acting is superb. The storyline is excellent and brought to life from script to screen with great direction and attention to detail from Dreya Weber (who wrote the story & co-directed) and Marina Rice Bader(co-director & producer). The cinematography is second to none, surpassing what I had expected from a limited budgeted film. I believe that Raven's Touch was solely fan base financed. The whole experience of Raven's Touch will leave you both satisfied and wanting more. It is wonderful how Raven's(Dreya Weber) tragic story and Kate's(Traci Dinwiddie) desire for family unity collide into this moving film about discovery, understanding and healing. Do not miss this opportunity to see this film. Another home run from Soul Kiss Films.
