One of the better YouTube movie reaction channels
jonsefcik30 January 2021
3 and a half years ago Emer Prevost passed away from surgery complications. It's a shame since movie reaction channels have skyrocketed in popularity lately. Unfortunately many of these channels feel disingenuous to me; everyone only says nice things, has no real criticisms, and seem so easily emotionally manipulated, like its the first movie they've ever seen.

What I appreciate about Emer is that he's never afraid to say if something sucks. Something simultaneously interesting and frustrating about him is his unpredictable tastes. I've correctly predicted his reaction less often than not; a lot of the time he'll hate something I thought he'd love, or love something I thought he'd hate. This builds anticipation for the next review, as I'd be genuinely interested in his first time reaction. Will he love it or hate it or something inbetween?

The only aspect of his film analysis I don't agree with is he places way too much emphasis on the story. I get the script is the foundation on which you build your movie and its arguably the most important part, but how those ideas are presented can be just as important. However, if he thinks the premise or script is dumb, it tarnishes his opinions on everything else.

If you're reading this and have a movie reaction channel, please take a few notes from Emer. Don't think every single film you see is amazing just because it's something popular and fun. Dont be afraid to go against the grain if you have a differing opinion. Don't make the majority of your video just clips of the movie playing out with you sitting there doing nothing. Make every frame count, like the movies you're reacting to.

Great Underrated Internet show R.I.P. Emer

Emer Prevost A.K.A. Hellsing920 was Internet Critic who would reacted and review movies on his show Reaction & Review which he started on February 8th, 2011 when he reviewed the Channel Awesome Movie Kickassia & hated it and the rest is history. I first got into Emer Prevost's Reaction & Review in April 2016 & I really liked this series. My Favorite Review of his is his review on 2010 Comedy "The 41 Year Old Virgin Who Knocked up Sarah Marshall & Felt Super Bad about It" Anyway Reaction & Review was a great series and R.I.P. Emer Prevost

Excellent!

Warning: Spoilers
Reaction and Review is one of the best internet shows ever created. Emer Prevost is a very talented show host. What is great about his reviews is that his taste is very unpredictable, you almost never know if he will enjoy a film or not. That is one of the many things that makes his show work. He is also very funny in his reviews, it is also very entertaining to see him suffer through terrible films, and you feel sorry for him at the same time. I consider his show to be the new Mystery Science Theater 3000, which he ironically is a fan of. I remember first seeing emer on expotv about 5 years ago, and seeing him on youtube around the same time with his fanboy chronicles and epic rants. Although I do not always agree with him, there is one thing for sure, he is never boring.

Show, don't tell...
bespin007918 September 2014
Emerson Prevost was a prominent YouTube ranter in the latter part of the 2000's called Hellsing920. Later on, he attempts to do a review show and called it "Reaction and Review".

It's pretty much the anti-MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000. Here's the thing: in MST3K the audience was able to watch an awful movie with the crew of the Satellite of Love while their heckling made watching it easier. In "Reaction and Review", however, Prevost watches a movie that the viewer can't even see (he claims that this is done to avoid copyright problems and to show that his reactions are authentic) while making really short statements about what he saw ("That was cool", "That sucked", etc.). After that, he gives a quick review peppered with padding and stammering.

It's easy to figure out what films Prevost will like and hate. If it's an obscure, Z-grade flick there's a 50-50 chance of him approving it or disliking it; if the movie is popular or well- received, it gets panned or just called okay (at best); if the movie is hated by critics or audiences, he'll call it great. He actually approved CATWOMAN and DRAGON BALL: EVOLUTION, for instance.

I won't recommend it.

He was kinda a douche in some episodes
Nick1Buns9 April 2022
Only giving him an extra star because he died. Rest in Peace.

I know people should have their own opinions and such, and you need to respect them, but... I didn't really like some of the episodes that he made. Not because of his opinion or anything, it's just because he kinda insults some movies in some of his episodes. Even the movies that are bad but at least try to be good get insulted. He doesn't really even give that much constructive criticism in the episodes.
