I wasn't convinced

Warning: Spoilers
"Mermaids: The New Evidence" is a 42-minute documentary and the sequel to a full feature documentary on the same subject from 2 years earlier. The director here is Christina Bavetta, an Emmy nominee, and the host is Jon Frankel. He interviews several scientists in the studio while we see some footage from them throughout this documentary. I don't know if this is really scam like some other reviewers wrote, but I also cannot say I was particularly impressed by this effort here. There are some interesting aspects occasionally, but as a whole it did not feel convincing to me. Do mermaids really exist? I myself doubt it. However, I am sure that in the deep grounds of the oceans where everything is dark and no human has even been before, we may find some creatures we have not yet come across so far. Maybe we can categorize them as fish or squid biologically, maybe we can't. I always thought we should discover that area first before we step into space, but science disagreed I guess. Anyway, back to this documentary movie, all in all, I won't recommend it. There were also some pretty cringeworthy moments, for example when some of the scientists kissed their asses constantly in front of the camera. Thumbs down

Don't be fooled folks...(g)

I watched both of these programs "the original" and am in the middle of this new one as i type this dubbed "The New Evidence". I've ALWAYS been fascinated by the "paranormal" or unknown if you will. But for these folks and more importantly the Animal Planet channel to even remotely project this is genuinely sound footage is ridiculous. Now all that said, if you want to watch a great "fictitious program" or anything like it for that matter that comes off as being "legit" than by all means you'll enjoy it immensely if your into this sort of thing. But i'm really really ashamed of Animal Planet to put together something like this because i've always considered there programming educational and informative. I've been in the avian field now I.E. (the study of birds) for nearly 30yrs now having field experience with both wild & exotic pet species. I've worked with a countless number of species including parrots of which i own 6 species myself. So in saying that, i have a pretty damn good eye or feel for something that is reported "legit" or it ending up being fake. Don't feel your gullible folks if you believed this, because it was put together that way on purpose. However, all you have to do is look up online these names of these characters for example, the marine biologist or the UK District Officer for there Coastguard. And you'll come to find that these names simply DO NOT exist nor do there positions. So bottom line folks, enjoy the programming but don't be a sucker because there absolutely NO legitimacy to these programs what so ever. HOWEVER, ask me about AREA 51 and if something really did happen in Roswell in 1947 and if my government has been concealing this all these years. Well then...Now we can talk about something with some "legitimacy"....(g)

Incredible
JohnLeeT23 March 2014
This deserves two stars for Ron Maestri giving the performance of a lifetime as "an expert on circuses and sideshows, historian and consultant to the Smithsonian." He delivers his lines like he rehearsed them a thousand times and really knows his stuff. The "oceanographer" who supposedly set the scientific community off into an uproar by revealing footage of mermaids cavorting doesn't do nearly as good a job in his part, although his name isn't in the credits here, he looks very, very familiar. In fact, all the "experts" and "officials" are actors we know we've seen before somewhere. Maestri, best known for the cell phone commercial where he plays "the McCann Twins", has such unique features and his visage is so effectively burned into our psyches by the constant repetition of that ad, that you will start wondering about the nonsense presented once he appears. And that is exactly what this so-called documentary is: complete nonsense and in no sense a serious piece deserving of being shown on Animal Planet. It's more on the level of Alien Autopsy.

clever idea but

This was a great comedy doc but why did discovery channel put this program on if they knew the stupid would think its real. It's similar to ancient aliens and nasa nasa undiscovered files finding big foot. It's where they use facts and twist them and make it seem plausable so people believe.

Outrageous Cover-Up and Now Indisputable Evidence of The Truth
dianerpessler-4616418 July 2015
To say this documentary is persuasive is a gargantuan understatement. The video revealed in this program is both shocking and overwhelming. This is the most powerful evidence of the actual existence of these poor creatures ever presented to the public. The experts interviewed have risked their careers to speak out because they believe in the truth, transparency, and the value of a living being. Their integrity is certainly without question based upon their credentials and passion. It is an outrage that the government somehow believes that we as a people can't handle the revelation that we share our oceans with these harmless, human-like sea creatures. However, after some study one has to wonder if the U.S. Navy's sonic weapon testing, which threatens to destroy this magnificent population, is a higher priority than the preservation of a living wonder. It seems likely there would be an outcry if Americans were aware of the Navy's destructive practices and protection for this species would be demanded. Someday what is happening will be accepted as fact and the shame of what we have allowed will weigh heavily on our souls. Anyone who watches this program will certainly be convinced of the truth and perhaps action will at last be taken on behalf of our innocent earthly cohabitants. We can not go on dismissing the evidence that's before our very eyes. Is the news media in on suppressing this?? CNN should blow it all wide open! Have threats been made to keep it quiet??? National Security Again?!
