" When I turned up, there was 283 of us that started. In the end, there was only seven of us that remained. We would like to see

"The backward dive is designed to test your element of fear. Someone with weak character will not make it as an operator. They will fail. When you're stood on the skid your arms will go across your chest, your head and eyes will face forward. Stay in control and you'll naturally just fall backwards. You pass the task by doing exactly as you're told, entering the water headfirst, and nice and straight. You fail it by panicking, turning into a jellyfish and it'll feel like you fell onto concrete, it will hurt." - Mark Billingham
"In Afghanistan, I've been in helicopter crashes, so we have to be prepared for the worst-case scenario, which is ditching into the sea, and we need to know that we can survive. The tasks on this course....are designed to help us as DS see how the recruits...deal with anxiety, fear, all rolled into one." - Jason Fox
