The construction of the amphitheater in a former Chicano neighborhood, is reminiscent of a poignant event in Los Angeles History. On May 8, 1959 the land in the Los Angeles district of Chavez Ravine was condemned, and the Mexican-American community was evicted to make way for Dodger Stadium.
