While we’re fully well aware that the wait for Justice League is arguably harder to endure now more than ever due to opening weekend being merely nine days away, the folks at Warner Bros. marketing are at least helping us pass the time.
As was to be expected, there have been a select few who have already had the privilege of seeing the silver screen debut of DC’s premier superhero team, be they critics or casual moviegoers that happened to have lucked into viewing an early screening. From that, varying opinions have since found their way online, with some claiming that Batman and Wonder Woman were the standout characters, while others felt the Flash stole the show. Not having seen the film myself, I’m in no place to argue, but if such praise is aiding the Flashpoint movie in being green lit, well, then I’m all for it.

When Jaws premiered in 1975, it created panic. Even for new viewers, seeing those soulless black eyes and hearing that music it changes you. Slasher movies made you weary of what could be hiding behind the shower curtain – Jaws made you afraid of any body of water. In the movies, a Great White Shark was as […]

Discovery’s race between Michael Phelps and a Great White shark made waves this week with many viewers — and not in a good way — after they realized that the Olympic gold medalist wasn’t, in fact, racing side-by-side with a live shark. In the wake of the backlash, Discovery stood up for the special, which saw Phelps pitted against — and losing to — a CGI shark, saying that the network delivered what it promised. “In ‘Phelps vs. Shark’ we enlisted world-class scientists to take up the challenge of making the world’s greatest swimmer competitive with a Great White. Even Michael Phelps has a limit. In the lead-up to Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week,” the network had been teasing a race between the Olympic gold medalist and a Great White Shark. Could one of the fastest swimmers on the planet go up against Phelps? The answer, according to “Phelps vs. Shark: Great Gold vs. Great White,” is yes. Holding 39 world records and 23 Olympic gold medals won’t save you if you go up against a Great White. As iconic as the Great White shark that stalked its characters, the score to Jaws is coming ashore on a new vinyl release from Mondo, and we have a look at the release details and artwork by Phantom City Creative ahead of the item's October release.
From Mondo: "One of the finest achievements in film music and quite possibly the most iconic score of all time, John Williams’ score to Jaws is an absolute essential for soundtrack collectors. While the Grammy-winning 1975 McA album was a re-recording, Mondo’s 2Xlp set presents the entire Academy Award-winning score as composed and recorded for the actual film in its first-ever vinyl release. Album co-producer Mike Matessino restored, edited and mixed the music from the original studio elements for the best possible quality, approved by the composer himself.

For its first nine issues, Scott Snyder’s All-Star Batman was all about journeying under the surface of some of Batman’s most dangerous foes, exploring what makes them tick and what makes them who they are. Beginning last issue, the new story arc ‘The First Ally’ is applying this tactic to another character who often doesn’t get explored any deeper than his usual, superficial role: Bruce’s butler Alfred.
Issue #11 follows on from last time and is likewise split between Alfred’s past and the present, with the two storylines having surprising connections. The present-day narrative is the main thrust of the piece, as Batman continues his investigation into the Genesis Engine – a Macguffin that can be used to rewrite human DNA, creating monsters. It’s so dangerous that even old enemies like Penguin, Black Mask and Great White Shark – who turn up for a very funny, but brief, cameo – are willing to help the Dark Knight in order to keep it out of harm’s way.
It’s an entertaining yarn, with some great moments of action – in particular, Batman punching his way out of a lake of hungry crocodiles – but the most interesting part of the issue has to be the look at Alfred’s backstory. After teasing Mr. Pennyworth’s tearaway youth in the previous issue, here we get to see how he’s much closer to Bruce than you might think; with both of them having committed themselves to a cause at a young age on the back of the loss of their father. Alfred also narrates the issue, which produces an emotional theme of the butler worrying that one day he won’t be there to protect the man that he always refers to, in this comic at least, as his “son.”

Just as Snyder is a hugely reliable writer, you always know the book is in safe hands when Rafael Albuquerque is doing the artwork. Overall, Batman’s new armoured – and still yet to be named – enemy is currently a little disappointing, as he’s basically just a lackey with not much personality. But in Albuquerque’s gripping fight scenes he makes him a formidable foe for the Dark Knight. The final few pages, full of sword fights and gun shots and fire, are brilliantly brought to life by the artist and the explosive cliffhanger will have you gasping for more.
As usual, All-Star Batman #11 also features a B-story, the second part of ‘Killers-In-Law,’ which sees Bruce going undercover in Russia to bring down a powerful crime family. It’s a fast-paced, dark and violent story from Rafael Albuquerque (on writing duties this time) and Rafael Scavone. If I’m being honest, it isn’t gripping me as much as the main strip, but this installment does deal with an interesting challenge for Batman: how can he save lives when he’s pretending to be a ruthless criminal?
All-Star Batman #11 continues to unravel a fascinating mystery regarding the one man Bruce Wayne thought he could trust above all others. Who is this new enemy on Batman’s tail? What really happened in Alfred’s past and is he hiding something from Bruce even now? Overall, this issue isn’t quite as strong as last time, but it’s still another high-quality installment of this hugely recommended series. It’s a real shame that we only have a limited number of issues left.

But when it zooms out, the camera reveals the bustling coast of a Southern California beach. “You are paddleboarding next to approximately 15 great white sharks,” says a voice. “The sharks are as close as the surf line.” The video continues and the voice you hear remains calm. As we get close to the release of The Shallows, I can’t imagine there’s a better film with the makings of a summer sleeper hit than Jaume Collet-Serra‘s shark thriller. After the immensely effective thrillers Non-Stop, Run All Night, and Unknown, his latest film is perhaps his most small-scale yet as it finds Blake Lively‘s character stranded on a piece of land next to a Great White Shark.
Sony has now released the final trailer for the film, aptly titled “The Beginning,” in which some 1951 educational voice-over about self-reliance (see below) becomes the unsettling backdrop for a shark attack. As this trailer wonderfully builds up, the attack itself is only the start of the battle.
Check out the preview for what’s one of our 40 most-anticipated films of the summer, along with a trio of international posters, below:

Fox hasn't been shy on introducing the rogue's gallery of villains to its Batman prequel series "Gotham" over the first two seasons, along with establishing their own baddies including Fish Mooney, Theo Galavan, and Jerome Valeska.
Season one introduced Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, Carmine Falcone and Salvatore Maroni as major characters along with brief appearances from characters who are or will become Two-Face, The Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Black Mask, Hush, Mr. Zsasz, The Dollmaker, The Electrocutioner
Season two incorporated Professor Hugo Strange, Mr. Freeze, Tigress, Azrael, Firefly and Clayface. So who's left to pop up in the third season? Executive producer John Stephens tells Cbr that along with the Court of Owls storyline being a big exploratory point in the third season, at least five villains tying back to the comics will appear:
"We'll be seeing Mad Hatter in Season 3. We'll be seeing the Tweedle Brothers, too, if we're going to bring the Hatter in.

We've never seen Blake Lively quite like this before. While the actress has shown us how to live forever in Age of Adaline, how to land a super hero in Green Lantern and how to survive the Upper East Side in Gossip Girl, she's teaching us something we never hope to use in her newest film: how to fight off a shark. The Shallows trailer was released on Wednesday, portraying Lively as Nancy, a Baylor student who takes a surfing trip that almost costs her life. You guessed it: she's attacked by a Great White shark while surfing alone. Though she's just a short distance from shore and only 200 yards away from her chances at survival, the feat proves to be the "ultimate contest of...

Sony’s The Shallows opens domestically on June 29 and starts trailering with Captain America: Civil War this weekend. Up above is a new look. Blake Lively stars in the thriller that’s helmed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by Anthony Jaswinski. Producers are Lynn Harris and Matti Leshem. Lively plays Nancy, a young woman grieving the loss her mother. When surfing off a secluded beach, she finds herself in the feeding ground of a Great White shark. Though she is stranded…...

After proving he can bring thrills like few other up-and-coming directors in Hollywood with Non-Stop, Run All Night, and Unknown, helmer Jaume Collet-Serra won’t be teaming with Liam Neeson for next feature, but he’s got quite the match-up: Blake Lively vs. a Great White Shark.
The one-location thriller The Shallows finds the actress stranded on the small portion of land in which a Great White Shark is circling. We now have a full-length trailer for the film, which is quite incredible at amping up tension as we see others get taken down by the foe, and Lively’s character hang on for her life.
Check it out below for what’s one of our 40 most-anticipated films of the summer.

Meg has been a project that has been floating around Hollywood since 2006. It keeps trying to get traction, but for some reason it keeps failing to launch. Lately, it has found the traction that it needs and has even got its lead in place. If you haven’t heard about Meg, here's a brief synopsis:
A deep sea submersible pilot revisits his past fears in the Mariana Trench, and accidentally unleashes the seventy foot ancestor of the Great White Shark believed to be extinct.
According to Deadline action star Jason Statham is in negotiations to take on the Mega Shark film:
The Jon Turbeltaub-directed movie Meg has a big shark, and now it has a big star. Jason Statham is in negotiations to star in the adaptation of the novel of the same name that Warner Bros is moving forward with in conjunction with China-based Gravity. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is...

From killer bees to Steven Seagal, Michael Caine's seen it all. We celebrate five hilarious performances in five very bad B-movies...
"If there is one thing worse than being offered bad scripts it's being offered none at all," Michael Caine once noted - an admission that might explain some of the roles he's taken on over his long and often wonderful career.
Michael Caine may have attained national treasure status now, but from the late 70s to the middle of the 90s, classic roles like Dr Frank Bryant in Educating Rita and Scrooge The Muppet Christmas Carol were interspersed with some - shall we say - less acclaimed movies. Yet even when the production values were awful, the script stank and the films flopped, Michael Caine's performances often remained fascinating. This isn't to say he was necessarily putting his heart and soul into them -...

The opening of Star Wars perfectly illustrated the might of the Empire. Ryan looks at the making of the film’s classic shot...
We’re bathed in the inky blackness of space. The stars seem to sparkle as the camera tilts down, slowly, slowly, to the blue haze of a planet, its surface spanning off as far as the eye can see. John Williams’ music quietens to a murmur, allowing us just a moment to admire the serenity of the view before a ship - skinny and jagged - hurtles over the head, pursued by the sound of laser fire.
As Williams’ orchestra builds to a crescendo, another, unexpectedly huge shape looms into view. It’s our first ever glimpse of an Imperial Star Destroyer - a vast, skull-white battleship. The speed of its movement is vaguely reminiscent of a Great White shark on the hunt. Its...

It’s “Bridget Jones” No. 3 and Colin Firth is out of the picture. Sort of. Jones (Renee Zellweger) and Mark Darcy (Firth) are now divorced, and the titular character is getting on with her life. In a new trailer for “Bridget Jones’s Baby,” which premiered on “Ellen,” Jones has a new job, a cupcake, and a fresh love interest. Oh, and she’s also got a bun in the oven. Over 40 years after Steven Spielberg created the blockbuster with Jaws — and fostered a global fear of sharks — Hollywood is still using it as a scare tactic. Following Open Water, Deep Blue Sea, and many more thrillers, it’s now Jaume Collet-Serra‘s turn to terrify audiences with this summer’s The Shallows.
Starring Blake Lively, it looks to be a one-location thriller as she’s stranded on the small portion of land in which a Great White Shark is circling. With Jaume Collet-Serra proving he’s one of the most under-appreciated directors in terms of engineering thrills after Non-Stop, Run All Night, and Unknown, even without Liam Neeson, we can’t wait to see what he has in store here. Check out the trailer below.

10. Alien
Directed by Ridley Scott
Written by Dan O’Bannon
UK / USA, 1979
Genre: Sci-Fi Horror
Boasting one of the greatest taglines of all time – “In space, no one can hear you scream” – Alien blends science fiction, horror, and bleak poetry into what could have easily turned into a simple B-monster movie. In fact, the movie was originally pitched to producers as “Jaws in space,” but thankfully Ridley Scott, who was stepping behind the camera for only the second time, took the film far more seriously. Like Steven Spielberg’s great thriller, most of the running time relies on the viewer’s imagination since Scott carefully restricts how little we see of the creature. Alien can certainly test a viewer’s patience. This is an extremely slow burn (something unusual for the genre) and despite the budget, stellar effects, and ambitious set design, Alien in a sense is a minimalist film...
