Zombie genre: acting class tedium: BUT ideal double bill to Schwarzeneggar's 'Maggie'!
Bofsensai17 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Even for the zombie fan completest, WARNING: this is mostly just an acting class watch, as more or less completely carried by main 'star' Shameer Madrabrakus*, and latterly, by being joined by a Jessica Messenger also then injecting her side of the acting practice bit, too, as to be his reason to keep on, love interest.

Since as a film, and a 'zombie' one at that, this is just tedious, as director / scriptwriter not only has used virtually just one location (a marginally interesting when in outside shot, sorta shack) but then more or less only develops the story through Shameer (as a Scott) merely chatting to a never seen other over an intercom system (he's an electrician and briefly shown dabbling with it to paste over the plot hole of how any equipment still functions in a, ah, well, 'wasteland', see...).

Possible fun just might marginally be had from persevering to the end to see the selected extras do their zombie 'acting' - (the elder plump chap amused me, lumbering aimlessly about in the melee, front and rear shots provided by director Wadlow) - afore his version of the standard zombie siege and hands break into the refuge trope: and Rachel Benson playing 'Lolli', a supposedly a violin playing sixteen - (she looks well into her twenties!) - year old with a possibly deliberately creepy relationship inference from companion 'Max' (Mark Drake) is .. well; creepy, indeed!

But the REAL reason I'm introducing you so to what would otherwise be more or less (yup: again!) totally pointless to invest your time to watch, is that actually, this will make a pretty decent bottom half of double bill companion piece to recent Arnie Schwarzeneggar effort in 'Maggie' - (director Henry Hobson / writer, a J. Scott): so much so that to the latter, I wouldn't be in the least surprised if scriptwriter Wadlow felt as though he should take out a law suit for pure plagiarism!

* As billed in this: latterly has become 'Seepersand'.

In the end, Isolation is the least of your worries... Zombie drama on a budget.
John-Von-Shelton25 March 2015
Wasteland is a post-apocalypse indie drama - soon to be released by Acort International. The central hero is Scott, who meets the love of his life, Beth in flash backs as he deals with the un-dead and loneliness. After some time, the two lead characters meet back up and then survival really starts.

With the rise of shows like The Walking Dead (2010 - present), zombie fans might want to check out this local horror/survival film shot in Derby, England. After watching the special features, it was interesting to see the break down of map shots and digital pallets to create a post- apocalypse world on a budget. I think that's what I appreciated most as well as the practical gore and zombie effects.

The film stars Shameer Seepersand, Jessica Messenger, Mark Drake (who appeared in Game of Thrones) and Rachel Benson.

Director, Tom Wadlow started of with shorts before shooting the feature and he had trained at Universal Studios and now runs Light Films, Ltd. with his wife.

Wasteland is written by local talent, Tommy Draper and Chris Newman helped edit and was Cinematographer. Music by Dave S Walker.

Wasteland is a Waste of Time!
jn10127 August 2015
After zombie Armageddon starts in Britain Scott and the love of his life; girlfriend Beth head out to the remote countryside where they hole up in a shack hoping to escape the worst of it. Worried about her London based family Beth leaves on a mission to find out if they are OK. Holding on to hope that Beth will one day return Scott remains at the shack, his only contact with the outside world being a short range radio with which once a day he communicates with a fellow survivor. As long as there is a chance his love will return he will not leave the shack.

overall the movie is boring, not interesting, tedious, dull, monotonous, repetitive, if you really want to watch this, watch the last 2 minutes of the movie, the best part lol

MANKIND IS GOING BACK TO THE WAY OF THE 8-TRACK
nogodnomasters25 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is an odd oriental western post apocalyptic grindhouse with a decent soundtrack. The American west (maybe more) has been devastated from some unnamed tragedy that has contaminated the land and created mutants. Most of the people are attempting to go to a government train so they can be taken back east where everything is fresh and clean.

There is a "religious" group of hombres who want to cleanse the land through rape, pillage, plunder, and a bit of cannibalism, all for the greater good. In the opening scene, they rape and kill a woman, kidnap the son and shoot the husband multiple times...but he didn't die. 17 years later he (Garret Sato as Keo) is alive and seeking this group for revenge and he wants to get his son back, although we have been told he was eaten...and was very tasty. The movie sometimes has a comedy tone to it as demonstrated by a man in the desert complaining his 60 Lou Rawls albums being stolen by hombres. The human mutants travel underground like the sand-worms in "Dune."

One of the members of the church, Charm (Erin Laurence) is a Sherie Moon Zombie type who delights in bad things and prays during the first rape. She is perfect for a grindhouse and is clearly under utilized.

Although it is 17 years later, no one looks older. The movie has some really horrible, downright campy acting and dialouge which actually made the film more enjoyable. It boasts 5 pretty oriental women showing off their legs. Derrel Maury (Mario from "Joanie Loves Chachi") is Caine who leads the religious cult group.

F-bombs, rape, no nudity, minor blood and gore. A movie clearly not for everyone.

Not so much horror, thriller, or a survivalist film....more of a human story about finding lost love.
spiritchaser-2647731 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
For a zombie movie, it's worth a watch...However there aren't any huge fights, zombie hoard attacks, etc. None of the zombies particularly fill your mind with fear.... It plays more on an emotional level of trying to hold on to the things that make us human. I was a little bummed that apparently he survives with a razor, canned beans, a potato sack for a shirt, some matches, wine, a terribly cumbersome backpack, water that magically appears in cut up water bottles..(Okay you might get a few drops that way, but let's get real) he also has a gun, a seemingly endless supply of matches and at least 5 candles lit every night, as well as a cabin in the woods with a ham radio......a place we know those supplies just fall into people's laps....And let's go ahead and say it, that cabin wouldn't last up to an attack with a small hatchet....otherwise The main thing was the acting. The main characters are all acted well....the supporting cast need some tips, however they were used mainly in cutaway scenes in reflections of the past, no real need for much of it, and much of it wasn't done....but hey, all in all...worth a watch...some of the personal drama and the love story was well done.

Not your typically ordinary zombie movie but good nonetheless
andreashager2 March 2016
OK i wanna begin by saying that i have seen a great deal of movies and one thing i have been thinking about is that there are a lot of movies that has a lot more money invested in them than this movie the wasteland. The more money invested in a movie does not in any way make the movie better most of the time. Now to my personal review of this movie. This is not your typically high end zombie movie with a lot of zombies and action. this movie is little slower than your average zombie flick but its still a good movie. From the beginning i wanted to continue to look and thats all i need. The movie has a pretty good story and i think the actors is doing a good job. T he music score is well done in my opinion. i would recommend this movie and i have seen a lot of movies and its nice with a movie that is little different from everything out there.

Pretty good for a low budget zombie movie
Joejoesan13 March 2021
Of course this ain't World War Z when it comes to special effects, locations and highly paid movie stars, but this low budget film actually ain't bad. It's at least convincing in making us believe in a post-apocalyptic world. I liked the atmosphere of the abandoned streets and houses. The acting isn't that great, but the main lead is charming enough to get us through the story. And you can see that the film was made with lots of love of the zombie genre. I think some people are too hard on productions like these. You can't compare them to The Walking Dead, Army of the Dead or even Shaun of the Dead. It was a good attempt at making an entertaining movie and I think the makers succeeded 6/10

A simple story, some good action and the male lead is very good
katerice-3267314 March 2023
Sameer Seepersand gave a great performance, but Jessica Messenger was wooden and stilted. Their love story didn't really work and I was disappointed when she returned to him - Scott was a believable character and his angst and heartache was excellent to watch. I also enjoyed the action and thought it was performed well.

I think the film showed the selfishness of people even in an apocalyptic setting in a believable way, and the most satisfactory relationship in the whole movie was the friendship between Scott Miller and his CB buddy George - true camaraderie between two men in a similar situation who had never met.
