She, Who Dared is based on Lois Weber, the first woman to make a feature film and own her own production company in the United States.
Writer/Director Gabrielle Rosson decided to make She, Who Dared after asking actress Katie Killourhy what her dream role was after Katie had an unpleasant experience on a film set. Katie said her dream was to play a woman from history who had changed the narrative and been forgotten, and Gabby knew this was her moment to tell Lois's story.
She, Who Dared features many notables from history including Lois Weber, Phillips Smalley, Charlie Chaplin, Dorothy Arzner, Oscar Michael, Herbert and Alice Guy-Blanché, Mary Pickford, Dal Clawson, J. Frank Glendon, Clair Windsor, George Hackathorne and Jesse L. Lasky.
She, Who Dared is a narrative short drama about a pivotal time in Lois Weber's career and marriage--specifically the year she lost distribution for her controversial film, What Do Men Want, and shortly before her divorce from film partner Phillips Smalley.
She, Who Dared is a collaboration between New England's GR Films and New Path Productions.
