Not as tightly woven as "Trapped" but decent show nevetheless
msghall13 September 2022
"Trapped" was a pleasant surprise: A taut, emotionally-driven series with tight plots and engrossing environments. Sure, it was slow in parts but still amazing that a country of 400K residents can come up with something that blows much of Netflix programming away.

Saying that, this series lacks some of the tight scripting of "Trapped." Too often my mind wandered when it should have been glued to the TV. There just too much superfluous stuff, too many soap opera moments that the previous series avoided.

Still, it's an admirable show. I stayed with it and felt fully engaged with the characters. Perhaps a little too much at times as I would lose my place in the story. Thankfully, the ending neither disappoints nor insults the audience. Respect.

A weak sequel. Nordic Gris!
ikanboy21 September 2022
I expected something as fine as "Trapped" but was disappointed, as it seems as are others.

The basic fault is a script that can't seem to raise above grade B theatrics. The cops continue to act stupidly. The bad guys are "Sons Of Anarchy" on Ritalin. The main character bumbles around like Gentle Ben. No-one comes across as real, merely caricatures, and the dialog is stilted.

It's all been done before but with a hackneyed plot line it helps to have a better script, and character development.

It all shows in the acting, which simply follows the dialog faithfully rather than striking out and creating some risk.

We do not need another sequel. Let this one lie.

Hmmm not sure
gallagherkellie21 September 2022
Not as good as the first 2 seasons (Trapped - not sure why Netflix changed the name for season 3?).

There were some ridiculous moments in this season. I don't want to say any spoilers but it was kinda silly at times. Still enjoyable to watch though.

The acting was good. I don't understand why women fawn over the main character.

I'm glad it was only 6 episodes, I heard it was originally 8 so I'm glad it was cut to 6.

The ending of this season was stupid...very unbelievable.

Not sure if there will be a 4th season, but if there is I'd still watch it. Like I said, it was enjoyable and I like the scenery and acting. It wasn't predictable which is also good.

Disappointing sequel to the "Trapped" TV series from Iceland
paul-allaer14 September 2022
As Episode 1 of "Entrapped" (2022 release from Iceland; 6 episodes ranging from 41 to 54 min each) opens, a rather weird group of meditating pagans is interrupted by a gang of bikers who feel the pagans have stolen their land. Late that night, one of the pagans is brutally murdered. Meanwhile Andri, a recently divorced cop, volunteers to assist in the murder investigation when he realizes that he knows the guy who was killed... At this point we are 10 minutes into Episode 1.

Couple of comments: some 5-6 years ago, there was an excellent Icelandic crime series called "Trapped" that stretched out over 3 seasons and 28 episodes. This new series is a sequel of sorts, with the main returning character being Andri, who based on a technicality is able to join into this new murder. We eventually learn that the murder may well be connected to one of the murders in the "Trapped" series. Unfortunately, as good as "Trapped" was, this new series doesn't come anywhere close in quality. It's not that it's outright bad, but the difference in quality, in particular in the writing, is quite stark. Also the fact that there are only 6 episodes should tell you something. It's like someone said, "hey guys, people are still talking about "Trapped", so we need to come with something, anything, that picks ups the pieces and gets this going again". "Entrapped" ultimately feels unnecessary but with just 6 episodes, it all goes by rather quickly.

"Entrapped" recently premiered on Netflix, and I couldn't wait to check it out. While it wasn't a complete waste of my time, I neverthele4ss feel like it was a letdown as compared to the original "Trapped" series. Of course don't take my word for it, so I encourage you to check it out, and draw your own conclusion.

"Thinner" than Trapped, but still above average
BeneCumb30 December 2022
Well, it should be Trapped and Season 3, but someone somewhere decided that "a new start" would attract fresh audience? The number of episodes is also smaller (6 vs. 8), but on the ground of the story here, it could have been easily 5... Everything is slower, the star Ólafur Darri Ólafsson spends less time on screen, and the inclusion of otherwise great Danish actor Thomas Bo Larsen did not provide much value, as his character has a few dimensions only... The beautiful nature of Iceland is yet visible, but the distress and dreariness are more or less gone or in the far background.

Still 7 points from me as I was unable to surmise the wrongdoer and the reasons behind the crime was a nice twist.

A slow pace, but continuously tense
norbert-plan-618-71581321 January 2023
This Icelandic detective series marks the mind thanks to different components. The first component is the geographical background of Iceland with its scenery, its landscapes, its deserts, its rhythms and the travel by car or motorcycle or helicopter. The other component is its police team, which is a trio, with a laid-off inspector, a policewoman and an investigator: they are not super-cops. They don't have a technological arsenal to carry out their investigations; and in the course of the different episodes, elements about their personal lives are given, and moreover they make mistakes. And the last one is the plot, a murder, a multitude of stakeholders who could have committed the murder, and we will learn the name of the culprit at the end of the last episode, having suspected many of the characters met during the dramatic progression.

All this is well done and gives a rather slow pace, but which suits well the still inertial movements on the island. And the various stakeholders in this story allow for a variety of social engineering: a cult of enlightened people, bikers, grieving families, a previous unsolved murder perhaps related, the police team. All this gives a whole that has its own rhythm and its own aesthetic.

A series that meets its specifications: keep the viewer captive until the last minute of its last episode.

A bit complex for a short series, but a worthy successor to "Trapped"
steiner-sam12 November 2022
It's a police procedural that is actually a six-episode third season of "Trapped" that I reviewed a little while back. It remains set in Reykjavík and more remote areas of Iceland. It follows two police detectives and a local police chief as they solve three murders, one of which occurred seven years earlier.

Andri Ólafsson (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson), the older detective, and Hinrika (Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir) remain the core of the story. Trausti (Björn Hlynur Haraldsson) is another detective from the earlier series who had conflicts with Andri, but now they're working together. Andri gets pulled into a crime from his past that seems related to current crimes in his old town.

The plot involves a group living communally and engaging in nature worship and a local motorcycle gang that joins a Danish motorcycle gang involved in drug smuggling. There are family relationships between the two groups and conflicting claims on the land's ownership.

This season, we learn much more about Andri's background and the murder case that he botched years earlier. His suspect in the earlier case has now been murdered, and both murders seem linked to the current commune-motorcycle gang conflict. By the end of the series, Andri faces a full reckoning for his actions while he and Hinrika also solve the current crimes.

It was good to get more depth on Andri's background, though some of the complexities of the commune/motorcycle gang storylines were a bit complex for a short series. The series also introduced some new characters who begged for further elaboration. Still, it's a worthy successor to "Trapped."

(En)trapped
danybur19 September 2022
Summary:

Entrapped (it is actually season 3 of Trapped) continues to expose the foreign as a threat to island peace and family conflicts as axes of the behavior of its characters, although without the almost Bergmanian depth of season 2. A more conventional crime series , but with all the ingredients to retain the viewer and always with the spectacular and decisive setting of the Icelandic landscape.

Review:

The murder of a young member of a neopagan sect coincides with the arrival in the Icelandic town of Siglufiörður of a gang of bikers willing to dispute the lands occupied by the sect.

The series (effectively a season 3 of Trapped, renamed Entrapped) finds Hinrika (Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir) as the new police chief of the northern Icelandic town and Andri (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) and Trausti (Björn Hlynur Haraldsson) serving as in Reykjavik. The murder case will intersect with others, one of them related to the suspected bikers, which will generate tensions, interference and dilemmas in the respective investigations.

Entrapped recovers in this season a narrative that is generally simpler (although sometimes it is a bit difficult to retain the names of the characters), mostly linear, far from the almost Bergmanian depth and complexity of season 2, but mostly effective. Family conflicts always appear as underlying and in general determinants of the plot and foreign characters as disturbing elements of the island's peace. Although the series (quite short and with chapters of around 40 minutes) continues to take its time, the story knows how to change the rhythm with several scenes of suspense and action, always with the wonderful Icelandic landscape as the determining setting.

As great as Trapped and that's a fact
neil-douglas20101 March 2023
Now we're onto series three of Trapped, or in this case Entrapped. Nothing much has changed, apart from Andri (Olafur Darri Olafsson) being brought back into an investigation. He's back investigating with Hinrika (Ilmur Kristjansdottir) and old foe Trausti. It's all about murders, a fight over land between a cult and a biker gang and the past of a main police character. The acting is perfect as always but it's Kristjandottir as Hildur who is the heart of the programme, a tough cookie as a police officer but also a loving wife and protective mother. The programme seems to have been given a slight upgrade because of being a Netflix series now, so I take more money was spent on this season, Iceland as always looks stunning.

The stories about.

Anemic; Lacks Tension
albertval-6956018 December 2022
The viewer might be waylaid somehow by this limited series. At the start, the viewer is introduced to the conflict between a cult and bikers' gang. And he thinks that this will be the main thrust of the story which looks promising because of the latent tension and violence that could go with it. However, the focus shifts to investigating the murder of a young cult member. Is this clear shift worthwhile? Not quite because it lacks suspense. The investigation is straightforward although, like all whodunnit films, the culprit is revealed only in the end.

There's also a sub-plot that deals with drug trafficking but this doesn't have traction for lack of time to develop it.

One can't help but to compare this and the original Icelandic series, "Trapped," which was better made with better storylines.

The main actors (who are the same ones as in "Trapped") dish out decent performances without the help of a soundtrack that stands out. Nothing really to crow about. At least, the viewer gets to see the natural beauty of Iceland which the camera captures beautifully.

Still great
tzwhgyw14 September 2022
Entrapped ties the loose end from Trapped. Story is captivating and the characters are human. Entrapped is a worthy successor to the original Trapped series. Iceland as a background gives the story a chilling sub tone and works great in contrast to the people shown as caring and loving. Henrika as a chief of police and mother really blossomed into a strong and decisive woman whilst Andri is haunted by his past and works on his redemption. I would recommend watching the Trapped series before jumping into this one as the character growth is nice to watch. I hope there would be another season that will show more of the beautiful yet slightly distant Iceland.

not as good as S01/2
eamonnh-8946929 March 2023
Firstly at paul-allaer man I don't know where you got your info but it is so far off, this entrapped is actually S03 of trapped if you will and not a fourth as you claimed, this site has included this in Trapped as season 3 which aired in Iceland in 2021 and was 8 episodes long, Netflix got the rights for this season worldwide streaming and re-edited it into 6 that aired a year later than in Iceland and also this "entrapped" case has no bearing or follow up to the first 2 seasons as you also claimed.

But what I will agree with you on it pales in comparison with the first two, but the thing you must remember season 1/2 was aimed at people from Iceland and not a worldwide viewer as this edited Netflix version was, hence the English tags on the bikers jackets, as the ones that aired in Iceland, it didn't say, member or prospect on their biker tags in English but their native language.

Disappointing follow-up to Trapped
altereggo12325 September 2022
As someone who really enjoyed Trapped, I was looking forward to this. Sadly, it is not as gripping a tale. Even the Icelandic landscape and weather seemed less fascinating and forbidding. Trapped involved lots of artic ice and blizzards, whereas this is set mostly in a biker gang's hideout and a pagan cult's compound. There's lots of back and forth between the two on a coastal highway. Bikers and police, back and forth, back and forth. Every time a new issue came up, there was a road trip to one or the other.

The show attempts the obligatory task of making every character seem like a potential suspect for at least five minutes, but not all of these attempts succeeded. Without giving any details away, I didn't find the resolution very satisfying or worth the time I had invested.

More of the trapped serie
Tiny T7 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Again a very decent crime on the beautiful island Iceland. To bad it didn't snow or stormed this time, I'm a sucker for series in harsh conditions. To get back at the serie, why this isn't produced under the trapped serie is beyond me. Definitely a consecutive season of that. All the previous characters are present and some new ones. Its 5 year after the first season when Andri's, the main character, former father in-law is released from prison after his conviction in the end of season one. Again, the case is a twisted combination of international crime and local drama with a red line of narrowminded of politics of the brass of the police corps. Sometimes skin crawling annoying, but mostly very entertaining and wel produced crime story. It's still strange to see coppers without a sidearm as standard issue after al those American series. With the British it seems less disturbing. Well, good enough to finish it off in one sitting.

Disappointing
BBogus3 December 2023
Olafur Darri as Andri is great as usual, as well as the other returning actors. Yet spoiled by serious plot holes and the cringe English speaking parts of which the acting is terrible (which was the same in Trapped season 2, wooden English speaking parts). They should simply leave it out. In particular Thomas Bo Larsen (Hopper) his acting was just awful. Still watchable but disappointing and bit frustrating because of bad script and often predictable. Moreover missing the typical Nordic Noir atmosphere, ambiance, mystery. More like a run-of-the-mil police, detective drama but set in Iceland. In sum returning actors are great considering the material they got, script is bad and cringe English acting parts. Honestly, with serious regret I don't expect there will be another season.

One of those crime short series you have been waiting the whole year.

Warning: Spoilers
For those who love this kind of movie, detective/crime solving it has it all.

It starts with a mystery, a murder in one of the nicest place on earth. Iceland. From there on things are getting very interesting. Everyone can be the killer so keeps you hooked up all to the end. Also the main detective has a bad reputation so it will be not easy to solve this case alone.

Cinematography is nice, amazing landscapes, moody look, great intro.

Love the language, somehow add a value to the mystery. Even if I don't understand it, but i find it cool.

If you love mystery, nature and crime series, this show is for you!

Continuing a great drama
Nos200113 September 2022
Whilst Trapped was one of the best drama series I've ever seen, it left one question unanswered: who killed Lina?

Untrapped, whilst some may feel is slightly rushed - being squeezed into 6 episodes, and the writing isn't up to the supreme example of the original - offers those who loved the characters and premise of its previous incarnation the pleasure of seeing it continue, and I'm hoping it does exactly that.

Without giving away any further spoilers re Lina, those desiring some form of conclusion to this question will no doubt be happy.

Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir and. Björn Hlynur Haraldsson give grand performances, albeit with a slightly less warming script, but considering the rest of Netflix's recent productions, those intent on joining them for another story will not be disappointed.

The English dub was okay, but those remembering the previous two seasons may wish to switch back to subtitles.

I'm looking forward to another season so, please Netflix, don't let me/us down - but perhaps remember the sublime scripting from before?

Fire and Ice works for me
janoffpeter27 September 2022
If you've already watched seasons 1 and 2 you'll feel right at home here. In fact you'll even know your way around the small North Icelandic fishing bill where most of it is filmed. Season three was named Entrapped which is an extension of 1 and 2s Trapped and most of the characters are static throughout yet Entrapped integrates a plot twist by way of introducing a biker mc gang and a pagan cult into the mix which heightens the tension. There are several new faces added to the short list of regulars. This final season was undoubtedly the best in terms of capturing Icelandic natural beauty. The Norse saga feel becomes all the more eminent here. Minor plot twists in terms of Andri the hero of the series played by the American born Icelandic actor Olafur Darri Olafsson. The Danish actor Thomas Bo Larson provides a convincing MC prez and the whodunnit plot on the Icelandic rocks rolls along fueled by the volcanic surroundings filmed and directed by Balthasar Kormakur. It would have been a full pot if it were not for the strange ending judicially speaking. Otherwise a nice surprise. Underrated Nordic crime noir works for me.

Very poor sequel
jeffdstockton30 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's probably the writing, and perhaps the producers had predetermined what they wanted to see. Even the acting lacks enthusiasm and a sense of real engagement. The villains are a joke; the fear and power that the police confer is wildly disproportionate to their obvious cartoonish fantasy. Asking viewers to believe the strutting 90-pound senior citizen as a real threat is just ridiculous.

The greatest tragedy is how the writing so forces the plot, and abuses viewers trust. Trapped let viewers come to know Andi, including his human qualities, not superhuman, and we admire him, like him and trust him.

Entrapped rudely and unskillfully contrives to poke viewers in the eye and lead us to feel foolish for trusting Andi - and for trusting the writers and producers.

It's a shameful waste of the goodwill and great reputation of Trapped. Maybe that's why they changed the name.

Pretty good as a stand alone season
rho-3837225 May 2023
I started watching this show unaware that is was actually Season 3 of the series Trapped. Season 1 and 2 are no longer available on Netflix, but its not hard to follow this as a stand alone season since they mention previous events. I thoroughly enjoyed Olafsson as the lead. He exudes the loner cop with emotional baggage very well.

His other 2 main cast members are also very convincing as police officers.

There were quite a few twists and turns and a couple red herrings before the real culprit was revealed, not who I suspected, so it kept me hooked. I loved the long range shots of the geography that enhanced the feeling of isolation and being "entrapped" in the circumstances. The pacing and the sort of less is more dialog, is nice when compared to the usual fast talking, scurring cops most American shows portray. And the ending left me wondering if there will be a Season 4.

Disappointing
keikoyoshikawa31 May 2023
"Trapped" season one was fantastic. It wasn't just the novelty of a crime drama taking place in Iceland, it was also the setting, the atmosphere, and especially the characters principally the chief of a small town police force Andri Olafsson.

Unfortunately, season 2 was much weaker and less interesting. And now "Entrapped," which is basically season 3, sadly continues the decline of the entire series from its excellent and hopeful first season. And I think I know why.

For season 1, if you remove Iceland, with its harsh and stark environment and nearly perpetual darkness, as the drop, the story would still stand up. The characters were well-designed and the protagonist and his small team quite interesting.

Season 2 didn't make such good use of the environment, and there were really no good character developments among the main ones who we follow. Also, the story was too far-fetched and thus not very engaging.

Come to season 3, what made the original so engrossing has completely disappeared. The series has become just another run-of-the-mill police and drama drama. The story could have taken place anywhere, and that's the shame of it.

A missed opportunity to showcase Iceland and its people.

Disappointing.

I was a huge fan of the original Trapped series (1). If you haven't watched that, do it now.

However, both the first sequel and, even worse, this one don't live up to the standards set by the first one.

Acting and general production values are high, however, there's just way too much time wasting and implausible twists in the story. Too much of the story looks like uninteresting subplots-decoys. Sometimes, characters do silly stuff - that's by far the worst way of resolving a situation in fiction. Resolution comes out clumsy at the end.

I would have preferred a classic crime story with the same heroes, some good old police work and some private stories here and there, instead of an excessive effort to create a wow factor.

Maybe the final season of an uneven series
jares12 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Well, this season trapped us all in a recursive story with a weird ending. Really, I enjoyed much the landscapes and the general intrigue. But this time the actors do not deliver, seem tired, and the investigators make one mistake after another for no reason, while Andi's character is forced to doubt about his competence just because years ago pushed a suspect during an interrogation and was therefore transferred to a small town. It took him seven years to philosophize!, (even when is proved he was then in the right track).

Then he goes in jail for..., really somebody explain it to me. He says he is guilty... of what? A guy says 'kill me or I kill her', he does not respond, so the guy press the trigger against the woman, the pistol fails an Andi shot him dead before a second shot kills her. He was suspended and has no permit for the gun, yeah! So, what? Fine him. Should he have explained the police 'see, my gun was unauthorized, the cops in the rear made nothing, so we stood there waiting, until he killed the girl and shot us all; tell my mother that I loved her' (gasp).

And how such an old infringement, already severely penalized, can be connected to an actual life and death situation? Should we in Iceland just watch if somebody is going to be murdered no matter the resources available to avoid it?

I think the writers wanted Andi jailed, but missed the how big. And this is big for my rating also. Disappointing.

I'd like to add that I'm a bit tired with the cliché that crime stories, in addition to the crime itself, the criminals and the investigation, focus more and more on the shortcomings, sensitivity and ontological haunting problems of the investigators, plus the troubles they must overcome because of the misdemeanors and follies of some of their relatives. Okay, they are human and it is not bad that we appreciate them that way. But, when this becomes dominant, we must remember that we all - including writers, directors and actors - face problems, pains, doubts and anxieties; which does not justify our job outcomes turn constantly that erratic and unproffesional. If so, no one is safe (or maybe that's the subliminal message?).

Costume/details sketch
Wolfylildoggy23 September 2022
The acting is up to caliber as far as a sometimes subtitled, other times dubbed series goes, and the script is valid enough. However some serious lack of research on biker politics/attire and even cult politics/attire is far from easy to ignore. Character Baby Lars is a supposed biker gang founder, yet sports a clean cut hairstyle and new leathers, is middle aged and isn't a convincing as being the looming biker hierarchy as the story tries hard to convince us as so. Also, I couldn't get past the costuming of matchy-matchy biker garb that all looked brand spanking new right down to the generic English name patches that say MEMBER and PROSPECT. Just the outfits alone distracted me so much I found it hard to let it go. Even on a budget, a lot could be done to costumes to lend to character believability. Overall, not a terrible waste of time but not on my "you gotta see this" list. No storyline spoilers here just my two cents on the overall.

3rd time didn't cut it
bob_katsionis5 October 2022
I lived the first season of Trapped, the atmosphere, the plot twists, the SNOW. It as all there.

Second one was very good too but int his third installment, we stopped somewhere mid-season. Literally NOTHING HAPPENS. People talking on the phone, then they ride the car and go somewhere else, talk a bit, then bring somebody for interrogation then back, then more talking and.. That was it for us. One of the few series we ever stopped.

Jusy landscapes and roads and talking and who is connected to whom and why and of course some unnecessary gay romance which really felt out of place. And imagine that we also currently enjoy UNCOUPLED very kuch so we dont belong in the wrong side of people. We just felt like "oh yes it has to be a bit of this as well"

Really sad as we like all the characters but... No time to lose.
