Jeff Dylan Graham was cast to play real-life convicted killer Ronald DeFeo. When Graham traveled to London for filming, he was turned away at immigration due to a mix up regarding a work visa. Most of the scenes involving or referencing the Defeo character were subsequently minimized or cut completely.
The murder of the DeFeo family by Ronald DeFeo is not the only real life reference in the film. The inmates of the Amityville Asylum are also loosely based on true cases. The back story for the character of Sadie Krenwinkel is based on the crimes of Manson Family members Susan Atkins and Patricia Krenwinkel. The murder depicted in the film by the character of Dennis Palmer is based on British criminal Robert Maudsley, who gruesomely murdered fellow inmates at Wakefield Prison.
Filmed in 11 days.
Debuted in UK cinemas just 5 weeks after the filmmakers completed post production.
In Germany, the distributors re-titled the film 'The Nesting 2: Amityville Asylum' in order to capitalize on a successful German re-release of the 1981 American film The Nesting (1981).
