Zareen Khan recalls being rejected from a film for looking the way she does. The Bollywood actress says she was bluntly told about the industry perception that pretty girls cannot act.
"It's not just me who has been typecast. I feel every person in this industry gets typecast. When I came out with 'Veer' I was typecast as pretty girl, a girl next door -- just comparisons and everything. So, I did not get enough chances. (Actually) Did not get a chance at all after that. (I was called) Fat, and this and that," revealed Zareen Khan.
She says her dance number "Character dheela" in the Salman Khan-starrer "Ready" somewhat helped in changing perceptions. "People were like, 'she can look like that also. She has lost weight, nice'. Then came 'Hate Story' and people said she is so hot," she recalled.
Still, Zareen was rejected...

Mumbai, Oct 24 (Ians) Actor Gulshan Devaiah feels recent controversies, related to allegations of Bollywood-drug trade nexus as well as nepotism charges, which have been surrounding the film fraternity, do not bother him.
"Without taking names, I want to say that the controversies and generalisation that have defamed our film industry in the recent past do not bother me. What bothers me is the people who are raising their voice with a huge amount of insincerity. If you know that you are an influential voice of the film industry, will you not check your own words before uttering them? That is why I have difficulty trusting them. The audience that is observing the toxicity, should sit back and try to understand who is benefitting from these controversies? As an audience, are you?" said the actor.
Gulshan has managed to make his mark in the entertainment industry across mediums.

Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri says it takes a lot of courage to speak up against the powerful people of the film industry.
Agnihotri opened up on the subject when he expressed his opinion on 34 Bollywood production houses and four film associations filing a civit suit in Delhi High Court against certain news channels for allegedly defaming the industry.
"Can the public sue Bollywood for destroying music, lyrics, language, art, creativity, social fabric and culture of India?" Vivek tweeted.
After the post, a Twitter user reminded him that he made "Hate Story", saying: "Why was ‘Hate Story' a hit? Because you made it or because people watched it? And by your own admission, the success of ‘Hate Story' brought in producers for you to make movies you believed in."

Vikram Bhatt’s on a roll. Even as his upcoming Raaz Reboot is set to hit theatres soon, the filmmaker has turned producer with his next – 1921. The film is not a follow-up to his earlier hit franchise 1920, and instead is an upgraded 2.0 version and the fifth franchise after Raaz, 1920, Haunted and Hate Story. It is in fact, a record of sorts for any filmmaker to have so many hit franchisees to his credit.
The film will be under Vikram’s own banner ‘Loneranger Productions’ in collaboration with Reliance Entertainment, as he shares, “For too long I have created franchises for other producers and directors. Even when I was with Asa Productions I was only the creative director and made films for the company. ‘1921’ will be my film in every way.” Vikram points out that though he has made 32 films in 25 years as a director, he does not own a single negative which he can leave as his legacy to his daughter, Krishna and with this film he is set to change that.
Talking about kickstarting the new franchisee, Vikram adds, “The idea behind ‘1920’ was to bring horror into a period drama redolent with the romance of the times. But with the next parts, the direction changed and the series became more about horror. ‘1921’, while more terrifying, will also be more emotional.” The film revolves around students of music and is set in a university town.
“We’ve already signed Zareen Khan who brought in a certain amount of dignity to ‘Hate Story 3’. We could shoot the film in Vienna or Yorkshire, or even somewhere in Italy or Scotland. It will go on the floors in November. With ‘1921’ I will begin a new chapter in my 33-year career,” adds Vikram.
Ask Vikram on how he came about the name of his production house and he credits it to his mentor-filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt. Vikram reveals that around four years ago, when he was working on ‘Raaz 3’, Bhatt had presented him with a picture of a peacock flying in a parched desert, pointing out that he was a lone ranger like this bird as he did everything himself, from writing his films to editing and shooting them. “So that’s how I decided to name my banner, Loneranger Productions.”

Both of them made their first Bollywood impression by featuring in a 'kahaani' that had vendetta as its theme. Paoli Dam was the face of Hate Story, an erotic thriller. Parambrata Chatterjee was a strong supporting arm for Vidya Balan in Kahaani, a dramatic thriller. Now they are coming together for a love story, which is interestingly titled Yaara Silly Silly. "The film has been in the making for a while though," informs our source, "It was announced two years back when both Paoli and Parambrata were in news for their respective films. The film's shooting was spread out though and then suddenly there was no news around it. Now it is being readied for release." Interestingly, Paoli and Parambrata crossed path again in another Hindi film Gang of Ghosts where former was roped in for an item number and latter was one of the key protagonists. However after that,...

The very moment when the news came out about Sharman Joshi doing Hate Story 3, it raised many eyebrows. Sharman Joshi, on his part, had even gone on record to say that 'if need be, he would flash his bare butt on screen'. But, the latest development is that, before the film could go on floors, the actor has opted out of the film. Speaking about the same, Sharman Joshi reasoned his 'exit' citing date problems, as the said film's schedule was clashing with two of his other films. On the other hand, Hate Story 3's director Vishal Pandya said that it was a mutual decision. He added that, after the final script, they realized that Sharman did not fit the role that was offered to him. Now, they have replaced Sharman Joshi with Gurmeet Choudhary, who made his Bollywood debut earlier this year with Khamoshiyan. Watch this space for developments.

This one is going to be a week of comedies for Bollywood. Dilliwaalli Zaalim Girlfriend and Hunterr arrive together, and both are youth centric affairs. Let’s talk about Dilliwaalli Zaalim Girlfriend first. The film has seen some good visibility coming its way, courtesy the songs that have fetched attention during the last few weeks. Moreover, it has Divyendu Singh and Pradhuman Singh promising good humor, something that they have demonstrated well before in films like Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Chashme Baddoor and Tere Bin Laden. Since the film promises to present the quirky side of Delhi, one expects some good fun here.
On the other hand Hunterr has adult content at its core. Gulshan Devaiah, who has shown good range in films like Shaitaan, Ram Leela and Hate Story, leads the show with Radhika Apte (Badlapur) bringing on the spunk. Since Anurag Kashyap’s name is attached to the film,...

Nikhil Dwivedi will be making his comeback with Suryaveer Singh Bhullar’s Tamanchey releasing October 10th.
The actor who was last seen in ‘Hate Story’ in 2012, is now playing the lead opposite Richa Chadda. The couple play criminals, on the run from the law with several twists and turns- A bad boy falls in love with a bad girl.
Even though the movie releases tomorrow, several critics and members of the industry, who attended an early screening had great things to say about Nikhil’s performance.
“Nikhil in fact delivers a heartbreaking performance as a simpleton who flips for the siren and is willing to go to any lengths to get her. At times his baba-in-the-woods act reminded one of Raj Kapoor in Sri 420. Here is an actor, who has repeatedly proved himself to be better than many so-called stars in Bollywood. Wonder what keeps him from getting there,” said critic Subhash K Jha.

Three notable films release this weekend – Hate Story 2, Amit Sahni Ki List and Pizza. Each of these three films is a mid-budget affair and doesn’t have stars hogging the limelight. While Hate Story 2 is as commercial a film as it gets, Amit Sahni Ki List and Pizza are concept films with a different storyline to offer. Also, Hate Story 2 is a part of the Hate Story franchise that was conceptualized by Vikram Bhatt and had resulted in a Paoli Dam success story directed by Vivek Agnihotri. On the other hand Pizza is the namesake remake of a Tamil horror flick with an urban set up to it. Between the three films, Hate Story 2 would get the biggest release as it has a solid backing of T-Series. The songs have been well promoted which has ensured some good visibility too. Moreover, ample skin show as well...

Hate Story 2, directed by Vishal Pandya is a franchise of the Hate Story. It marks the debut of TV actors Jay Bhanushali and Surveen Chawla along with the antagonist Sushant Singh. Produced by T-series the movie is a revenge thriller with Surveen Chawla playing the protagonist in a complete new bold, sexy avatar and is willing to cross any boundaries to take revenge for her lover’s (Jay) death. The bold film is noted for its frank portrayal of sex and explicit language. Hate Story 2 goes further into the murky world of Mumbai’s dirty politics. The plot thickens with even more bold content and the director hopes to push the envelope with the film into the grey shades that Bollywood rarely explores – the politics of sex.

After making waves with Hate Story in 2012, Paoli Dam had a rather quiet 2013 with Ankur Arora Murder Case as her only notable Bollywood release. Early last year, she redefined boldness with her uninhibited act in what stays on to be inarguably the most erotic thriller ever made in Bollywood, Hate Story. Paoli Dam, the award winning actress, refrained from overstaying her welcome in that mould though and decided to lie low than pick up more films in the same genre. Now, she would be seen in Baga BEACHWhile Hate Story was a revenge saga, Baga Beach, as the name suggests, is set in Goa. From being a flowery tourist...

All eyes are on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-leela, which hit the theatres today and as expected the movie has not disappointed both critics and the audience. The lead pair of Deepika-Ranveer is fabulous along with a great supporting cast but the surprise of the movie is the role by Gulshan Devaiah.
Gulshan, who essays the role of the antagonist Bhavani (Deepika’s cousin), has done a fantastic job in slowly unfolding his character from a young and angry saneda lieutenant who lurks in the background to a scheming, conniving villain who is in the thick of things.
The talented actor, who was earlier seen in Shaitan and Hate Story has grabbed this opportunity with both hands and poured himself into it and it seems like it’s paying off. The actor has a great year to look forward to, with Phantom Picture’s Hunter and a...

New Delhi, Sep 16: Actor Gulshan Devaiah, who played negative roles in films like "Shaitan" and "Hate Story", will once again play the role of antagonist in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Ramleela".
