A dramatic story about the plight of rectangles
KillerK199112 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Thomas Was Alone is an adventure that should be tried by anyone young or old; an existential tale of the struggle of the titular Thomas and his rectangular cohorts to find meaning, knowledge, and a path to freedom. A puzzler in more ways than one, including the overall story in general, 'Thomas manages to accomplish so much with so little, giving us a character driven, exciting, narrative with little more than a few shapes; each with a dynamic personality of their own. Themes of futility, love, friendship, jealousy, and much more are explored in such a simple, sterile, environment in a greater and more diverse way than most big budget titles before or since. A huge element in the success of 'Thomas lies in the charming narrative provided by humorist Danny Wallace. His delivery is top notch throughout, providing a unique personality to each of our rectangular heroes with delightful exuberance. All would be for naught if the game was not fun, and thankfully, the game is. The puzzles are perfect in that they are easy enough to not frustrate yet challenging enough to maintain interest to its thrilling yet abruptly vague conclusion. Thomas Was Alone is a mysterious game that anyone looking for something simple yet different should experience right away.

THOMAS WAS ALONE: Friendship & Geometry
Jinxxa_Wolf28 March 2021
THOMAS WAS ALONE was such a great indie game, and an even greater experience. I had initially played it back in 2012 or so, when it was first released. To be honest I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did.

It's so much more than the simple game it appears to be, with it's minimalist style and mechanics. While it certainly is a minimalistic game in art, style, design and mechanics- it has a deeply rich narrative and contains larger than life geometric characters, all of whom leave lasting impressions. The narrator, Danny Wallace, did a stellar job and brought the story and characters to life. Absolutely brilliant narration and voice acting.

Overall, this was a great play and I'm so glad I gave it a chance all those years ago. It still holds up and it just as enjoyable, entertaining and heart-felt as it had been back then. Bound to be classic. Be careful not to pass this one up and prematurely judge this game based on its aesthetic appeal. This was a wonderfully memorable play.

Look out! This game will get you right in the feels.

100% #9

Warning: Spoilers
Since this game will be leaving the PS PLUS catalog, I picked it up to get all of its trophies before then. Unfortunately there is no platinum trophy, but the important thing is to get all the trophies. It's not a game that I would even consider buying, as it's not my style. At least I've already finished three of the games that will be released from the catalog: Tacoma, Thomas Was Alone and Lost Word. Tekken 7 will also come out but I already did it in December. Both very easy to do 100% and get the platinum. A positive point is that the narrator of Thomas Was Alone gives the voice to Shaun Hastings from the Assassin's Creed saga. I immediately recognized the voice 100% #9 Game made with 100% trophies on January 23, 2024.
