Four Major Gripes
athompsonblue25 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I actually liked the tone, premise, and flow of the movie. And it was interesting to see the female lead be platonic best friends with one of the grooms, without giving his fiance any cause for worry. But the movie was ruined by four mistakes:

The first bride wore something hideous on her head.

The second couple chose their careers over each other. That's a tragedy! If you're gonna have them cancel their wedding, make it because they realized they're not right for each other. Basically, make us want them to come to that conclusion. Wedding Bells handled that better.

It would have been great to see more of the third couple's reconciliation.

And the late-movie conflict felt forced. Why can't he just take one last trip, finally fulfill his dream of photographing the Southern Lights, and THEN settle down with her? For that matter, as a magazine writer who emails her articles, why can't she just go with him to Australia?

Meh

How many of these movies have started out with the aspiring reporter pitching her boss for her shot? She is given an assignment that takes her back home and also leaves her uncertain about it. Then she is thrown together with someone from her past for the duration of the assignment.

The assignment itself is interesting. Trish is set to be bridesmaid at three wedding in short succession. How those weddings play out has at least one twist and all of them play a part in her growth as a person and a writer.

Stephanie Bennett is OK but I wasn't really sold on Trish's romance with Ryan so I can't really say I thought her chemistry with Casey Deidrick was anything special. The dialog is ok but not great. There are no great highs or lows or tension in the story.

Kudos to the cast

Could have been silly, could have been boring and over-done. But it wasn't. It was a delightful watch, mainly because of the cast. Every one of them brought their A Game and the chemistry between the 2 leads was perfect. Yes, the basic premise of getting"the story" that would make or break her career was a bit of an eye-roller but so are most of them. The fact that there were 3 couples ( which could have been confusing and wasn't) and that those couples each stood out in their own story - that's amazing on its own. Casey Deidrick and Stephanie Bennett are becoming favorites of mine. Each of them rises to the occasion every time.

Could've used more focus
MickyG33310 August 2023
6.8 stars.

I like the lead actress, she's gotta wicked beautiful smile and personality. The main actor is too much taller than the actress and that creates some challenges for the romance, however the film is entertaining enough.

The story is somewhat out of focus and there are too many cooks in the kitchen. Some of the characters' choices are illogical and lack common sense. This tilts the story on it's side a few times and leaves us wondering where this movie is going.

Eventually things work out, but they took us on a detour that will end up losing some of the audience before it's over. I like most of the actors, which is the best aspect of 'Wedding Season'.

This is the first time watching a film on hallmark that I was left not knowing what to say about it...it was such a hodgepodge.

I am going to start by saying I was excited to see this film because it starred Casey Deidrick who I love and was phenomenal in Passionflix's Driven Series...but this couldn't have been more opposite in terms of a storyline as it was beyond vanilla. Maybe this is a case of not being of the same generation but all these floundering and waffling attractive young actors are failing to gain my sympathy not to mention my attention.

I watched this film until the bitter end...and didn't really have anything to say about it. I didn't hate it, in fact I was primarily indifferent to it. A magazine assistant wants to be a front cover writer...she pitches multiple stories, her boss says no and tells her she needs to put more of herself into her stories which leads her to write about the three weddings she is going to over the next three weeks...oh and she doesn't believe in commitment. Snooze. Self focused she gives a wedding toast at the third and final wedding (that of her best friend), that is all about her journey and not really focused on the wedding couple at hand. (Super glad she isn't my best friend!).

The friendships didn't ring true...really lacking in connection. The romance was almost nonexistent. The focus is really on self and self development...but not really in a good way through conscious work.

Still left without much to say about about this film except I can't think of a single person that I would recommend it too...which is too bad because I really do like Casey Deidrick!

Looks of Love
mysay-97-5810868 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
There were some decent messages of this movie but it didn't always back it up.

What kind of magazine was this? And what kind of writer was Trish to get bullied by her boss like that?

Of course it was going to be obvious that her best friend's brother was going to be this handsome hunk of man who performs a chivalrous act to save the day.

The points that I thought were quite ridiculous. Who has 3 friends that just happen to plan weddings each a week apart and all in the same location?? Go buy a lottery ticket because I think your odds are better.

The biggest joke was the brother is supposed to be a big time photographer and uses 2 pictures to express his brother's love.

And lastly Trish is a writer, why can't she go anywhere in the world to do her job? That's selfish to hold someone back from their dream job. Hint: couple #2 got it right.

Ugh, meh, shrug.

Warning: Spoilers
Hallmark is determined to stick with characters that have jobs that don't really exist anymore. Like a magazine writer.

And I've never seen a movie with less chemistry between the romantic leads than this one. The generic blond lead is completely forgettable, and the male lead is basically a six foot tall block of wood.

This movie is a waste of time, which is kind of a shame, since some recent Hallmark movies have been if much better quality.

Well, IMBD is still insisting that reviews run at least 600 characters. Does anyone know how to stream GAC so I can get Candace Bure back on my television.?

Rooting Against Love
clokendagger7729 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
While this movie has a number of things wrong with it, I think the biggest is that it is just really difficult to root for the main character Trish.

Right away they establish Trish as an executive assistance who dreams of being a feature writer who can pick her own stories. Unfortunately she just isn't any good. Given her big shot to pitch ideas to the boss, she fails miserably. I expected the trope of her starting with the safe ideas and only pulling out the brilliant one under pressure, but nope. Nothing. She had absolutely no good ideas and even failed to see that her own situation of three weddings in three weeks could make for an interesting piece. Luckily the editor hands her an opportunity to achieve her dream by writing a piece on her upcoming wedding experiences.

Moving on to the weddings, we find that she is apparently totally against marriage and love in general? She repeatedly comes off as bitter and a poor choice for her role in these weddings. Given a rare, likely expensive, and extremely sentimental record, she carelessly puts it in her purse for "safe keeping" Seeing this it was immediately obvious that it was not going to survive until the wedding. Once broken, her reaction amounts to a "woops" and a shrug and a decision to download the song later. No remorse at breaking a rare/expensive/sentimental object that does not belong to her, and potentially ruining the couples first dance.

But hey, everyone loves a redemption story, right? Trish slowly starts coming around to the idea of love. As the movie progresses she begins falling for her best friends brother Ryan, a world traveling photographer who guides her in helping her friends. At one point he shares a dream of his own, his Everest, which is to photograph the southern lights. He even shares that a previous opportunity to achieve his goal was thwarted by a presumably selfish girlfriend. As the movie winds down and Trish and Ryan finally come together, Trish finally finds the inspiration to write her story and submits it.

Meanwhile, Ryan is offered his opportunity to travel to Australia to photograph the southern lights, but must leave almost immediately. Knowing this is poor timing for their budding relationship, he asks if they can pick up where they left off when he gets back from FULLFILLING A DREAM. Of course Trish will finish her redemption arc and selflessly insist that he go and there will be time for them later, right? NOPE. Instead she explains that having gotten a taste of love, she cannot imagine being with someone who will be traveling as much as Ryan does. This amounts to an ultimatum of "choose between me and your dream". I understand why she would not want to be in that type of relationship, but he had made it clear that he was thinking of settling down already. Completion of Trish's redemption would have been her actually being happy for him finally getting his dream, while explaining that when he returned perhaps they could discuss their future and an end to his nomadic lifestyle.

Ultimately he gives up his dream for a woman who simply did not deserve him. Just as Trish starts to become likeable, she shows how horribly selfish she is, cementing herself as an unlikable character. Never been so unhappy when a couple in a romantic comedy finally get together. Terrible ending.
