The hunt for Raoul Moat is a difficult watch as the events are relatively recent. His actions in the summer of 2010 destroyed other people's lives and yet to a deluded few, he was seen as a hero.

The first episode begins a year the events. People lay flowers for Moat and say how much they admired him.

Raoul Moat was a steroid fueled knucklehead who went to prison for hitting his daughter. As his ex girlfriend Samantha tried to move on with her life. Moat was having none of it.

When he is released from prison, he hopes to get back with Samantha and his daughter. He tells her that he will change. Only Samantha has found a new man. Christopher Brown, a karate instructor.

The prison officers are alarmed at the threats he has made to Samantha. They report it to the police who do nothing. Soon Moat shoots dead Samantha's new boyfriend and he shoots her as well, but she survives the attack.

Moat then threatens to shoot some coppers who have made his life a misery. He thinks the police have always picked on him.

The drama certainly does not paint Moat as a hero. Rather it sides with his victims. The first episode so far is not too critical about the police.

An impressive start.

After a six year relationship with Raoul Moat, Samantha Stobbart has moved on, and met someone else, he hasn't, and when he's released from Prison, he wants to rekindle their dead relationship.

This really was an impressive first episode, this was story that was all over the news, everyone learned exactly who Raoul Moat was, this introduced the characters and set the scene very well.

The big scene, when the attack happens, is a hugely shocking moment, it's a scene where you'd genuinely stop what you were doing.

Shocking events, it is a real tragedy, I'm not to sure about the legal side of things, or how accurate this was, it's of course worth remembering that this was a dramatisation, but boy there were some major failings in the legal system.

How on Earth was he allowed anywhere near her, it's appalling to think that he was able to do what he did.

Sally Messham and Matt Stokoe were both particularly good I thought as Samantha and Raoul, he really did cut a menacing figure.

This was a gripping start, 9/10.
