- The seven teams continue the leg in Cuba as they travel from Havana to Guamá. The team who stole a taxi from another team in the previous leg find the consequences to be far-reaching. A Detour involving two Cuban icons ends with shattering results for one team. The teams receive a surprise when they learn that they must drive to Australia.—Allister Coots
- Workmates Paul & Steve, who are charged up enough to continue the leg, and cheerleading twins Michelle & Jo, who are feeling the effects of a six-hour drive through Cuba, open up the clues that host Grant Bowler handed to them at what they thought was the end of the previous leg and find out that they must now drive themselves to the Club Nautico Internacional Hemingway de le Havana and sign up for one of seven individual charter boats that will depart at four intervals 30 minutes apart. Michelle is cheering because she is in second place and is confident of driving her team's car, while Paul & Steve have to prolong their lead and continue to enjoy being number one.
Police officers Shane & Andrew find a way out of their car troubles when they are approached by a local. Although he doesn't speak English, when the policemen explain their predicament to him with hand symbols, he gets stuck into the bonnet of their car and gets it to the point where they can start it up and continue their drive to the Tropicana nightclub. Brother and sister Joseph & Grace also get mobile with some local help after they push their car into sight of a Cuban house party and a woman takes a look inside and discovers that one of their fuses has blown. The tenacious local finds some wire in the street and uses it to close the electrical circuit, allowing the brother and sister to set off again, mindful that the delay has taken a big chunk out of their racing time. Shane & Andrew find the Tropicana nightclub and the lead showgirl, who hands them the clue directing them to drive themselves to the next Pit Stop at the Hotel Nacional. Sisters Lucy & Emilia consider abandoning their car where it stops on the railway tracks, but another try at starting it allows them to drive clear of the line. They are relieved when they find the Tropicana - the first time the sisters have ever been happy to see a nightclub. Just ahead of them are dating couple James & Sarah, who realise that they are in the middle of the pack - there is still some pressure on, but it wasn't as bad as it was before according to Sarah. Both teams find the lead showgirl and receive the clue to the Pit Stop, despite the sisters being tempted to grab a cocktail and stay for a while. Shane & Andrew check in third at the Pit Stop, where Grant tells them that he has something for them, and then hands them their next clue.
Paul & Steve arrive at the Marina Hemingway, where they find that they are the first of two teams to sign up for charter boats departing at 8:00am the following morning, which means that they will be on level terms with Michelle & Jo. Joseph & Grace and Sticky & Sam are the last two teams to find the head showgirl and receive the clue to the Pit Stop. James & Sarah and Lucy & Emilia are the fourth and fifth teams to arrive at the mat and receive their next clue from Grant. The sisters find themselves battling fatigue as they read out the clue sending them to the Marina Hemingway. Shane & Andrew arrive at the marina and are on the first of two 8:30am boats. Sticky & Sam get lost again on the way to the Hotel Nacional, and pull in to a service station to ask for directions. Joseph & Grace arrive at the Pit Stop, but Grant tells them that he cannot check them in because they breached the Race rules by pulling another team's gear out of the taxi they stole in France, and they have incurred a two hour penalty that they must sit out at the mat. Grace thinks afterwards that it would be silly if they were eliminated on the basis of a penalty, and she certainly wouldn't want them eliminated over James & Sarah.
James & Sarah are the next team to arrive at the Marina Hemingway, and sign up for the second charter boat departing at 8:30am. Lucy & Emilia are on the only charter boat that leaves at 9:00am, and are surprised to find James & Sarah ahead of them. Sticky & Sam get the directions they need to find the Pit Stop at the Hotel Nacional, and arrive at the mat with Joseph & Grace having served just over half of their penalty time. The flatmates receive their next clue from Grant, which also reveals to the brother and sister that the race will still continue. When their penalty time is done, Grant calls them back to the mat and tells them that they have a lot of catching up to do as he hands them their clue. Joseph reveals later that he never gives up hope and is always prepared to keep racing. Sticky & Sam and Joseph & Grace sign up for the last two charter boats, which depart at 9:30am. Sticky & Sam feel that they have caught up some ground on the other teams, while Joseph & Grace are also surprised to see James & Sarah ahead of Lucy & Emilia.
At 8:00am, Paul & Steve and Michelle & Jo board their charter boats and receive the clue to the Road Block. In this task, one person from each team will put their fishing and navigation skills to the test when they board a big game fishing charter. They will be given two coordinates and must use a nautical chart and compass to locate an old fisherman out at sea, who will hand them their next clue. However, if they succeed in landing a fish, they can exchange their catch for the next clue, and return to shore without needing to find the fisherman. They only have one hour to complete one of the tasks, and if they fail to do either, they will land a four hour penalty. Steve and Jo decide to perform the task for their respective teams. Steve plots a course and finds one boat on the way out which turns out not to be the one he is looking for, though he soon spots another possible boat further out. Jo becomes frazzled when the north arrow on her compass moves in different directions, and when she tries to plot the coordinates, she comes up with a point that turns out to be on land. She feels that she is under pressure to perform, as she considers that neither compass reading or fishing are her strong points, and the rough seas don't offer much help either. Steve, observing that he is able to see a great distance, finds a third possible boat while he is still on the way to the second.
The second two charter boats depart at 8:30am with Shane & Andrew and James & Sarah receiving the Road Block clue. Shane chooses to perform the task, while James & Sarah play Scissors, Paper, Rock to decide who will do it. When Sarah's rock blunts James' scissors, he ends up taking the task on, but as soon as he starts reading, he realises that he is no good with a compass. The second boat that Steve tries is the "old man of the sea" that he is looking for, and before long, Steve nets the clue and opens it up to find a Detour which offers a choice between tasks that celebrate two of Cuba's favourite icons - Che Puzzle or Daiquiri Guzzle. Teams choosing Che Puzzle must drive themselves to Old Havana and complete a giant 90 piece puzzle. When it is done, a famous image of Cuban revolutionary hero Che Guevara will be revealed, and they will receive their next clue. Teams choosing Daiquiri Guzzle must drive themselves to the Old Floridita Bar, where the author Ernest Hemingway used to drink daiquiris. There, they must both make six daiquiris and then deliver them using only one hand down the road to the room where Ernest Hemingway used to stay at the Hotel Ambos Mundos, a task that will test teams' strength and balance, with potentially shattering results. If they can deliver the drinks without spilling too much out of them, they will receive their next clue. Paul & Steve decide to do Che Puzzle. As they return, Jo sees them from five hundred metres away bolting back to where the cheerleading twins had been coming from, so she and Michelle make the decision to copy them and approach the boat the workmates had just left, which leads to her receiving the clue to the Detour.
James gives himself what he thinks is a reasonable idea of the general direction of the boat that he is looking for, but the first boat he asks turns out not to be the one. When Shane is also unsuccessful with the first boat he asks, he turns his hand to the other part of the task and tries some fishing. Back on land, Paul & Steve and Michelle & Jo find their classic cars replaced by smaller, modern versions, and the hardest challenge for Michelle & Jo is once again trying to find reverse gear, while Paul & Steve realise that they cannot get complacent despite their lead. Lucy & Emilia receive the clue to the Road Block at 9:00am, with Emilia opting to perform the task. Out on the ocean, James has no luck with asking another boat that he finds, and feels like he is a useless idiot who is doing what an idiot does - running around not knowing anything. After 20 minutes of trying themselves, Michelle & Jo have to get some local help to find reverse and drive out of the car park. Paul & Steve find themselves in the wrong Avenida Washington (Washington Avenue), from where the clue says that they have to walk to the challenge, which a local tells them is around eight kilometres away. When they decide that they can't find the right Washington Avenue, they make the decision to switch tasks and do the Daiquiri Guzzle. Shane gets a bite on his fishing line and succeeds in reeling in a catch. He and Andrew receive the Detour clue and decide to do Che Puzzle, and return to the marina as Sticky & Sam and Joseph & Grace get ready to depart. When they receive the Road Block, Sam and Joseph choose to perform the task, despite Sam not having a clue about navigating with a compass. The rough seas make Emilia sea-sick. Shane & Andrew also have trouble with finding Avenida Washington, but they come across Michelle & Jo also searching for the same place, so the two teams try to work together with the policemen following the twins.
Paul & Steve arrive at the Old Floridita Bar, and learn how to make daiquiris, which is a first-time experience for non-drinker Paul. Michelle & Jo and Shane & Andrew find the marked entrance where they have to leave their cars, make their way on foot to the cathedral area where the puzzle pieces are and start working on the puzzle with little to go on. Out at sea, James finds a couple of possible boats, but when the skipper tells him that he only has 10 minutes left, he has to choose one of them to approach. Luckily, the boat he chooses turns out to be the one he is looking for, with the person at the back of it smiling and pulling out a clue with 5 minutes of the available time remaining. James reveals afterwards that the challenge seemed like all the other bad luck they'd had in challenges past was made up for with some good luck. Emilia is next to find the old man of the sea and receive the Detour clue from him. Paul & Steve depart from the Old Floridita Bar and start to walk the eight blocks to the Hotel Ambos Mundos. At one point, Paul becomes concerned when his hand starts to shake and he sees some liquid spilling out, mindful that he has to keep the level of drink in the glasses above a red line not far from the top of the glass. As they pass a parade on the way, Paul has his other arm ready as a defence to swat or slap any performer he felt was going to come and try and take a glass off him. When Michelle & Jo see several people taking their photo as they continue working on their puzzle, they decide to ask them for help and join them in making the puzzle. Shane & Andrew see the locals helping the cheerleading twins out and decide to get a few locals involved with them as well.
Sam follows the compass in one direction and it leads his charter vessel to a boat which has the old man of the sea that gives him a clue. They have caught a lucky break after being at the back of the pack for the first time in the race, but realise that they need to keep going. Joseph sees Sticky & Sam's boat with the other vessel and tells his skipper to do a U-turn so he can approach the boat as well. They realise that although they are in last, they have to keep going. When they receive the Detour clue, James decides to do Che Puzzle, knowing how hard it can be to carry a tray full of martini glasses and being OK with puzzles, but Grace wants to do the Daiquiri Guzzle, not having a problem with carrying the drinks and having no experience with puzzles. When she threatens to have a heart attack if they don't do the daiquiris, Joseph has to relent to the will of his younger sister. James & Sarah and Lucy & Emilia find the puzzles, with the sisters taking the approach of going around the edges of the puzzle with each piece, and putting the piece aside if it doesn't fit. Paul & Steve arrive at the Hotel Ambos Mundos and have to take their drinks up five flights of stairs that are only just wide enough for two people to fit. They then find Hemingway's room and have to place the drinks on the table still holding the tray with one hand. An old man in the room looks at all of the drinks to make sure none of them have fallen below the red line, and gives the workmates the thumbs-up before handing them their next clue. Paul & Steve chuckle as they read out the clue when it tells them that they have to drive themselves to Australia, which turns out to be not the island continent, but a village two hours south-east of Havana that was once home to an Australian-owned sugar mill. Once there, they must find a nearby crocodile farm and feed and catch a crocodile in order to receive their next clue. On their way back to the cars, they pass the people in the parade again and high-five them, confident that they have maintained their lead and couldn't have done the task any faster than they did.
At the cathedral square, Shane & Andrew get a real flow from the locals helping them, and become the first team to complete the puzzle and see the image of Che Guevara. They think it is some sort of trick when they find that they have to drive themselves to Australia, but things become clear for both themselves and Michelle & Jo when the next line of the clue explains that it is an old sugar cane township. Michelle & Jo get a taxi to lead them and Shane & Andrew to the freeway and the two teams agree to split the fare. Sticky calls on his experience in making cocktails and doing cocktail competitions as he and Sam each make their six daiquiris, but after they set off with drinks in hand, they realise that they don't know where they are heading. Sam manages to get the clue out and the flatmates realise that they were going the wrong way. The daiquiris start melting and slopping all over the place as they go, making the task more difficult for them. James & Sarah also get some help from the locals in making their puzzle, but clash with each other about the pieces, with James not having a bar of Sarah trying to tell him what to do. Sarah presumes that she is right unless James can prove that she is wrong. Joseph & Grace arrive at the Old Floridita bar with Grace very excited about making the daiquiris, and Joseph mindful that it would be tough as neither of them had any experience in bartending. Sticky & Sam get frustrated by the parade as James & Sarah complete the puzzle, with Sarah feeling vindicated because her idea worked. The dating couple come up with their own expressions of the experience, with James saying that a good leader first has to learn how to follow, while for Sarah, it's a case of happy wife, happy life, not that they are married. Joseph & Grace continue the challenge that James feels like he was forced into as they carry their daiquiris toward the Hotel Ambos Mundos. Sticky & Sam climb up the stairs of the hotel knowing that they are at the bare minimum. When they find Hemingway's room, the man inside it spends a good five minutes looking closely at their daiquiris before giving them the thumbs-up and handing them their next clue.
Lucy & Emilia complete their puzzle, revealing later that one of the reasons why they are still in the race is because the struggle is never between them - they have to remain positive, keep supporting each other and make the most of everything that is thrown at them. On the way to the Hotel Ambos Mundos, Grace pauses for a moment to turn her tray to a position that feels better, but moments after they set off again, one of the glasses falls down and causes the entire tray to fall out of her hand. Joseph promptly decides to switch tasks and admonishes Grace for not listening to him earlier when they were discussing what task to choose. Grace again becomes selectively deaf when Joseph tells her it is the last time he lets her make a decision. They are the only team still to complete the Detour when they arrive at Cathedral Square and start working on the puzzle.
Paul & Steve arrive at the sugar cane town of Australia, Cuba, and think that it doesn't look anything like Australia ... until they see the crocodile farm. There, they have to fill up a wheelbarrow with fish to feed to the crocodiles. Shane & Andrew and Michelle & Jo are the next teams to arrive at the village, find the crocodile farm and start filling wheelbarrows full of fish. Michelle gets some of the blood splattered on her face. Paul & Steve then set about their next task of catching a crocodile, with Paul being mindful of the agility of the creatures, but the first one they try to catch darts away before they can trap it inside the lasso. Shane & Andrew take their feed to the crocodiles as Michelle & Jo, who are still loading feed into their wheelbarrow, complain that cheerleaders don't do this kind of stuff. The second crocodile that Paul tries to catch also panics, but it ends up jumping into the lasso. He and Steve get it into the bag and then receive their next clue. They must now make their way on foot to a marked speedboat that will take them across the Laguna Del Tesoro Nature Reserve until they reach a bungalow at the Hotel Villa Guamá, which is the Pit Stop for this leg of the race.
Michelle & Jo start feeding the crocodiles as Shane & Andrew finish the feeding and set about catching a crocodile. Shane moves slowly and catches one straight away. Paul & Steve and Shane & Andrew board speedboats for the trip across the Laguna del Tesoro Nature Reserve to the bungalow, where the workmates find Grant and are checked in first. As the winners of this leg of the race, Paul & Steve have won an action-packed holiday of a lifetime to Queenstown, New Zealand, including flights and accommodation, worth A$10,000 courtesy of Pump water, which they can enjoy after the race. Paul sees his team as being quite capable of taking this race, now that they have won three legs in a row. Shane & Andrew are the second team to reach the mat. Back in Havana, Joseph & Grace make it through the puzzle quickly, and after receiving the clue, they find a taxi driver who can guide them to the motorway that will take them to Australia for 20 pesos. Sticky & Sam drive back 20 kilometres toward the airport before Sam realises that they are not at the place on the map he thought they were, and the flatmates are disappointed in themselves for dropping the bundle. After driving for another hour, they find themselves back at the Old Floridita bar where they did the Detour.
As Michelle & Jo prepare to catch a crocodile, they don't know what to expect. James & Sarah are the next to arrive at the crocodile farm and deal with loading up the vile smelling fish to take to the crocodiles and feed them. Michelle & Jo both claim the credit for catching the crocodile for their team because Michelle hooped it in the lasso while Jo pulled the rope. They receive the clue to the Pit Stop and "live the dream" as they take the speedboat across the Laguna Del Tesoro towards the bungalow. Lucy & Emilia find Australia and the nearby crocodile farm without getting lost and begin loading the crocodile feed into their wheelbarrow. James & Sarah are next to catch a crocodile. James fancies being something that Sarah later describes as a "mini Steve Irwin", while Sarah cannot wait to get out. After they catch a crocodile, they receive the clue, and head for the boats as Lucy & Emilia arrive to feed the crocodiles. The sisters tell the dating couple to have a shower soon, before they get the job of feeding the crocodiles done without mucking around. Michelle & Jo and James & Sarah find Grant and check in third and fourth respectively.
Sticky & Sam finally find the village of Australia and are reassured that they are going the right way when they see a marked arrow. Joseph & Grace start to fill their wheelbarrow with crocodile food as Emilia becomes a "crocodile whisperer" when she catches the crocodile for the sisters. As they find the speedboat, Joseph & Grace find out that they are the second to last team when they see that only two of the crocodile feeding pens' seats do not have a cross on their marker. They are in a hurry as they throw some food to the crocodiles, while Lucy & Emilia arrive on the mat in fifth. Sticky & Sam find out that they are back in the race when they see Joseph & Grace's car still parked at the crocodile farm. As the flatmates load their wheelbarrow, Joseph, after a couple of attempts, catches a crocodile, allowing the brother and sister to receive the clue to the Pit Stop. They depart for the speedboat as Sticky & Sam feed the crocodiles in the last available pen. Not seeing anyone else around, the flatmates realise that they are done like a dinner, but they don't let the low feeling stop them from continuing to push. Sam catches the crocodile and he and Sticky are soon on their way to the speedboat, realising that this is the heartbreaker for them.
Joseph & Grace are the sixth team to find Grant at the bungalow. After they check in, James & Sarah see them, and the two teams speak to each other for the first time since the brother and sister stole the dating couple's taxi back in Paris. James & Sarah are still pissed off, but Joseph & Grace both offer apologies for what happened, with Grace going as far as hugging Sarah. They find out that they are both still in the race, but Sarah thinks that Joseph is sorrier than Grace. Joseph gives James & Sarah his word that if they need to help them down the line, they will be happy to do so. Despite feeling like she wants to slap them, Sarah would rather let Joseph & Grace's actions tell the dating couple how sorry they really are. Grace, on the other hand, doesn't want to make it up to the dating couple, feeling that Sarah should accept her apology and move on to the next leg. Darkness falls as Sticky & Sam's speedboat finds the bungalow, and Grant tells them that they are the last team to arrive, and are out of the race. The flatmates tell him that their navigation skills let them down. Grant asks them if they had any doubts, to which Sticky replies that they didn't. He has gone through his entire life doing everything one-handed, and didn't think he was going to change. Sam adds that Sticky makes him proud every day, seeing the sort of stuff that he can do. They have no doubt that they will be mates until the end. Grant tells them that it has been a pleasure having them on the race. As they reflect afterwards, the memories they have of their experience will last a lifetime. Sam is thankful, as he thought that there was no way that he and Sticky would be able to do the race, and he sees it as a dream come true.
