- While investigating an explosion, Detective Murdoch infiltrates an anarchist group lead by American labour organizer Emma Goldman.
- An explosion at a market shop knocks Constables Crabtree (Jonny Harris) and Higgins (Lachlan Murdoch) to the street. Detective Murdoch's (Yannick Bisson) survey of the scene uncovers a homemade incendiary device. Peter Milne (Brock Johnson), the irate shopkeeper, demands to Inspector Brackenreid (Thomas Craig) that the police cover his considerable losses. But with Higgins seriously injured in the blast, Brackenreid is enraged by his selfishness. Further investigation reveals many other neighbours don't think favourably of Milne, particularly Angus Trout (John Jarvis), who was driven out of business by the aggressive merchant. As Murdoch, Higgins and Brackenreid develop theories about the incident, Brackenreid believes the constabulary may have been the actual targets, given the proximity of the shop to a new police callbox. The notion is quickly quashed when Murdoch is greeted by Terrance Meyers (Peter Keleghan), a high-level government official. Meyers suggests that the Canadian government's diplomatic effort to secure a state visit by the American President was the motive. As for suspects, he's certain he knows who was behind what he deems an anarchist terror attack - noted Communist and labour activist Emma Goldman (Lisa Goldman). But to make the case, they'll need to infiltrate the dangerous group.—Anonymous
- Constables Crabtree and Higgins are injured when a bomb explodes in a store. Higgins is hospitalized but Crabtree and Murdoch are on the case. They soon learn that the store owner, Mr. Peter Milne, is disliked by a great many people including other shopkeepers on the main street. They focus on one of his former employees, Angus Trout, who it turns out is an avowed communist. Murdoch is surprised when Ottawa-based security officer Terrence Meyers arrives on the scene. It seems Canada is hoping U.S. President McKinley will visit Canada, the first such visit ever by a President to foreign soil. Murdoch and Meyers go undercover and infiltrate a group of anarchists led by none other than Emma Goldman and find none other than US spy Allen Clegg, also undercover. Constable Crabtree meanwhile pursues a different line of investigation and uncovers an altogether more boring - and more likely - motive for the bombing.—garykmcd
- Crabtree is particularly eager to (help) solve the homemade incendiary device exploding at the market square store of generally disliked Peter Milne, whose landlord wants to get rid of him like many neighbors, as his dumb fellow constable Higgins is badly wounded. Murdoch questions all but is forced to focus on fired store clerk Angus Trout, a communist, whom secret agent Terrence Meyers suspects of plotting an attempt on US president McKinley's unprecedented state visit to Canada, along with a bunch of anarchists around Emma Goldman, and infiltrating there they find -also undercover- US spy Allen Clegg, while an Emma-adoring student confesses only to a second bombing. Crabtree reluctantly lets Julia's trainee, Dr. Emily Grace, join his own research for links between persons, which yields such a promising, simply greedy suspect the Murdoch insists to let George conduct the crucial questioning.—KGF Vissers
