Much better than the film version
GwydionMW1 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I'd found the two films OK, but this remake from the first book is much better.

I had never read the books, so changes did not bother me. It was the author who wrote the script, so complaints are silly.

But I also notice a consistent pattern of people who take the trouble to write several reviews of later episodes of a series they supposedly were bored by. I take this to be another case of racists trying to spoil a dramatisation that dares to have non-white characters in important roles.

Annabeth, described as blond in the book. And also Zeus, whom I felt was played very well.

The end follows the book in having Sally's obnoxious husband choose to open the parcel with the head of Medusa. The book is much more savage - Percy considers using it so, but leaves it to his mother. She later writes, mentioning how her husband had vanished, and meantime she has been able to sell a sculpture than is strikingly life-like. Much less ethical: it would in fact count as pre-meditated murder.

The TV series also copies the film in putting it with the end credits. An irritating habit that I suppose is put to make us watch them, and shows a lack of respect for the audience.

Still, it was an excellent adaptation. I assume we get the rest of the books.

A Great Conclusion to Season 1
e_daneva4 February 2024
The Prophecy Comes True is an amazing episode and a great ending to the series. In my opinion, whatever you may think, this is the best Percy Jackson episode so far. Unlike some people, I think this has been a great series so far and while this show has some flaws it is still enjoyable enough to watch and enjoy. I hope that Season 2 comes soon and I hope that they fix the problems the show is facing and continue it on a good mark.

This was Lance Reddick's last performance. I don't know him very well, but I know that he was in movies and shows like John Wick and The Wire. I have never watched these shows and movies before and the only time I have ever seen him in anything besides this is in Young Sheldon. Anyway, he had an outstanding performance that just blew me away and I gotta say that he is the best supporting character in this show. Unfortunately for the Percy Jackson timeline they can never have Zeus in the show anymore. Well, expect if they replace him but I don't think that this is that type of show. Unfortunately for us we can't see Zeus again because Lance made him such a strong character!! I feel very sorry about Lance Reddick and I wish that I could see him again in this show.

In the episode I also like how they added depth and attention to a very unimportant character. That character was Luke. Before this episode he was a character that was completely fleshed into the background, but this episode made him not exactly the foreground, but in the foreground. I don't think I have ever seen this much character development ever in a single episode of a TV show. You could say Luke was a one-dimensional character before, but I think that he was just so unnecessary and boring that he didn't have any dimensions. This episode just completely developed into unnecessary and unimportant to a good well rounded character. In this episode it is interesting to see Percy and Luke's relationship and how much Luke meant to Percy. I really liked that. What happened with Luke is such so great. They should have built up Luke's character block by block, but this development is both speedy and successful. Well, in my opinion. I can't wait for Luke to be in future episodes of this series and I can't wait to see how much they develop Luke however long this show will last ( hopefully however many books are in the Percy Jackson book series ).

Ares is probably my second favorite secondary character ( behind Zeus ), so when I saw him in this episode I was thrilled. The scene that Ares was in was very suspenseful and action packed. Ares was the perfect villain for the series at that point, and even thought he's not the main villain I would love for him to be. I looked the actor up and he was actually a WWE wrestler. Who knew that a WWE wrestler could be just a great actor? Ares can be very violent and tough, but he can also have his moments of defeat and be a three dimensional character. When I saw him on screen at the beginning of the episode ( and the end of We Find Out the Truth, Sort Of ), I was smiling to see him back. In my review for A God Buys Us Cheeseburgers ( S1 E5 ), I was hoping for Ares to come back in the series soon, and I didn't know how soon soon was. Well, that soon is three weeks later. I watched this episode later than the day I usually watch the new Percy Jackson episode, ( Wednesday afternoon ) and I was so happy to see Ares on the screen. I hope Ares returns in future episodes of the show

A problem they had in the last episode was that Grover was slightly clueless and his moments of humor felt very forced. In this episode they completely fixed that. Same with the slowly developed and abandoned " Percy and Annabeth are girlfriend and boyfriend " thing. That never happened, but I could see how it could've. I liked how they fixed the problem instead of just leaving it untouched, like The Simpsons. Well, the Simpsons did fix a lot of their problems but it took decades to do, while 'Awkward Grover ' got fixed in only a week. I hope that Awkward Grover will never be in the show. When he's not in the show, he can hang out with Jerk-A** Homer, Obsessively Churchy Flanders, Murderous Stewie, and all of those recycled character flanderizations that are now replaced by someone better.

There were three type of endings in this episode. First was the plot twist/cliffhanger ending that wasn't at the very end but it was the ending of the book and I would consider it an ending. Next was the Happily Ever After ending, which is the most common ending for fictional media, and is probably my least favorite ending. This ending was at the end of the episode so I guess you could call it " more real than the cliffhanger. Then was the Consequence ending in the credits, where the villain, or at least bad people, get what they deserve. First lets talk about the Plot Twist/Cliffhanger. I've read the book so I know what this ending is, but if I had never read the book I would be very confused and waiting for more. Well, I've read the book and I'm still waiting for more. This ending is truelly spectacular. Next lets talk about the Happily Ever After ending. This ending wasn't in the book, or at least I don't remember it from the book. This ending is very confusing to me, I wonder how it really happened. I've never watched the Sopranos ( I know, I haven't watched the Wire and the Sopranos ), but I know that the finale is very confusing and many people don't know what really happened ( they only have theories ). This is how I feel about this ending. Lastly is the Consequence ending. Well, I've got one word to say about this ending. Statue. Now, what is the main ending of Season 1. I would say a cliffhanger, because because of the ending, I want to watch more.

I think this episode has had the most action and drama out of all the episode in the series so far, and I hope this shows makes more amazing episodes like this. In all, I give this a 9.2 out of 10.

Good Set Up
pandora19882 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This whole season was ok but it definitely set up things really well for next season. This episode tied up this season nicely. The characters still have room for growth, but they did seem to form some great bonds along the way. I'm enjoying the mythological history swept in with the adventure. It was beautiful to see Lance Reddick in one of his last roles. I do understand the controversy with casting a black man as Zeus but I also believe it is possible it's just one of his forms. This may be the route they take since, sadly, Lance passed away last year. Either way, it was enjoyable and I'm looking forward to next season!

Solid Conclusion.
tinylinden31 January 2024
This is really an 7.5/8 for me. It's book accurate, though that means its a bit anti-climatic as the book ending didn't have a lot of narrative heft to it either. It sets the stage nicely for the next season. Not spectacular but solid. If you made it to episode 8, you'll be satisfied.

So why the 10? Because Lance Reddick's appearance was an unexpected delight. If this is the final thing he filmed before his passing then it is fitting he went out as the King of the Gods. From The Wire to Fringe to Bosch he was one of my all-time favorites. Grateful I got to see one more scene where he defied the word gravitas.

Watch til after the main credits!
rcblay31 January 2024
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this first season with my nephew (11). He just read the books and it was fun for him and I to point out the similarities/differences and why we think they were done that way. With any adaptation there are sacrifices, but the main spirit is there especially in the casted trio. If the next seasons build upon the strong characters and stay as true to the source material, then we have a lot to look forward to! If anything, I hope we get more and longer episodes!

I have kept up with all of Rick's books, and I am extremely hopeful that a whole universe will be kicked off!

The ending is only the beginning
doalaa1 February 2024
I give this show a solid 8.9/10. I have never read the books so these changes they've done doesnt really bother me. However, I agree with some critiques over lack of action, short episodes/fast pace, etc but that doesnt make the show overall terrible. This is only the start of something bigger that will happen (Kronos emerging) which will obviously show more action as well as tension and stakes becoming to rise but then again I havent read the books so lol. In my opinion, not all tv shows start off spectacular but I believe this show did good for a start off. This is only the first season and I have faith that the show will get better. The trio (Walker Leah and Aryan) have done such a wonderful job playing their characters. They have such pure chemistry in the show and they are hilarious with each other offscreen and I cannot wait for them to blossom more as the show goes on. Overall this show has the potential to reach a HUGEEE status and I hope to see it. This was a great watch!!

Oh my gods, it was amazing
rheapathak31 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This was the DEFINETELY the best finale to such an iconic series. From the starting to the ending, the flashbacks, the sword fighting with Luke, and his whole reveal, had be star stuck in my seat. The first line of the episode- "look YOU didn't want to be a half-blood?" It hit me so hard!

Seeing Percy's reaction with his father, and how natural and deep and heartbreaking it was, was media perfection. Both the actors aced it. Mount Olympus looked STUNNING, and Zeus portrayed so well too-I'm really sad Lance Reddick won't be starring in any later shows.

But I must say one of the best parts of this episode, was the Ares fight. The cast had been advertising this heavily getting all our hopes up in each of the interviews, and after 7 weeks of waiting, it definitely didn't disappoint. The whole scene was breathtaking, and had us all cheering for Percy, especially when the wave hit Ares.

I also love every scene from Sally's reunion-which was so emotional, to Gabe turning into a statue, which was arguably the best ending ever;) but the part that got me the most emotional was that last hug with Annabeth Percy and Grover, and seeing how much Leah, Walker and Aryan have grown this season-and although there acting has been incredible from the start, they seem so close and happy-both the actors and their characters...it just warmed my heart.

Near the end of the episode, Percy swore to them, that they would all meet up in the same spot, at the same time next year-and that's so true. We ARE going to see them this time, next year, in the Sea of Monsters, back together and better than ever. Now let's just start the countdown to that premiere... Thank you so much everyone on the Percy Jackson set, for giving the fans a chance to see this wonderful world brought to life-it was a dream come true:)🤗

BLUE PANCAKES
sleepyari2 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, we finally witness the famous blue pancakes. While I wish the show made time for the little things and we had more/longer episodes - the ending set up quite nicely for the rest of the series. While I felt it rushed a little bit towards the end and we lose out on some stuff from the books, they found their own pacing and made this story their own.

Jam packed with unique settings that allow the audience with more vibrant and dynamic landscapes as opposed to the flair and pizzaz the original movies gave - we find ourselves with a piece of humbling art that speaks to our inner child.

This episode in particular is ties everything in a neat ribbon signalliing the end of the season. Beginning with the emotional moment in Mount Olympus with Percy and his father and the distance between them. Endind with th betrayal of his mentor and friend and shattering Annabeth's entire world. They recover like children, slowly accepting the world for what it is and finding their footing in what's good and pure.

Sally takes note of Kronos' nightmare visits and we get the cherry on top with Gabe turning into stone. The fight between Ares and Percy feel a little anticlimactic and so does Poseidon's surrender. But the series overall feels promising and exciting, bringing back the wonder of greek mythology and youthful adventure.

I am especially looking forward to seeing Thlia, Nico and Rachel and whether they would incorporate the Roman element. Rick Riordan has done a wonderful job building this world so running out of material is the last of their worries.

Last thoughts, I hope we get to see more Percy and Annabeth scenes. They're both really coming into their own. As actors and the characters. Good job everyone! Looking forward to more!

Boring episode.
pchatzianastasiou-0251915 February 2024
If you want to shoot a scene where the Greek Gods are speaking greek or ancient greek to each other, you should at least have the decency to use Google Translate to do it right. On the contrary, you made the actors say words that came out of their minds and don't even sound like Greek. This episode was also extremely boring.
