Put a chick in it and make her gay
ssvfolder-12 November 2023
The absolutely correct phrase that emphasize the current problem with movies and shows.

Matt and Trey had given us this gem of an episode that finally tackles these annoying issues that plague the Hollywood today.

The plot is amazing and relevant to the current situation. People had forget how to work with their hands. All characters are being replaced. Stupid multiverse on every corner. Such an amazing dig at many of Hollywood giants.

Thank you Matt and Trey for this masterpiece of great piece of humor. Never surrender and keep it up. These aren't the best of times and this show keep up the spirit. Amazing and highly advised for all.

The best criticism and satire towards the social division due to the clash between politics and entertainment
Elvis-Del-Valle8 November 2023
This special is a witty response to everything that has been resonating on social media about Disney's bad decisions. The biggest defect that this company usually has is that it always seeks to please everyone in any way and the reality is that you cannot do that. You always have to choose one thing or the other and not both because they are so opposite. What has always been judged is the recycling of certain projects as something unoriginal and even lazy. The part of laziness is accompanied by how dependence on technology has caused us to lose the ability to do something manually. It is an allegory of how the use of technology in the world of entertainment is used to give more priority to productions, putting them above good manual writing. Which could have been a factor in the writers' strike over the use of AI, which is what this special also parodies.

The multiverse has become a means to justify the expansion of franchises and physical changes in characters. The reality is that in the multiverse everything is valid without exceptions and even though the change of sex or race in a character is not to the liking of many, it is just as valid. The problem comes when, when reimagining something, you don't show enough commitment or effort to turn it into something worthy of praise. Since in the multiverse everything is valid, these types of errors are allowed, but more correct things are also allowed, such as the case of Miles Morales in Spiderverse as Kyle mentioned. Simply, the possibilities of making a successful or unsuccessful imagination or recreation are open, since in the multiverse everything is valid.

When the time comes to use that as a means to raise awareness in society, the problem begins that has created a great cleavage between the public and the film industry. What is seen in this special is an alternate universe where there is an absence of white people and it is a clear criticism of how wanting to give enough priority to other races in a project causes the white race to end up absent, generating an imbalance. When you want to talk and equality, it is always necessary that all races in general be present to maintain the correct balance. Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that when talking about these projects, the media gives more priority to insignificant things than to the projects themselves. This was the case with the kiss in Lightyear, the false news of a romance in Strange World or the modified blue fairy in Pinocchio. Ironically, the enormous negative reaction that resorted to hate showed that in part Disney was always right regarding a sector of the public and that there is enormous paranoia that suggests that there is indoctrination involved and that anything that touches on leftist themes is bad. The rejection of The Little Mermaid and Ruby Gillman's hasty adoration for her character Chelsea show that Disney was always right when saying that The Little Mermaid haters were discriminatory, but when the topic of Hey Cousins came up later, Disney fell into the same prejudice as the public. This is where the fundamental message of this South Park special comes in.

What needs to be understood, and it is something that only intelligent people can understand, is that hatred towards Disney is something incompetent that will continue to drive it to produce more products in response to intolerance. It's true that, as this special shows, Disney's profits are declining. But this company has always been involved in politics since its founding. For the world of politics it is convenient to create social division and the controversies of Disney products have also been essential for this. By responding to the supposed controversies aggressively, this shows that Disney is right about intolerance and gives it more reason to produce products that continue to generate noise. The bad thing is that due to the high priority that the media gives to inclusions, when questioning the quality of the product or judging it only by the inclusions it has, companies can no longer differentiate those who are judging the product in a constructive way. Of the one who only judges it by its inclusions. For this reason, both end up being put under the same label of discriminatory person. It is a mistake that many left-wing users make and even right-wing users themselves when someone comes to give a positive opinion of something that has inclusion, but they approved it only because they judge the product itself. This division is a clear consequence of the controversies that are not good for the world of cinema, but are quite beneficial for the world of politics. It's something that people on the left and people on the right will never understand why they always fight to see who is right. The reality is that both lack true intelligence and are therefore very easy to manipulate. When they look for someone to blame for a failure, they put the blame on people on the right and when they look for someone to blame for a poorly executed product, they put the blame on people on the left.

It is completely correct and just what is special about South Park suggests because Disney's inclusions do not contribute anything to social movements and do not help to improve their projects, but the hatred towards Disney is not going to stop what it does and will only encourage it more to continue making the same wrong decision. That is the moral of this episode of South Park and only those of us who are really intelligent can agree with that moral. Although there are some holes that should have been filled, there is no doubt that Joining The Panderverse is another ingenious and fun South Park story that makes us think about how very decadent society and humanity are and how they influence the world of entertainment. My final rating for this installment of South Park is a 9/10.

Still manages to amaze
joonasjjr27 October 2023
It is tough for a show that's been running this long to stay relevant, insightful and just the right amount of edgy. The Pandemic Specials and other installations of the newer South Parks have had some visible symptoms of having lost the edge a bit - again understandable - but boy oh boy this one is probably one of the best South Park episodes in a decade.

It manages to poke fun in multiple directions at the same time and most importantly dishes out some poignant, valid critique at the industry. B-plot was a bit meh and Randy sure has gone a pretty harsh Flanderisation but it's still entertaining enough.

Sure it's going to anger a lot of people and seems to have already done so but to me that is exactly the point of South Park. These episodes is why I watch this show.

South Park Right Again
etbockjr-9672930 October 2023
South Park seems to always call out the absurd extremists on both sides of every issue. Not only do they call them out, they make it funny and entertaining. I think the world would be a better place if politicians would consult with the creators and writers of this show. With most politicians and media personalities, on both sides, out of touch with average people this would help. This special hits the nail on the head showing Hollywood laziness and shameless pandering. This episode does target Disney the most, but it's really true for the entertainment industry as a whole. I highly recommend everyone to watch this special.

Hilarious totally on point
david-wooton28 October 2023
Another excellent special hitting the nail on the head of recent events. So many parts I laughed out loud because it was so on point with current events. The South Park team are always excellent at assessing these moments and then putting them into shows. Much like the Pandemic special and Streaming wars were. I don't know how well it will go down with Disney but what this show raises are very real points which in this current climate strike the nerves of many people. As they always do they articulate what many of us think but can't say. I am actively trying not to give any details of the episode because its better to enjoy it yourself. But I would 100% recommend this special..

Great classic comedy, South Park did it once again!
mgicnick31 October 2023
If comedy is one of the best forms of criticism and social commentary that any kind of establishment or oppression is not happy with then South Park is all too familiar with being an equal opportunities offender taking comedic jabs at everyone and everything throughout its long run. This episode made the news for this exact reason, since South Park, an established franchise is the first time ever the entertainment industry dared criticise the declining state of Disney and Hollywood in general, the mockery is intense and unmistakeable, yet tasteful and comedic. The title of the episode, "pander-verse" , is a portmanteau of the multi - "verse" and "pandering" ; it is common knowledge Hollywood is mass producing mediocre superhero movies and remakes that fail at the box office one after another and it is this exact phenomenon South Park is mocking in this episode while making social commentary on the changes AI is going to bring in society.

A great episode, great commentary, a must watch, my favorite scene is parallel universe Cathleen-Cartman Kennedy ordering at the Asian Wok restaurant, the scene is too much fun!! They nailed it!

It's hilarious
center_of_the_sun29 October 2023
South Park has always been poking fun at both sides, and this is another example of that. There have been plenty of funny scenes in this special. I think no matter what "team" you're on, you'll enjoy this.

First, you have a "They took our jobs!" comeback, but this time the hillbillies are actually the educated people today who will get replaced by AI. They even protest with signs saying "Capitalism doesn't work!" That's hilarious. And then there's laughing at how entertainment industry panders way too much these days, with a focus on Disney.

I think we can all agree that in the end, there is a balance to be had, and we shouldn't go to extremes. No racism and bigotry, but also no mindless pandering.

Let characters be who they actually are, don't change their original identity for profit, but also be open to new diverse characters in a story. Otherwise, I'm afraid we're going to open up a portal to the Panderverse.

Anyway, does anybody know how to fix a broken oven door...? I can program for you, or give you dieting tips, anything you want!

They went easy on Kathlyn Kennedy - Not cool
ferozc13728 October 2023
I think they went easy on Kathlyn Kennedy and justifying why the recent movies were bad, it was not her fault; because she was angry at all hate comments she had received from people like Cartman and it somehow made her to turn everything int "diverse".

I am not sure if I agree on the argument, regardless this is so not South Park; now I feel bad for Barbara Streisand.

Kathlyn Kennedy's character has an arc and a good one, so does Cartman. It felt like Disney had some kind of effect on their choices of criticism of Disney.

Where is the Micky Mouse? I wanted the Micky Mouse who dealt with Jonas bros and started Covid 19.

I Still love South Park and hopefully we get something brutal next time.

Once again, South Park hits the nail on the head
orcanimal29 October 2023
The ability of these writers, led by Park and Stone, to highlight the very thing that's been plauging Hollywood for years now, something every studio underling is terrified to utter, is admirable.

It's ironic how the reasons for so many of Disney's failiures in recent years are so blatantly obvious to their unenthused audience, yet somehow remains a complete "mystery" to the big mouse's top brass... Luckily, South Park, alongisde Disney's disasterous performance and onslought of lazily written shows & movies, have hopefully pulled the wool over people's eyes.

Now we can only hope they try to actually prioritizing good storytelling (regardless of the ethnicity or sexual orientation of the characters).

This could be a turning point for Diseny.

But it probably won't be.

Not perfect but on the mark

Warning: Spoilers
Maybe it was the hype, but I expected better. It is good, but not great. (South Park's send-up of Harry and Meagan was GREAT!) I do recommend people see it if they can find a way to get access to Paramount+

The way they treat Kathleen K is OK, though the out they giver her at the end - probably required but disappointing to people who don't like what she has done - was a let-down.

The treatment of Bob Iger was spot on As were the Disney Executives who don't understand why making the same movie, over and over and over again isn't working.

The side story of college generating a lot of people with no valuable skills could have been left out. It seemed like an after thought, that could have been better treated as a stand alone episode.

Good job, Trey Parker and Matt Stone!
sidsilvareis4 November 2023
The producers hit the target with this intelligent and acidic humor, a trademark of South Park, Disney's current "panderverse" and the lack of creativity in Hollywood (which even seems to have its latest scripts created by AI's), so repetitive and with swapping genders and races of classic characters, making no sense at all.

It's great when a work (like this film) addresses something that all of us who love the priceless Marvel Universe, which Disney bought (it would be better to say, kidnapped) have done with our beloved characters.

I would love to see the reaction of Kathleen Kennedy, Bob Iger, Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, watching their Southparkian counterparts.

Good job, Trey Parker and Matt Stone!

Looking forward to this gang's next adventure!

One time watch
Laqshayaroraofficial29 October 2023
The South Park creators seem to be from another universe because they are the only ones consistently working hard to produce new, fun, and creative episodes and movies. This film is enjoyable to watch. Some of my friends have mentioned the increasing diversity in shows these days, and I'm glad they addressed it. Initially, I thought this movie might be split into two parts, but based on the ending, I don't think it will be. It may not be better than the previous South Park movies, but it's still entertaining to watch. I hope they release another movie or season this year. It's a one-time watch! Stream it!

If You Watch the First Ten Minutes You've Seen All They Had
frankelee30 October 2023
Surprisingly timid and lacking in substance for a two-parter episode they hyped so much. If you see the beginning of the episode, you've basically seen everything of substance the episode has, once they leave PC Principal's office there's little in terms of "biting satire" or actual story. As the writers of Family Guy once noted about Matt and Trey, they think up a single joke and then they write an episode.

Yeah there's an alternate dimension where all the characters in South Park are "diverse" women of color. That's the joke. It's not a bad joke, and they manage to retell it a few times in ways that are funny. And then you still have around 30-35 minutes of episode left to go. Yup guys, Hollywood is making weirdly desperate, "left-wing" pandering films and TV shows. And it sure is silly. Oh, and they're losing money like you can't believe. In case you didn't have a TV to know about that, now you do.

But then they have literally nowhere to go with it. Off to the side Randy goes through a B plot where AI now makes knowledge based jobs useless and he can't hire a handyman because their services are too in demand. And then handymen are billionaires and go to space. There's literally no through line to any of it, it just references real life things like it's making a point, but it doesn't make any points and the story doesn't go anywhere. Maybe they had AI literally write that subplot. It feels like they did, and it was as funny as if they did, because it wasn't funny.

Anyway, back with the Panderverse, we find out there was a magic panderstone that Kathleen Kennedy used to make movies that pandered to diverse audiences. And it worked at first but then she did it too hard because people were mean to her and wrote mean letters. Yeah, I guess if you were pressed for time and needed to hang some shaggy dog story on this premise, that'll do. Doubt Kathleen reads much fan mail. And also, I can't think of any pandering movies that do well. Ghostbusters in 2016 was a big flop, though that wasn't really meant to pander, it just was a bad marketing idea following Paul Feig and the fat lady who starred in it getting in fights with 13 year-olds on the internet that they thought were with real adults. Then in 2019 they made a bunch like Terminator Deep Fake, Charlie's Angels, and Harley Quinn and they were all massive losers.

A magic stone and a female Cartman who replaces Kathleen Kennedy don't do much to satirize things, and don't really connect with reality in such a way that you even could satirize things with them, they're just random nonsense that feels really lazy. And the episode after the very beginning is not laugh free, but it's about one laugh every five minutes or so, and no big laughs.

Not sure what there is to get out of this episode unless you're a huge South Park fanboy. It's alright, not especially biting, not especially relevant, not especially funny. Yeah, Hollywood exists in a weird leftist bubble, and all those movies they make that you, like the rest of America, aren't going to see seem rather odd because of it. Okay, got it, thanks Matt and Trey, very insightful.

Captures the hearts & minds of Americans
spwerlin29 October 2023
I don't generally write reviews, it has to be great/terrible or create just something different. So for a cartoon parody to capture why Disney, tv, and cinema is failing is magnificent. We want to be entertained and relaxed when we watch a show, not educated or bullied into what a few think is right. Now, getting back to South Park, the episode was hilarious and didnt even go into all the problems at Disney, Im sure thats for episode 2&3 and why Disney got every lawyer they could to try and block the content. As for South Park, good for them for not just going along with what is being pushed lately and showing the funny side of it. Keep it up:) i will be waiting for the sound of freedom episode.

Well executed hit on point, detail warrant a rewatch
janssen8630 October 2023
Producers and writers of franchises managed by Disney, particularly Marvel and Star Wars have been sacrificing good writing and the creation of original content to following DEI checklists. At the same time, these franchises have lost viewers.

South Park has been satirizing cultural issues like game addiction ("Make Love, Not Warcraft"), alarmism ("ManBearPig"). This time, they chose Disney's DEI actvism and lazy approach to storytelling by applying Disney's tropes to the world of South Park. In the side story, they make fun of academics who are unable to do jobs that "require having arms", i.e. Trades, while they are themselves being replaced by AI.

The story works because it reflects the experience of the Disney audience and also does so in a very clever way. In particular, the producers brilliantly executed the swapping of the South Park characters. Here, particular praise goes to the voice actresses that nailed the swapped characters: Janeshia Adams-Ginyard, Montana Jacobowitz, Diana Lauren Jones and Bibi Mama.

It pays to watch the episode to catch all the details (character-swapped detective Yate's moustache).

All in all, I expect this special to become one of the classics of the series.

best of the best of the best movie
LT-1895930 October 2023
Dont know how to express my appreciation for the whole crew that made this masterpiece. It's a treasure of the world, it's the sun shining the way for human to follow the correct path in this chaos world. The movie is unique in this universe and every generation need to watch this even thousand years later. The idea is brilliant and I didn't want to miss any second in the movie. This special episode is a testament to the show enduring appeal and ots ability to stay relevant by tackling contemporary issues with its trademark humour. The show is also a sharp critique of token diversity and corporate issue.

South Park does a brilliant job once again.
horseshoeatombomb1 November 2023
I loved this episode of South Park! Using the cartoon to address the issue that is currently afflicting the whole movie industry was brilliant! I really hope Disney watches this with an open mind and brings attention to the way it writes and produces it's movies and shows. It will not only save their streaming service but also their loss at the box office. Too much diversity everywhere all at once all hero characters dead or remade to a woman is not a good thing. It only makes it boring and overwhelming to the audience. All lead characters are not all powerful women for a reason because they don't all fit the story narrative if they were. It's like making a vanilla milkshake with sprinkles on top and then deciding hey this would be better with some caramel, chocolate, and more sprinkles mixed in. So you just keep pumping caramel, chocolate and more sprinkles before long you don't even have a milkshake you have a glass of goo noone can eat because it's too rich and full of sprinkles. There should definitely be powerful, diverse, women leads! But how about you quit being lazy and robbing characters that already exist of their identities and create characters that can grow, adapt, and actually gain a large, money paying fan bases. Get rid of all this make believe multi-verse stuff. It's ruining movies and confusing the average fan. If science actually comes out and shows us a multiverse exists and we can see and touch it I'll start believing this garbage. Until then it's just an easy way to make more movies forcing character changes you want and stories fans don't. Disney you have a responsibility to the fans, you flexed your money muscles and purchased almost everything great in film. Now have the dignity to pull yourselves out of the hole and fix the issues you have created. It's like you bought all the most exotic predators on the planet that everyone loves to see in the zoo and only fed them vegetables. Now they are dying because you wanted them to be vegan sooo bad but they are meat eaters. Come on Disney you can do this.......and if you can't sell the properties to someone that cares enough who can. They are not just movies to the fans they are our escape from the real world that isn't fun all the time. It's our escape from the broken water heater, the medical bill from cancer treatment, the loss of a loved one, the customer that cussed us out at our job, the foreclosure on our house because our job left town, the divorce we are going through, and so many other things that plague our lives. You literally hold more Disney Magic in your hands than ever before. What would Walt do?

Cheers to South Park you guys nailed it!

Amazing satire dragged down by a clunky Randy B-plot
Rooooguuu29 October 2023
The Panderverse plot and the diverse women replacing the main characters in the alternate universe had so much unused potential. The culprit? Randy. This "Event" was basically an episode that was a hilarious take on Hollywood's lazy and half-assed embrace of supposed diversity, and a Randy episode where he's frustrated by the changing world. Unfortunately, the Randy storyline was given WAY too much time and just cumbersome. I loved the Panderverse part of the episode but they could have done so much more with it had we not had to keep checking in on Randy and his problems with AI or whatever his issue was (completely forgettable plot). They sort of tied the plots together at the end but the Randy story was so far removed from the much better Panderverse story that it stopped the event dead in its tracks.

Randy needs to appear way less. We have enough cartoons about dumb dads doing dumb things (family guy, simpsons, American dad...). Randy stories are about as exciting as Meg episodes on family guy.

In summary: We could have had so much more fun in the Panderverse but instead we got 20 minutes of Randy getting pissed about billionaires or something (I skipped through his parts when rewatching-makes the episode so much better)

Yes absolutely true
thedeadflie3 November 2023
They hit the nail right on the head.

Keep up the work guys. This is awesome.

I've been watching South Park since the beginning and sometimes the shows are OK but this episode or movie is one of the best Disney try to get this show cancelled I'm glad it was able to be posted I hope they keep this up. The freedom of speech is exactly what we need these days and stop this gender whatever replacement of all these people and things. What ever happened to just good old normal movies and shows we don't need to be politically correct on everything and we don't have to change gender and race of everything leave things the way they were. It was working perfectly.

Decent special but I didn't like it as much as I expected to
jaxxds18 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was really hyped for this special but it didn't live up to expectations for me.

The good:

The concept is great. Playing off the idea of both forced diversity in movies and everyone doing a multiverse fits perfectly for South Park.

Taking shots at disney and kathleen kennedy is never not deserved and is always welcomed. I loved that Matt and Trey pointed out how disney keeps losing money and their stock is getting worse and worse. Alternate KK always telling people to put a chick in it and make her lame and gay was decently funny.

Alternate universe Kenny. Need I say more?

The alright:

Cartman was alright in this special but it felt weird having him forgive kathleen kennedy. I legit expected him to let go of her hand or something before returning to the normal universe so she could be stuck there. He also didn't have many funny moments despite the fact that he was the focus of the special.

The jokes of the panderverse plot. I liked PC Principal's thoughts on it and how he totally excepted it without thought. Nice social commentary there. Besides that, I can't remember any specific examples of anything being funny other than haha both normal and alternate Kenny like a girl with big honkers so he/she keeps telling her that Cylde is going to fart on her, ruining the prank.

The bad:

The actual shots taken at disney and kennedy. This special was extremely soft on both of them. No super sharp quips about either and they really weren't made out to be that much of a laughing stock. And frankly, they kind of made kennedy out to be not bad in the special, which feels weird. Why is the explanation for lazy writing and forced diversity that of "well I was responding to hate mail so I tried to combat racism by appealing to everyone". Like that should have been her excuse and it turns out she had much more sinister motives for the diversity but Matt and Trey didn't take it that far for some reason.

The use of the other 3 boys. Stan, Kyle, and Kenny yet again had no real importance in this special. Why is this a trend in South Park now? The whole point of the show is it's about Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny being kids in crazy situations but nowadays, the boys almost never even feel like they're friends but rather just kids who tolerate the other three more than the other kids at the school. The same can be said about Butters too. The trailer made it seem like he'd have a key role in this special but he was practically nonexistent.

The alternate universe characters' usage. These characters were completely disposable and served absolutely no importance to the story. Alternate universe Cartman did nothing and the normal boys just rolled with Cartman appearing to be a black woman after being forced to. And normal Cartman in the alternate universe experienced nothing except kathleen kennedy chasing after him. No discrimination from all the diverse women and none of them really confused by why their Cartman is now a fat white boy. Why didn't Cartman get super freaked out or mad when he saw all minorities like he did in the pee episode? It felt like a lot could be said or done with this idea yet nothing was. It was just basic stuff. It was also stupid that the alternate universe's "boys" were just saying their Cartman skipped school so she used the fat white boy to take her place.

The Randy B plot. Jesus, can we please get Randy out of having a main character status? His character has been so overused and it has overstayed its welcome for multiple seasons and specials now. And he's still running Tegridy Weed despite the fact that he went back to his old job at the end of the last special. The actual B plot is extremely boring and doesn't tie into the panderverse plot at all until the end. It's just your basic screw billionaires, the system doesn't work, and AI is better than us type preaching. It's grating to watch and Randy's modern day character is just obnoxious, unfunny, and frankly a jerk to his friends and family. Was he sometimes this way in early seasons? Yes, but that wasn't his entire character. Now it is. He's so stupid that he can't figure out how to fix a broken oven door yet he can use computers to do the countless things he's done in previous episodes/seasons. Also why did Matt and Trey write more about AI? They had a whole episode dedicated to that last season but I guess they're just fixated on it now. Please don't make AI the new Tegridy Weed of South Park.

Ultimately this special was alright but felt severely neutered. It could have done and said a lot more but for one reason or another, did not. It feels like they intended for it to be longer and be edgy yet they got told no and had to tone it back. Maybe because Paramount was worried about being sued by disney? Either way, it just felt weird and did not live up to the hype, at least in my eyes.

This was Hilarious.
ryanfarris-6428428 October 2023
This was one of the funniest piece of content I've seen in a long time. It was so accurate to the modern landscape.

  • No one likes multiverses...they make the entire plot of most modern superhero movies pointless.

  • The whole part about modern society lacking basic skills to maintain modern living standards without importing people in from foreign countries to keep the US from falling apart was just a great subplot.

  • Didn't know who Kathleen was prior to this, glad to put a face to the crimes Disney commits against cultures they don't even represent. Pillaging and perverting foreign folklore and mythology is unacceptable. We as a society need to hold these bandits to a higher standard. Hopefully then we can get new original content that represents modern society.

Insubstantial and Muddled
Pritchie4528 October 2023
This was nearly an hour long but it felt as long as a typical episode. That is one thing this special had going for it, although it is the length of two episodes it barely felt as though it was one episode in length and substance. It wasn't very funny except for a single joke and was niche in terms of the critical analysis of the subject matter explored.

The two topics explored have no relation to each other. It would have been fitting to focus on one with a special for each or reduce them to two single episodes. I enjoyed the b plot more with Randy and his broken oven. This is not advertised on the marketing or title but the more timeless and relatable concern society faces. Although it was meta and self aware with its resolution of the matter it still doesn't make a handy wavy conclusion satisfying. The problem wasn't provided with an answer and the potential of humour wasn't explored to the full extent because it was bounded to the a plot.

The a plot was interesting with its opening. It was basic and generally a modern phenomena that is t explcusive to Disney but especially not to Kathleen Kennedy. Focusing on her felt like unjust bullying of this individual who isn't well known and won't be as influencial as the company of Disney itself. The vagueness without specifying examples from Disney of the practice that horrifies Cartman handicaps the episode. South Park has always been a time capsule but nothing is preserved in this episode other than Indiana Jones which isn't even a good example. Indiana wasn't replaced by a diverse person, the movie just sucked just as the previous installment did. Kennedy only worked on Lucasfilm. Star Wars didn't even pander unlike other Disney movies. It was great seeing the male Cartman in the diverse female universe and requesting authority figures. I like Disney being name dropped but Kennedy was used as an unfair scapegoat. The scene at the principal's office was gold but everything else was a waste of time.

The ending of the movie resolved with such little care that everything after the pander stone was introduced left my head when the credits started. It undermines the b plot and prevented any critical commentary with the a plot. Is pandering an important issue and what are the effects on the entertainment industry? The final scene was a waste of time. Another waste of time was seeing the same scene from the two universe perspective without any additional humor or impact on the plot. The whole special was a waste of potential besides the commentary on over specialised society and the principal's office scene.

Boring. What happened to this show?
maikechahin10 November 2023
Had three funny jokes about the handyman but that was about it. The rest was boring nonsense that isn't at all what this show used to be. It's frustrating coming back to this show hoping that they could make something good again, but leaving with an hour lost on unfunny overly-complicated storylines with no focus on actual comedy. Don't care much about what this show's become. The season in 2018 hit classic South Park feels and was enjoyable, but since season 20 the show's been awful. Season 19 was the last great season, give me my favourite show back instead of this over-the-top, uninteresting, unfunny, overly-complicated malarkey.

Well, I loved it

With the title, it looks like it says "Pandaverse". Hey, we already have a Spider-verse. Anyway, I was so surprised to not see this listed as an actual episode of "South Park". It really is a special! I heard that Trey Parker and Matt Stone really did want to consider these things "specials" and not "movies". So, this episode features Cartman having nightmares about being replaced by a black woman.

For some reason, she and her non-white female friends all have the same boy's names! Cartman's nightmares turn out to be real, as he switches universes with a black woman. With all the talk of non-straight, non-male, and non-white Disney characters, I thought there'd be a reference to "The Owl House" in here. Why wasn't Mickey Mouse here? There's a picture of him looking sad on the wall, so did he die?

The sub-plot is about Randy hiring handymen to fix his oven. It isn't really that much about AI, as that plot's kind of dropped. This was great, if only because of the detail put into the Multiverse. I had never even heard of Kathleen Kennedy before. No, we're still going to get live-action Disney remakes, sadly. I saw this RIGHT as it was coming out. ****

They've Still Got It

It's honestly amazing how Trey and Matt managed to stay consistently brilliant throughout close to THREE DECADES. We just have to be grateful they still have love for their most famous creation, other artists usually have two-three projects in them per interest, probably spanning over 3-5 years. Compare that to almost thirty that these two are happy to spend in their 2D Universe made in a 3D software (if they are still using Maya) lol Incredible. Some seasons were weaker than others, but when you think they are done, they come back and hit you with something like this.

Unexpected. Jaw-dropping. Pushing the boundaries. As always.

I didn't think they'd come for Kathleen the way they did, to be honest. I also don't know if she deserved this criticism, to be the only one to blame for all things wrong, but they addressed that notion in a meta way, as usual, through Randy, making sure to tell us that they understand blaming one person for everything is just as stupid as always, and they simply use the hyperbole for a more concise and focused message.

Full disclosure: I'm neither pro-pandering, nor am I a 4chan troll calling Kathleen the c-word lol, but I don't like the constant and incessant drive to be changing the identities of the characters. Snow White was the first book I read (it was a Disney illustrated book, I was six), it had a special place in my heart, I used to carry that book around with me everywhere I went for months. I never thought the princess was "beautiful", I thought she was kinda fat, but in my brain she was forever that image: blue eyes, black hair, porcelain-white skin. So, to me personally, that's what Snow White is, I don't mind someone taking the character and doing whatever with it, I just hope it will also be okay to make a Snow White live action film with an actress who looked exactly like the drawing from the 30s. That's all.

"This is supposed to be Cartman" This line alone is worth a thousand letters that could be written from enraged fans of desecrated originals. Hilarious. Pointed. And to the point.

The guys were always fearless, but this time... I don't know, they outdone themselves. They said all the things that needed to be said about the current state of pop culture in general and Disney specifically.

I hope the takeaway won't be "Let's replace Kathleen with a diverse executive", although that'd be something.

It's amazing how resilient Bob Iger is, though, they've been trying to get rid of him for years, despite his stellar track record. He's just like a cockroach, keeps coming back. It was a bit... different to see Trey make him out to be the hero of the industry. You can't take South Park too seriously, but still, that aspect was a tad eyerolling. I still remember him cancelling Ellen (the 90s sitcom) and saying that the ratings were low and it was about "her being gay in every episode" in a negative way. That line alone could make him the hero of the 4chan types, though.

Fables and allegory aside, this special stands on its own: it's true to the characters and the South Park universe, the story is dynamic and engaging, the truths are unexpected and hard-hitting, I wish it was a full-length feature, I just didn't want it to end.

One piece of advice I'd have for Trey and Matt is put a birthing person in it and make her same-gender attracted, maybe. And Autistic. Would be nice.
