WACKY! ODD! WEIRD!

Warning: Spoilers
The plot is wacky and confusing. Nothing makes sense. A weird spaceship causes two cities to be transported 10,000 years into the future and a guy named Tanbara Gai is tasked with traveling to the future and uncovering what happened to one of the cities. Futuristic, right?

Wrong.

The transported city of Kanto is now a barren wasteland ruled by a creepy bald guy named Pilar. Pilar has slaves.

Gai meets the other main character, Emiya, who wants to kill Pilar as a result of him trying to marry her against her will. Various shenanigans happen that result in Gai and Emiya being separated and trying to regroup to stop the reign of Pilar.

Emiya learns swordsmanship from a random old man who turns out to be HER DAD? Oh, and her real name is Prime Rose. She's the true Queen of the land apparently. The whole sequence happens so abruptly and isn't explained further. She also ate the tongue of a dragon and now she can turn her skin to stone. Fascinating!

Gai and Prime Rose use their combined efforts to bring a stop to Pilar, but there's a new villain on the horizon! Sigma-99, a sentient AI that controlled the spaceship from the beginning, has been orchestrating everything and pushing humans to devolve and kill each other because it enjoys war and violence. It's a very strange plot and I struggled to make sense of things.

There are SO MANY details and sequences from this movie that are random, hilarious, confusing, violent, and sexual (Prime Rose has full nudity scenes). It feels extremely rushed and poorly planned, but it resulted in many laughs and smiles from the absurdity. Is it a good movie? No. Is it fun? Hell yes!

I went into this movie expecting science-fiction, and received ancient history references, panty shots, forced romance, barren deserts, confusing plot points, and only a BIT of science-fiction at the beginning and end.

40 year old befuddled anime.

Whenever a sci-fi story builds a world in which the story takes place, the viewer expects that world to remain relatively consistent. This is not what happens in "Prime Rose" aka "A Time Slip of 10,000 years: Prime Rose." It'll make you wonder things like "Where did those giant cockroaches come from?" and "Why in the heck is he leaving?" There are plenty of things in this anime movie that don't make sense. On the other hand, the bad guy is interesting. It's a demon who's sole purpose is to get the only two groups in the world to war with each other but he only shows up halfway into the film.

The animated illustrations are typical for that time period. Despite its faults and plot holes, Prime Rose is an OK time-killer. Not every film has to be a classic.
