Scouse Inbetweeners

This is basically inbetweeners on Merseyside.

It's got a very good young cast. A nice mix with some of the adults really tying in very well.

The thing I liked about this was it's taking back to the early 2000s when comedies were not overlay censored but this does have some serious topics in them that are dealt with sympathetically whilst being very funny at the same time.

There is a bit too many 'lads' and 'girl's in the language for me but, hey, if that's what it's like in Toxteth then G'wed!

As my review title says it's a bit of Inbetweeners (posh kid moved to the area) with Derry Girls mixed in and placed in the North of England. Something that's been missing since. Shameless.

Good, but not set in Liverpool

Enjoyed the show, but it irk's me. The Show is NOT set in Liverpool. It is a Wirral show. 'shot in location - Wirral such as Birkenhead Park, Beechwood Estate, Claughton, and Wallasey' is not Liverpool. Ask any scouser, or anyone from the Wirral.

Danny Kenny the who worte the show lives on the Wirral

Suggesting this is a liverpool show it is akin to saying folks from Sunderland are Gordies!

Please please please please stop suggesting Wirral is Liverpool, and Scousers come from Wirral. It is offensive to scousers and offensive to folks from the Wirral. Stop doiing it!

Anyhow go watch it.

Hilarious but occasionally cringey

Skins, Inbetweeners, and Waterloo Road vibes with a Scouse twang.

Local Scouse actors all fitted the roles really well, the language coming naturally instead of using out of towners with a fake accent. I predict a bright future for some of the actors in the show as they really showed what's it's like being a Scouse teenager in school today.

Hopefully get to see them in more Scouse comedies or dramas.

Didn't like some of the far left rhetoric being spouted in the show, must've been written by a commie from Wallasey.

Not actually filmed in Liverpool which is another downside as it would of felt more authentic.

Other than that the story line is good and kept me watching.

Brilliant.

Great little programme. Scouser here myself and the cast really pulled this off. Boss little actors especially Reece and his mum. I mean they're all great actors. Hilarious at times and also emotional at times. I am absolutely buzzing that there is a scouse comedy out there like this. Well done to the cast and producers for a great little show!! Hopefully they will do a second series and keep them coming. Reminded me of a scouse inbetweeners. Short episodes as well with great real life story lines. Really enjoyed the show and feel made up for the actors who pulled this off. Well recommended.. Well done!!

Unafraid

It is like other school comedies but on lots of steroids!

It takes on a lot of controversial subjects but in a warm, funny and truthful way.

It is about time we saw more comedies like this, ones that are unafraid, too many UK sitcoms play it safe in my opinion and end up being middle of the road.

Accents are a bit hard to understand at first but you quickly get used to it then find yourself even talking like them but that could be just me.

Acting is great, a mixture of some older faces I recognise and then younger ones who are great also.

This does not hold back! But it does it in a fun way, I love it! Funny as.

Brilliant!

What a brilliant little series! So funny, so real, also heartwarming and emotional at the same time. We're from the Wirral, so it was nice to see familiar locations, i'm not sure if you need to be from around here to get our Scouse humour? But hopefully not! Watched with my teenager who could relate to a lot of things these kids went through! The phones, social media, TikTok, bullying, family issues, different cultures, etc!! Very clever the way there were so many little story lines put into this series but yet it wasn't too overwhelming, it just made you want to keep watching! We laughed a lot! Also had a little cry at times. We didn't want it to finish, really hoping for a second series !! Well done to the writers/producers of this fab little series!!!

Embarrassingly Bad

Managed to sit through all of about 10 minutes of the first episode before having to turn off this poor excuse for a comedy. The dialogue was painfully bad and was in no way reflective of the 'scouse' humour Liverpool is known for.

The show has quite obviously been written by those who are not from Liverpool (my guess would be someone from a neighbouring part of Merseyside) but assume they understand the subcultures and way of speaking in the city.

Save yourself the physical agony and time on this planet by choosing something else to watch that won't have your eyes rolling so far back you feel retinal detachment...

Fantastic talent

Was so pleasantly surprised watching this. I am from Liverpool myself and always cringe usually when I hear the accent badly done on tv. But this is different, it's real and the wording is natural to the way people speak here. It felt like a really nice showcase of new, young talent and the series explores many issues and takes different turns which I found really interesting.

I thought it was brilliant and special mention to Dylan Smith and Amber Harrison who I thought were stand outs, especially as this is their first go at TV (from what I understand).

It's really heartwarming, rude and light. As a 26 year old I enjoyed it and can see its appeal to many different age groups as long as you're not a prude!!

10/10 from a scouser.

Embarrassing forced comedy

Just terrible really, couldn't watch a full episode, everything about it is cringeworthy, trying to be a copy of other successful shows which just doesn't work.

A comedy about Liverpool filmed entirely on the Wirral too, just ridiculous to even associate this with scousers or anyone actually from Liverpool.

Seems more like the writers have this impression of Liverpool given that they're not actually from Liverpool, so all they're doing is taking all the phrases they think people will laugh at, not actually about the people or any scouse comedy, just more of a "oh look at the plastic scouser saying funny words"

Hoping it's cancelled so I don't have to see countless cringe adverts for it again like this time.

Great Comedy!

Great comedy with an amazing cast of young talented actors.

We really enjoyed watching this, characters and the story are really well written with some sad, poignant moments but with lots of moments that make you laugh out loud.

Reminds me very much of a derry girls/ inbetweeners but set in liverpool, so if you loved them shows I'm sure you'd love this too.

Found myself enjoying this more and more as the series went on and I got to know and love the characters more and more. Really hope to see more of this as there isn't many genuinely funny comedy's like this, which isn't too afraid of making riskier jokes and not taking things too seriously!

Funny and Moving

As a Scouser, I really enjoyed this, it shows a more fun side to the city and the dialogue was spot on.

I've watched the whole series and I have to say, I laughed out loud a lot, I honestly can't remember the last time I did that at a show or film.

Some of the humour is clever and yes some of it is silly but I like that sometimes, when you can't help but laugh.

As the series moves forward, it deals with more serious issues which surprised me but in a good way.

I have not seen many of the cast before but I am sure I will in the future.

Overall, I really enjoyed it and hope there's more, episode 4 was a cracker!

Like Derry Girls without the laughs or likeable characters

"G'wed," a recent addition to the sitcom genre, unfortunately earns a 1 out of 10 rating for its underwhelming attempt to capture the essence of teenage life in Liverpool. The show, which seemingly aspires to the heights of "Derry Girls," and "Inbetweeners" falls flat with its crude humour, lacklustre performances, and a script that fails to deliver genuine laughs.

The acting is one of the show's most glaring issues. The performances come across as forced and unnatural, lacking the effortless charm and timing that are crucial for a comedy to resonate with its audience. This is particularly disappointing given the show's potential to showcase new talent.

Adding to the woes of "G'wed," the casting choices are a comedic misstep in themselves. The show features some actors who are supposed to be in their school years, yet they possess a certain 'mature' charm that could only come from two decades of attending high school reunions. The result is a group of 'students' who look like they could be teaching the class rather than attending it, lending an unintentional humour to the show that, sadly, is its only successful joke.

Moreover, the humor in "G'wed" is crude and often misses the mark. Instead of witty banter and clever punchlines, viewers are subjected to jokes that feel plain vulgar, failing to evoke the intended humour. The show's attempts at edginess and modern, come off as try-hard and poor taste.

In its ambition to emulate the success of "Derry Girls," "G'wed" only manages to highlight its own shortcomings. Where "Derry Girls" is praised for its sharp writing and endearing characters, "G'wed" presents a pale imitation, lacking the originality and heart that made its predecessor a standout.

In conclusion, "G'wed" is an unfortunate misstep in the world of television comedies. With its badly acted, crude, and unfunny content, it serves as a stark reminder that not all shows can capture the magic of their influences.

Out of touch.

The writer of Gwed is from the Wirral, as are a number of the cast. Its also mostly filmed on the Wirral. So the show starts off on the wrong foot from the get go since everyone from Merseyside knows Liverpool and Wirral are culturally chalk and cheese. Watched the first 3 episodes and all I see is glamorisation of poverty, mockery of scousers, and pathetic and out of touch attempts to reference/relate to scouse culture. The main character's mum embodies the scouse single mum chav stereotype who swears at her kids and works a dead-end job as a dinner lady. The kids all embody the scouse stereotypes and often say words and phrases which dont quite sound right coming out of a Liverpuddlians mouth, which again is explained by the writer being from the Wirral. Notable examples include the pork casserole mentioned by the main characters friend - pork casserole is not eaten in Liverpool, why the writer didnt replace it with 'scouse' stew I will never know. Overall the show is reminicsent of Fresh off The Boat or All American Girl in that it feigns representation of Liverpool's culture which is almost unheard of in mainstream british tv, but ultimately pushes the same tired stereotypes scousers have been hearing for years, and does nothing to show a better side to Liverpool, instead choosing to glamorise the impoverished and chavvy to appeal to teen viewers. Gwed tries to do to Liverpool what Top Boy did to London, but without half as much nuance or good writing as Top Boy. Terrible show, couldnt even hire a scouse cast to represent Liverpool. Should all be ashamed of themselves for selling out this great cities reputation for a shot at stardom.

Go'wed?

The Liverpool translation is Go'ead, slang for go ahead!!! Whovevet decided to call it Go'wed hasn't been withinn 100 miles of Liverpoo. Anyone who lives either side of the Mersey will know it's Go'ead.

Who are the writers, they must be from down South or posh nobs who know nothing about Liverpool slang. I won't watch it as it infuriates me to even look at the title.

I'll carry on with this rant till I've used all the characters up, it's Go''ead shirt for Go ahead it makes sense , Go 'Wed doesn't make any sense in any language never mind Liverpool slang.

Do this is the end, rename it, !!!!!!!!!
