Warning: Spoilers
This is another fan-made short film on a notable superhero-franchise, this time The Green Lantern. The quantity it has received in terms of votes and list inclusions makes me think, it was probably mistaken a few times for the big superhero film with Ryan Reynolds, that got released one year later. However, this is the 9-minute Canadian short film directed by and starring (in a minor role) Matthew Bianchi. None of the cast is really known and it's also the very first movie for the two lead actors. For most of the cast and crew, it may be a one-time journey into the world of movies.

Basically, it's about two nerdy guys and what they experience during a party they visit in a very humble version of the costume of superhero Green Lantern. I quite liked the first three minutes. Their dressing-up and interactions when getting ready for the big event were occasionally pretty entertaining. The other two thirds, actually at the party, weren't particularly entertaining and have been done this way an uncountable number of times, frequently better. At the party we see the very different impacts the boys, in their dresses, have on the girls. I'd recommend the film to superhero-movie enthusiasts, but everybody else is not really missing much.

The Green Lantern Review

Warning: Spoilers
My initial reaction to "The Green Lantern" trailer was that the film was going to be just as bad as "Daredevil". But surprisingly the film was not a big disaster. There are scenes that are weak, and have mock-ability but not in a bad way, It felt that this film was all in good fun.

Hal Jordan(Ryan Reynolds) is nominated to be the first human Green Lantern, which are an alien life form that protect the universe from evil. Then a scientist Hector Hammond(Peter Sarsgaard) is asked to perform an autopsy on the alien that Hal Jordan took over for. A piece of the alien attaches itself to Hector and his body start slowly deforming.

I thought that Ryan Reynolds should not have been this character. I think his look is right but they should have gone with an unknown, I feel that would have made the film stronger. Blake Lively is nothing special as Carol Ferris, she just delevers a bunch of flat, and overly acted dialogue.

Peter Sarsgaard was great, and fantastic to watch. There are moments for his character that can easily be made fun, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he is a great actor. Another great actor in the film was Mark Strong who played Sinestro, an elder Green Lantern, that doubts Hal's abilities. There is something oddly calming about Strong's voice. He also had his scenes that were horrible, but I believe both of these actors were just working with what the script had.

I thought the whole film actually looked quite nice. I don't believe the 3D really enhanced anything but Martin Campbell did a great job with his visual style of the film. Every scene that took place in space truly looked fantastic. Martin Campbell also made my favorite bond film which is "Casino Royale". I give "The Green Lantern" a 7.5 out of 10
