Great fun action thriller Blood Coast Netflix serie
playtoyer8 December 2023
Blood Coast is really great! It's an action packed thriller serie that knows what it is and doesn't try to be anything else. It just trying to entertain people with interesting crime stories and great action scenes. The director of Netflix Rogue City does incredible job at story telling crime mobs stories in Marseille, France. This serie is good entertainment for people that enjoy action thriller series. This serie will keep you hooked and on the edge of your seat throughout the season. You'll want to binge all the episodes. This new serie is doing amazing storytelling set in a european country. This serie could become a success on Netflix it,s easily one of the best new action thriller series.

improves as it goes ....
anxiousgayhorseonketamine14 December 2023
....starts fairly poorly too much violence back to back to show us this is a badland those folks mean business etc etc we get it no need to bash us over the head with gore

  • then it slows down a tad so we can actually have a story. And we do. And as opposed to so many series ; I just watched Hijack (2023) recently and there they got it right for 2 episodes then turned the storyline into a real pig's dinner; well here in this one the story gets stronger as it goes .... much stronger

The acting is just enough from all none are any real good and only one or two really poor others mentioned it .... the way it ends is ridiculous as in this is the end of a season there should be some kind of resolution; you just feel they forgot the last episode of season one

IT reminds all again that Marseille is really not like the rest of the country; also EVERYTHING you see in films and series about that town is always about Arab gangs drugs and violence like a Mediterranean Chicago; not sure the tourist board will be thrilled with this one

Anyway it is very good overall; simply wished they had completed the first series before they released it.🙃😉

Exagerrated but exciting
laduqesa26 December 2023
France seems to have worse problems than many other countries with law breaking and the impenetrability of the "Cités" to law enforcement. It's bad everywhere in Europe, of course, but Marseilles seems to have it worst even in France. The city has a reputation for corruption so we can't be surprised that the series shows graft both at the highest levels and lower down in the narc squad we are following here.

The action is fast and furious, bodies pile up and a tripartite war between two rival gangs and the cops plays out. We're getting what's probably a year's worth of killing and mayhem compressed into six episodes but the series doesn't suffer from that as there's always something going on in the action.

I enjoyed this and hope there will be a season two.

Gives a slightly different thrill, at least to me
MAD_PIGE0N12 December 2023
It is another depiction of the worsening reality in France and many Western Europe's countries.

What I liked here is that the plot is not concentrated on one gang, but two and the war between them. Then you put the war the police is involved with all the consequences of the first (which all results in some good action) and on top of everything we have the bureaucracy and the corruption. Yet, for only six episodes, there was enough time to see every character's personal life's dramas, which was very nice and means there are no unnecessary scenes just for the volume, but it's all about quality.

Different characters, very good acting, I liked the soundtrack a lot and I would love to give 7.5 stars, but it isn't possible.

Starts with a bang and goes downhill
privateman-2633629 December 2023
I don't usually watch crime/gangster television shows that are told primarily from the point of view of law enforcement. The reason is there is the usual Hollywood cliches involved in the writing. Blood coast didn't fail to do exactly that.

That problem aside, the series got off to a good start by building up what should have been a epic showdown between the villians in the series. There was a huge build up of events that left you anticipating the climax, then the writers went in other directions. This leaves me to believe they might be setting it up for another season but it derailed what they had already done. Worth watching but not on repeat.

The French do it again
dmohagan-5700214 January 2024
Superb show, gripping from start to finish. The pace never lets up from the first scenes. Fine acting from all involved. Suitably menacing villains, compromised cops, and the looming threat of bureaucracy/ internal affairs. 6 episodes - perfect, none of this never ending series nonsense. The fact that is a genre piece means we all know the basic plotlines and so no need for overly boring character exposition. Plenty of space for the viewer to fill in the gaps and round out the characters for ourselves. If only the yanks and the brits could make something half as decent without all the usual fanfare.

TOP! One of the best I've seen in years!
shayanr-113-70525312 December 2023
It was a great series on Netflix. Great story, incredible actors, music, camera, everything was a great match! I couldn't stop watching it. And I wish that it was longer! But, I'm looking forward to the Season 2.

Thanks to everyone who created the series, directors, producers, writers, actors, everyone!

Keep it up, because this series was one of the most different series, breathtaking, and brilliant series that I've seen in years!

I had this feeling after watching Breaking Bad, 24, Manifest, and other great series! So, I highly recommend it to anyone that is looking for an adrenaline rush!!!

Gritty edge of the seat thriller
vanalog24 December 2023
When I started watching this, I did not expect this would keep be intrigued and on the edge of my seat until the end. The character development is on point. Every character is well explored to the point the audience is connected to each of them. The gritty and violent nature of the drama reminded me a lot of Rogue City. The camera work is sensational. It drags you into the scene even more. Actors have done a great job portraying their roles.

And what an actress Jeanne Goursaud is turning out to be! Everything she touches, turns to gold.

I really hope they make a season 2 of the show. This is the kind of shows Netflix needs to invest on.

Bad writing! Unrealistic
billydanger19 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Cops are bullet proof and everyone else isn't. The part that was the worst of the entire series was the shooting in episode six! Ali's men saw that the cops were entering the compound armed and suited up, yet they just went in as if they were not aware of this at all. To top it up, they acted surprised when the cops joined the shoot out from a flanking position... I mean come on!!! What was the writer thinking? Did no one on his crew even tell him that this doesn't make sense?

And then the part where Ali's sister got shot and Ali passed out... passed out from what? And franck decided to not finish the job by shooting him in the head? What am I looking at?

Again... super bad writing! Waste of my time!!

A miss for Olivier Marchal
claude65434 January 2024
I am a big fan of Olivier Marchal. Over the years, I have thoroughly enjoyed his many movies and TV series - they rank among the best in a genre in which the French excell: crime drama. Unfortunately, Blood Coast does not live up to expectations. The plot is unimaginative, a rehash of a story told so many times before. The actors are for the most part wooden and underwhelming. The characters are universally unlikeable and make the dumbest decisions. Swearing, while expected and welcome in such a show, is just overboard and detrimental to storytelling - every conversation turns into in-your-face, profanity-laced slang mumbo jumbo. The "music" is particularly grating - very little sucks as much as French rap. And the ending feels like a slowly deflating balloon. Total miss.

One more thing. Throughout, I kept thinking that these idiots are so fortunate to live in the south of France, a real paradise, and yet they choose to live like gangstas in run down ghettos. Fools.

Superb

Warning: Spoilers
Years ago, Ali killed Murillo's son. During the funeral, Murillo, a convict, staged an escape during which a shootout ensued and a cop, Alice's dad, died. Murillo at some point died in Venezuela and his charred corpse is used to ID him.

In the present, a guy, nicknamed the Indian, is brutally trying to take over Ali's turf and introducing crack onto the streets and taking out Ali's nephews who run the business as Ali lives in Dubai. But all the carnage forces Ali to return to Marseilles.

Alice, now a cop herself, has herself transferred to Marseilles and put in a special unit that deals with all these crimes in unorthodox ways, which makes the unit's relationship with the chief rather tense. The unit is run by Lyes, a childhood friend of Ali, since both grew up in the same housing project. For this reason, IA is building a case against Lyes.

Sure enough, back in the day, Lyes made a deal with Ali for information, to keep drug trade centralized and in control, to keep other drugs like crack away, and to keep relative peace. But the increasing bloodshed complicates things for everyone.

The first task for our unit is to find the source of the crack/the Indian and they use kids, young fences, to try and get closer and closer, but the Indian usually outsmarts them. In the process they discover that the Indian's partner/boss is none other than Murillo. Alice knew he was alive and seeking revenge was her motivation for transferring to Marseilles, but she doesn't share that info with anyone else. Once the unit discovers that Murillo is alive, he becomes their target as well. Yves knows a girl who is connected to Murillo, and surprisingly to Lyes as well. All the while they're sort of trying to keep Lyes tries to keep Ali out of things but warns him to better go back to Dubai otherwise he'll have to go after him. Ali has his hands full dealing with the constant brutal attacks by Murillo and the Indian that's decimating his family while planning revenge attacks. Along the way there are some surprises.

I love Marchal's work, I loved Rogue City, a great movie that clearly inspired this series. I love Marseilles as a setting. The bad guys are all fascinating characters, the story is excellent, Jeanne Goursaud is gorgeous, cinematography is outstanding. The weak part is the casting and the character's of most of the cops. There's the ridiculous Tatoo who'd be out of place as a janitor at a police station, let alone an elite unit cop. Arno is a big dude, but he too seems to be afraid of his own shadow. There's some lesbian girl who acts more the part, and Alice who belongs on a fashion runway. Lyes is the only somewhat believable cop character. But they all act like regular goofs with no awareness of their surroundings and taking zero precautions in spite of being obvious targets and all the slaughter around them. There's some holes in the story or silly plans by the cops to do something that could be done in much smarter ways.

Aside from that, this series in excellent, intense, exciting and shouldn't be missed by anyone who likes crime action thrillers. Can't wait for season 2.

Blood Coast: Gritty Thrills Bathed in Mediterranean Sun
Arik_P10 February 2024
Blood Coast throws a punch, leaving you breathless and wanting more. Set against the stunning backdrop of Marseille, this French crime drama dives deep into the city's underbelly, where loyalty is fractured and the line between cops and criminals blurs.

Gripping Narrative: The story, while not groundbreaking, is tightly woven and suspenseful. You'll find yourself invested in the hunt for the elusive criminal, constantly guessing who's playing who and what their true motives are. The six-episode format keeps things brisk, avoiding the drag of unnecessary filler.

Characters with Bite: The characters are complex and morally ambiguous, which is refreshing in a genre sometimes prone to cookie-cutter figures. Captain Benamar, a haunted cop pushing the boundaries, and the ruthless drug lord Saïdi are particularly captivating. While their actions may be questionable, their motivations are compelling.

Visually Striking: Marseille shines as a character itself. The cinematography captures the city's beauty and grit with equal flair, showcasing its sun-drenched streets and hidden alleyways. The action sequences are visceral and well-choreographed, adding to the immersive experience.

Not for the Faint of Heart: Be warned, Blood Coast doesn't shy away from violence and brutality. It's a raw portrayal of the criminal underworld, complete with graphic scenes and coarse language. If you have a weak stomach, steer clear.

Overall: If you're looking for a fast-paced, character-driven crime drama with a unique European flavor, Blood Coast delivers. Be prepared for some violence, but if you can handle it, you'll be rewarded with a thrilling ride through the dark heart of Marseille.

The music score contribution adds it's own character to the series.

Waste of time
alvan-malekian27 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Waste of resources ! I mean camera is good and Marseille looks beautiful. What is the worst with this series is the writing and script. A bunch of policemen who run around with weapons, no research whatsoever, just playing around with no plan. Everything for "the team". On top of that bad acting. Hip hop and rap music to "get us in the mood".

So many cliches: daughter of the murdered policeman wanting revenge for her father, everybody knew Alice and Lyes would get together, Lyes risking his team for his daughter... To be honest I was team Miranda all the time. I mean Lyes and his team are not professionals.

One of the worst series I've watched 2023.

What a disaster in the making
mariani-8409713 December 2023
Olivier marshal is a great if not one of the best in the thriller genre , an unparalleled way of filming , creating great atmosphere , speedy filming , action scenes are all really realistic and embedded in the genre , but .... Yes but what a mistake in the casting ... definitely a low that ruins the whole series ..special rating for Jeanne goursaud ..such bad acting is rare and it really spoils the entire series ... the others are not much better and Olivier Marshal really lost it here , although the scenes , the Marseille backdrop are beautifully filmed it doesn't make a difference because the script should have been more taken care of being careful to really make it believable ... it seems MMarshal was too careless on this one and it shines poorly on his filmography.

Everything is a failure, action scenes, storyline and above all terrible acting.
glyugo16 December 2023
Why put a good budget into such a basic scenario, the dialogues are ridiculous, the action scenes lousy and the icing on the cake the actors are so bad with a palm for the "hero" and his blonde friend (clearly they didn't learned at the actor studio), the only "experienced" actor duvauchelle is as usual...very bad.

Yet directed by Olivier Marchal, a former cop, this series completely lacks realism, it looks like the script written by chatGPT and played (very badly) by young reality TV addicts.

The story of revenge by a gangster who pretended to be dead after an escape (a ridiculous scene, by the way) is improbable and absolutely stupid.

Move on, another rotten Netflix production.

Boring i do not recommend
fayezahmed-2451130 December 2023
The French are losers who are not good at acting.

The writer is unprofessional and the events are also boring and shorthanded and contain exits that have nothing to do with the origin of the story.

Actress (Lais) has no role other than the last episode.

The actors' movements and features are unprofessional, and the voice dialogue does not match the movements at times.

Bad photography angles Shorthand in dialogue, adept only at cursing.

Only bad guys and minor characters die, and this makes the story boring.

Zero stars, dissatisfied, nothing to praise

A story that distorts the reputation of Arabs and contains racism.

A failed series that I do not recommend.
