The Horrible Life of Dr. Ghoul (2013)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
TV horror host Dr. Ghoul (Chris Doubek) rips his cape walking away from a bar and this here sets off a very bad day. Writer-director Don Swaynos does an extremely good job with this seven minute short that I had never heard of before running across it on Fandor. The great thing about all these streaming sites is that so many smaller movies can be discovered and that's never a had thing.
This B&W film features some terrific cinematography, great performances and there's just no question that people familiar with what a horror host is are going to really enjoy this. Not only does the film work as a nice little homage to horror hosts it also works perfectly as a dark comedy. I'm not going to spoil the various bad things that happen to Dr. Ghoul but they're quite funny and certainly have a true feeling to them. Doubek is very good in the title role as are the supporting players.
Fans of horror movies will certainly want to give this one a try.
