Poland, 1949. The anti-illiteracy program is launched. The Zawistowski family enrolls in it - Anna out of passion, because she always wanted to become a teacher, and her husband Tadeusz sees it as a career path. A chance for promotion turns out to be a proposal to go to the eastern lands of the country to bring education there in a small village surrounded by swamps. The Zawistowskis move to a manor house converted into a school. It seems as if the war is still present in this area. After a few days, strange things start to happen. Anna hears inexplicable noises, the stove always goes out, she thinks she sees people walking around the house. As she investigates the case, she begins to understand that the residents are hiding a secret that they do not want to share. Unexplained events escalate when it turns out that Anna is pregnant, and this is just the beginning.
