Throughout his career, Simon Rumley has consistently pushed himself as a filmmaker, and his latest cinematic endeavor, Fashionista, is yet another example of the writer/director evolving as a visual storyteller, as his unforgettable mystery thriller unconventionally explores the darker sides of desire and obsession. Featuring an outstanding ensemble including Amanda Fuller, Ethan Embry, Alex Essoe, and Eric Balfour (amongst others), Fashionista recently played as part of the Fantasia International Film Festival’s impressive 2017 slate.
Recently, Daily Dead spoke with Rumley about his approach to Fashionista, and he discussed how he viewed the project as his statement on consumerism and also chatted about reuniting with Fuller (who starred in Rumley’s Red, White & Blue) to take on her challenging role in this film. Rumley also talked about collaborating with Fashionista producer Tim League and how he managed to assemble the rest of his top-notch cast.

In October 1981, Sister Tadea Benz, a 76-year-old nun, was raped, strangled, beaten and stabbed to death. Johnny Frank Garrett, age 17 at the time the crimes were committed, was later convicted. He was executed in February 1992, one of more than 500 people who have been executed in the state of Texas since 1982. His case was examined in the 2008 documentary The Last Word by Jesse Quackenbush, which argued for Garrett's innocence, and serves as the basis for a new fictional feature, Johnny Frank Garrett's Last Word, directed by Simon Rumley. The film quickly introduces fictional elements. Adam Redman (Mike Doyle, The Invitation) finds himself the lone holdout on a jury that very much believes Garrett is guilty. Redman raises reasonable questions that...

Deadline reports that DC Entertainment will continue to expand their small screen universe with the addition of Titans, a new cable series coming to TNT. As of right now, it's apparently awaiting the green light while the network makes some behind the scenes changes, but Academy Award winning writer Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend) penned the pilot along with Marc Haimes (The Last Word). The site adds that, "Titans revolves around the eponymous group of young Super Heroes-to-be from the DC Universe. The action series centers on Dick Grayson (probably best known for his alter ego as Robin), who emerges from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a fearless band of new Super Heroes including Starfire, Raven and many others." There had been rumours that Nightwing might appear in Arrow, not to mention talk of the character playing a pivotal role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Spartacus: Blood & Sand alumna Erin Cummings has been cast as one of the leads in ABC’s 10-episode summer drama series The Astronaut Wives Club, from Fake Empire, Groundswell Productions and ABC Studios. Written by Stephanie Savage based on Lily Koppel’s book and directed by Nick Casavettes, it tells the real story of the women who stood beside some of the biggest heroes in American history during the height of the space race. Cummings, repped by Untitled and Paradigm, will play Marge, Deke Slayton’s outspoken wife, whose colorful past is not in keeping with the cookie-cutter image that the astronaut wives are expected to present to the world. Maternal and funny, she becomes the glue that holds the Astronaut Wives Club together. Cummings’ series credits also include ABC’s Detroit 1-8-7 and CBS’ Made In Jersey. She has three features coming out: Cold Comes The Night, Late Phases and The Last Word.

Ryan Lewis is one of the co-creators and producers of "Chosen," an original series starring Milo Ventimiglia that airs exclusively in the U.S. on the streaming site Crackle. The show, which is written and directed by Ben Ketai, is a rarity in the digital space outside of Netflix, where comedy and short form still rule the day. "Chosen" is an action series made up of six half-hour episodes that take place at a breakneck pace, with Ventimiglia's character plunged into a mysterious kill-or-be-killed game. Its ambitious leanness recalls the world of indie film more than it does traditional television, which makes sense -- Ketai wrote the screenplay for "Red White & Blue" director Simon Rumley's upcoming feature "The Last Word," and Lewis was a producer on "High School" and "Fat Kid Rules the World." With "Chosen" back for a second six-episode season on December 12th with Chad Michael Murray joining the cast,...
