A lovely drama!!! - If you loved Legend of the blue sea this one is for you !!
joanneozboyaci7 January 2024
I really enjoyed this drama. It had the right amount of romance, comedy and a back story. Sometimes in Korean dramas the comedy can be too much or too silly. They got it just right and I had a few laugh out loud moments. The female lead was a really likeable character and the development of how she changed once in modern times was quick but it all flowed. I loved the fashion she wore as it related to the character. The male lead had CEO green flag vibes and he played the character really well. The second lead couple were cute too. This drama definitely gave me Legend of the blue sea vibes so if you enjoyed that drama you will enjoy this. I binge watched all the episodes as didnt start to watch initially on the release date however once caught up I anxioulsy waited for the weekly releases.

Wonderful Fuson of Love, Historical, Modern, Fantasy, Comedy
PalmBeachG7 January 2024
The Story of Park's Marriage Contract is a wonderful drama starring Bae In Hyuk and Lee Se Young with a beautiful balance of Historical (Old Joseon) mixed with Modern Times (New Joseon), Fantasy (time-travel) romance and light comedy.

For those that don't usually watch historical drama's, it will draw you in with it's perfect balance and that says a lot - initially the marriage contract theme caught my attention which adds the love story, romance and light comedy in modern society. I did get drawn in right away with the historical episodes with the wonderful early love story, the beauty of the FL and the costuming and sets which always catches my attention. The male lead Bae In Hyuk who plays Kang Tae Ha is just as captivating with his acting and handsomeness.

In the modern Joseon I loved the costuming again and how the Old Joseon style was fused with New Joseon and particularly loved Kang Tae Ha's embroidered shirt which was a turning point for the 2 main leads and their "butterflies".

The reason I gave it 9 stars instead of 10 is that quite honestly, I had no idea how many episodes there was going to be - had no idea if it were 16 episodes or what. When I watched episode 12 I actually didn't know it was the final until about halfway through it when I started to think - wait, what? Is this the final? I shouldn't have to guess that and it actually didn't become 100% clear until the last moments to me. I think the ending could have been better but still well worth watching.

Amazing plot and actors
fanleese27 November 2023
There are only two episodes, but I'm already hooked. It's a great production, with great cast and an interesting plot. The story can feels like something we've seen before, but here's the twist: she travels back in time after someone tries to kill her, just after the mysterious death of her husband on their honeymoon. The merging of the two worlds is very well executed in this drama. The acting is phenomenal and the chemistry very good. The female lead is a funny, strong and interesting character. Once again, Lee Se Young proves her versatility and plays to perfection. I recommend this series without hesitation!

The first episode was a dream, the rest is more like a nightmare... Wasted potential
hanalisss6 January 2024
This had such amazing start, episode one was one of the best episodes I have ever watched, the storytelling was so captivating and what an emotional story, I actually cried. So believe me when I say I was really looking forward to the rest of the series, but what a let down.

The rest of episodes were just a bunch of empty filling scenes with overdramatic characters and underwhelming subplots.

Majority if the cast in this are very experienced and tge acting is superb, but the script is just too silly and nonsensical.

I give it a 6 mainly because the actual main plot and storyline of their past life was extremely good and interesting but they could have done it in just 4/6 episodes. The modern storyline was just dragging and lacking an actual plot.

I guess you will love this if you are into telenovelas and enjoy very extreme and dramatic plots.

Typical kdrama, filled with cliches
unrivaledraj2 April 2024
I started watching it due to actress playing FL, I have seen her in a couple of shows before and she does a decent job. And here as well she was the only good thing about the show, she is also central character around her the entire plot revolves, other characters including ML had nothing much to do, character or story wise.

Entire drama is 90% filled with kdrama tropes, if you are an avid kdrama fan, you can pretty much predict the next scene and the dialogues and how everything is gonna unfold. Except that grandpa part, which was a little twist I didn't expect so that made me give an extra rating as 5/10, otherwise this is 4/10 at most, ost and bgm is decent, matches the tone of the show, also the periodic part of the show wasn't boring, which usually is the case in such dramas.

ML was your very typical character in a kdrama, childhood trauma, is rude and cold for no reason, then falls for FL but denies and hides his emotions like a manchild, and then completely changes his behaviour. Completely cliched.

Other characters are the same, best friend/servant to the FL, BF/secretary to the ML, then a girl in office who pines for ML, evil stepmom, bratty/flirty younger bro to ML who'll flirt with his brother's wife/gf, a grandpa bullying his grandson to marry etc etc. Pretty much everything is cliched to the core.

If this is gonna be your first kdrama, or you are very new to the kdrama world, only then watch it. Otherwise not recommended.

The Story of Park's Marriage Contract (2023)
thecinephilereviews15 February 2024
Based on the web-comic of the same name written by Angelique and Kim Neo-ul. Park Yeon-woo (Lee Se-young) is a rebellious noblewoman living in the Confucian Joseon era whom is arranged to wed Kang Tae-ha (Bae In-hyuk). When she is kidnapped and thrown into a well following his death, Park Yeon-woo discovers that she has transported 200 years in time to where she comes across an identical version of her deceased husband. Park Yeon-woo heeds this second chance to rekindle a relationship with the man she loves and adapts to this modern setting. While uncovering the mystery as to why she was sent to this time-period.

The series has made a home in my heart due to the all of the astonishing performances from the cast members. Lee Se-young was the perfect choice for the female lead. Deserving all of the recognition as she seamlessly portrays a fish-out-of-water who utilizes all her skills towards making an impact on those around her. Especially on the cold-and-calculated amalgamation of Kang Tae-ha (Bae In-hyuk) who she shares noteworthy onscreen chemistry with.

This drama was truly an enjoyable experience. Containing likable characters whom the viewer becomes invested in as we root for them to have the happy endings they deserve. Twists-and-turns catch the viewer by surprise when we believe we have everything figured out. Whilst certain plot-holes and plot-points remain unresolved and left to the interpretation of the audience. The script could have been more polished. But the ambiguity is welcomed as it fits within the storyline. The finale concludes on an emotional note which leaves a lasting imprint on the viewer. I would love to see a continuation for these characters that we have grown attached to because it's difficult to say goodbye. I believe this season is deserving of a rewatch as I'll revisit Yeon-woo's unforgettable journey towards self-fulfillment.

Trickster guy
alaningle77 January 2024
The beautiful Lee Se-young plays Park Yeon-woo a Joseon lady whose new husband is murdered and then she is kidnapped and thrown down a well. She finds herself 200 years later in a swimming pool and is saved by Kang Tae-ha (Bae In-hyuk) who because of a heart condition like her original husband has no interest in marriage. It is an interesting idea with a contract marriage. But the plot is never very deep like the characters so the story can be plodding at times. What saves the story is the chemistry between the two leads which makes a believable and sweet romance. The supporting cast all do a good job as well so enjoyable series but just falls short.

My new favourite!
priyashashank798 January 2024
What a beautiful, swoon worthy story. The lead actors were both super good looking and their chemistry was amazing right from the 1st episode. I liked them both in modern roles as well as the historical roles, a special mention to the very cute dimples of the ML that made him extra handsome. The second leads were amazing too, there were too many good looking people in the show, and some known character artists and everyone played their characters well. Time travel and reincarnation shows are my weakness and this show had elements of both making it well worth the screen time. In all, it was a very watchable, likeable series which will remain close to my heart.

Good Enough
PennyReviews12 February 2024
Korean Drama '' The Story of Park's Marriage Contract '' is a fantasy, time travel romantic comedy.

The drama has a great start, with an interesting female lead who is delightful to watch. It also has a fun story, with enough light and fluffy moments to keep things entertaining. The comedy part was great as well. And even though there were some cheesy moments and overused tropes, they were nicely embedded in the story and they didn't feel too cliche.

The second half of the drama was, on the other hand, rather boring. The ending was well handled, sure, but they added too much unnecessary drama just to keep things emotional. That is why the conclusion was rushed.

The performances, finally, were all enjoyable.

So, overall, seven out of ten.

The most generic, nonsensical k-drama
evendir-308-3866642 February 2024
So, I've watched a lot of k-dramas. Over 80, at my last count. And I can confidently say this is the lamest, most nonsense k-drama I've ever tried to watch. I say tried because, despite really wanting to soldier through it, I gave up during episode 9. I just couldn't take any more.

All it's ever trying to do is tick every single standard k-drama box, which it certainly does quite admirably, while completely disregarding all logic or any sense of natural progression in the process. It by and large ignore its central conceit, with the main characters largely adapting to modern life better than my grandparents. Even time travel aside, nothing about the plot makes even the slightest bit of sense under the most basic examination. The corporate intrigue? Ridiculous. The family dynamics? Insane.

I just... honestly can't even. I mean, I watched slightly over half of it because it is entirely inoffensive, but despite being a seasoned k-drama fan with an appropriately high level of willingness to withstand epic levels of nonsense, this was just too much.

Just pure love

Warning: Spoilers
One of my favorite Dramas of 2023. There's so many greats in this that you are not bored at all.

Actors * * * * * Action * * * * * Intrigue * * * * * Villains * * * * * * Romance * * * * * ( especially sweet) Sidekicks * * * * * (her maid and his assistant are just sublime)

What would you do if the man you had just married dies in your arms on your wedding night? Would you live out the rest of your life or would you become a righteous woman and follow your bridegroom?

In 19th-century Korea, a woman that follows her bridegroom or husband after his death becomes a righteous woman and her familly given the tittle. Many women parrished at the hands of others and not their own,

Park Yeon Woo (Lee Se Young) was one of those women, but instead of faslling to her doom she came through a portal, traveling through time (200 years later) and coming out splishing and splashing in a swimming pool.

Luckily for her Kang Tae Ha (Bae In Hyuk), the spitting image of her dearest husband, is there to safe her life.

It's a tale of old meeting new and the love of a woman for a man. Will their love stand the test of time and all it's complications?

Story 10 Acting/Cast 10 Music 8.5 Rewatch Value 9.0 review k-drama

I really enjoyed the k-drama, it has a bit of that CEO plot and the 'damsel in distress', and I like that, besides the incredible chemistry between the lead characters, and the story is not boring, it's a well-written script, a script where the plot twists make sense, that's what made the drama good, I like all the characters, especially her 'sister' and the secretary, anyway I loved the drama from beginning to end, and I truly hope that someone waits for me for a year just like they did waiting to meet each other again. I loved this drama and I am sure you'll also love it.

Enjoyable
Infycd_14 January 2024
One time watchable. Really enjoyed all the episodes except last one. I'm expecting something different, I thought It will going to be a sad ending thankfully last 5 min they changed the story and made in to happy ending. They should have made some different in last episode. I don't know I really don't like it. And one funny thing is she is 19th century girl adopting new culture is very difficult but here they didn't shown much struggle like female lead wearing all modern clothes. And she is ok with new things. Anyways this is just a fantasy series will watch it like it. And all actors were too good liked all of them.

A Must Watch Drama
lilaiqha19 January 2024
It opens with a very refreshing first episode, and every episode we get more curious about their story. The story of Park Yeon-woo's beautiful fantasy drama about Park Yeon-woo's love struggle in saving her husband and pursuing her dreams that were hindered by the norms of Joseon and discovering adventures in the modern era. Lee Se Young, Bae Inhyuk, Joo Hyun Young, & Jo Bok Rae I really enjoyed your wonderful acting.

Seyoung & Inhyuk are well suited to play the Saeguk era drama because of their beautiful accent and voice.

And as we know Hyun Young is very good at playing comedic roles, and her chemistry with Jo Bok Rae is also impressive.

A romcom drama that we can enjoy without getting bored.

If only the drama were 16 episodes, it would have been a lot of fun.

Super cliche and unoriginal plot, yet somewhat enjoyable
aihaibara-5279016 February 2024
I have a little mixed feelings when it comes to this show. The first half was fun, but the second half was equally frustrating to watch.

First half is more about character and romance development between the leads, featuring some super cheesy moments. But it's fun if you're into that stuff!

What I didn't like though was how over dramatic and ridiculous the plot turns out to be towards the end. Unnecessarily making good characters turn evil, and people going out of the way to do unimaginably stupid things - not fun at all. It's seemed like no hard work was put into the drama by their team. Also what's up with the ghost like second ML? And having a crush on sister in law seriously? Second leads also had no chemistry at all. There are some logical flaws as you watch the entire show. Some things didn't add up. But okay wasn't really expecting much anyways.

P. S. The joseon driven fashion in the show was really nice nonetheless!

Almost a perfect marriage
danigerch17 January 2024
MBC will forever be to me the channel that doesn't do things halfway. They either have awful dramas or really good stories, I am glad to say The Story of Park's Marriage Contract is the latter. Another good example of why 12 episodes long dramas are sometimes better, no time to waste and unnecessary conflicts.

Lee Se Young and Bae In Hyuk gave great chemistry. They delivered solid performances and nuance characters. There is no perfect relationship but the leads of this drama come very close through proper communication, team work and love. Particularly when you take into account there's time traveling and corporate spies trying to take them down.

Joo Hyun Young, Jo Bok Rae and Oh Yu Jin are scene stealers. Every single interaction between each other or the leads is gold comedy with the added attribute that they are actually super cool characters that have full lives, apart from the main story. So, it's interesting to see well developed secondary characters. Same goes for the rest of the cast.

The story per se it's really fun and the mystery well done. Every week, I wanted to a new clue to resolve what was happening but also find out what new adventure leading lady was going to have. Her charm and openness to the world was invigorating. Definitely one of the best characters of 2024.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable story and I recommend it.

Love is soul and timeless
sorayagiatto25 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
For me she supposed to be loyal to her first love, I mean, the first soul, the guy from the past was the first one. Sincerely, it was cruel she decided not give her love (kiss the boy, hug him...whatelse to demostrated that he was loved). He died without her love. So sad. I got in doubt If I was watching an american sitcom. Well, for me there is no sense. She should love both guys. Different times but still the same soul. And in the end, if she had said to Kang (present) that was his prayers that made her destiny, ok (less worse), but missing her... no. Even in this regard, Kang from the past wins, after all, the guy had missed her for a long time and much earlier (God! He painted a new portrait of her every time that he missed her). Poor guy from the past.
