Weakest ever Ghosts episode?
dsahukfsa17 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Alison and Mike are struggling financially and Mike is particularly anxious about the cost of having a child. Thomas tries to write a poem in one day for a poetry competition, and finds unexpected inspiration from Fanny. After hearing Alison's pregnancy symptoms, Kitty decides that she, too, must be pregnant. Finally, Pat and Julian engage in an argument about which is better - North or South.

This was a disappointment for me after the hilarious opener of season 5. It felt like this was a filler episode before we start to get to the eagerly awaited back story episodes which will come later in the season.

Pat and Julian's storyline just wasn't very funny, except on a meta level due to Jim being from the South and Simon being from the North in real life. It just turned into them listing off things without any real jokes. Kitty and Thomas did raise a few laughs- especially the revelation that Thomas is Scottish(!) How could the ghosts not be aware of something so basic despite knowing him for so many years?!

It felt like this was more of a poignant episode on the theme of Home, so it went for a touching payoff rather than a comic one, but it didn't have the same emotional impact as some of the previous Ghosts episodes.

Cracking second episode.
Sleepin_Dragon4 February 2024
Mike is terrified by the thought of parenthood, he stresses over every detail, even has nightmares about it. Thomas is desperate to write a successful poem, and to have it published. An argument ensues about north and south, and there's a phantom pregnancy.

I quite enjoyed the first episode, I really enjoyed this second one, I thought this was really funny, some really amusing moments, with Mike central to a lot of them.

This was rather moving, that speech about home was actually quite moving, I just love Fanny, and will never ever get bored of Fanny's one liners.

I was creased at the way Thomas was using Fanny's words, he really is a word vampire, he was so funny here. Julian and Pat's squabble over North and South was so funny.

Did someone go a little bit JS??? Now then, now then? The Captain could have chosen his words a little more wisely.

8/10.

Warning: Spoilers
It looks like we are getting the final storyline of the show with them considering selling off the property. I am not sure how it will end, they obviously will stay, but maybe there will be a twist of some kind.

There were still some laughs here, but overall, a bit of a step back in quality from what we are used to from this show. I did not find the North and South arguments very funny, but maybe as an American that is because I am not as familiar with that dynamic as people who live in The UK.

The Charles Worthing character was good in his very small appearance in tonight's episode though, so there's that.
