There are a few precious years in everyone's life when we're not quite grown-up, but also aren't a child anymore. When a kid's room is their castle. The backyard their kingdom. And no parents are allowed. This is where we find 13 year old Casey. It's the summer of 1981 in Dallas, Texas. Her parents are divorced and her mom is going on a big trip with a new boyfriend. So Casey is forced to spend the summer at her grandparent's house. Who, by the way, she barely knows and live in a different town. But she does have her trusty jambox and a prized mixtape with her. Just one more song to record off the radio and it's done. So this and riding her skateboard give her solace, because she really doesn't want to be there. So its teen angst versus the real world. And life happens fast. Kids grow up in the blink of an eye when they figure out what really matters. And for Casey that could be a lot of things: Her dysfunctional family, new found friends, or maybe even a beloved mixtape.
