The monologue included a segment which depicted the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India - the holiest site in the Sikh religion - and described it as
Mitt Romney's summer home; the joke infuriated Sikhs, leading to a formal complaint from the Indian ambassador to the U.S., a complaint to the FCC from a Sikh rights organization and a libel lawsuit from an American Sikh, who argued that the joke constituted a racist attack and clearly exposed him, other Sikhs and their religion to "hatred, contempt, ridicule and obloquy because it falsely portrays the holiest place in the Sikh religion as a vacation resort owned by a non-Sikh".
