A few years back the pioneering disc boutique Mondo Macabro imported a number of exotic Eastern horror films, such as Purana Mandir from India. The movies seemed a real cultural curiosity, an imitation of our genre filmmaking with local touches added. Phil Hardy’s Encyclopedia of Horror reference book whetted my appetite for scores of amazing-sounding foreign horror pictures, that I thought I’d never see. Many have been made available in the digital age, although not always in this Region. A friend loaned me this exotic picture,...

Alicia Keys discusses the vibrant diversity and gritty character of New York City with Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith in a new clip from his upcoming PBS music and travel series, Landmarks Live in Concert, premiering Friday, January 20th at 9 p.m. Et.
"That provided me with a lot of open mindedness as an artist and as a musician and as a writer," Keys says of the myriad cultures embedded in the city. "Also, New York gave me a lot of grit, a lot of rough, tough – because it's a fast-paced city.

Over 1,200 people were part of the rescue team when a U.S. Airways flight made an emergency water landing in the Hudson River in 2009 — and Warner Bros. hired some of them for Clint Eastwood‘s biopic “Sully.” An individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap that some of the rescuers recreated what they did on that fateful day for the film. It chronicles how Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger made a water landing with 155 people on board. When the plane landed in the Hudson River, ferry boats from the NY Waterway and Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises fleet went out almost immediately.

Ziering relocated to New York City to vie for the title on Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice. Besides being a clothing entrepreneur – though he's also Chippendales-approved and ready for any tasks that require shirtlessness – Ziering has one major edge one his opponents: Have they ever faced off against a throng of sharks? That is, not in the boardroom …

Monday's episode of The Celebrity Apprentice had boats, awkward massages, anti-terrorist outbursts and, of course, two firings.
Our recap of the beautifully named "It's Like a Booze Cruise with Knowledge" follow. Let's keep it aboveboard, shall we?
1. A Cuptastrophe
As Team Vortex prepared a themed cruise around Manhattan for Circle Line, everything seemed to be, well, smooth sailing. That is, until a couple of hapless nautical cater-waiters didn't know where to take some plastic cups, and project manager Sig Hansen abruptly, inexplicably and absolutely freaked out.
It may have been the worst Celebrity Apprentice meltdown since The Great Meat Loaf...

(Spoiler alert: Do not read on if you have not yet seen Monday’s episode, titled “It’s Like a Booze Cruise with Knowledge.”)
“Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kenya Moore finds an adversary on any team she’s on and this week’s episode of NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” was no different.
On Monday’s episode, Moore battled Vivica A. Fox, with the ladies tossing verbal jabs at each other in the board room. When host Donald Trump asked Vivica if she was a fan of Kenya, all the actress could say was “she’s attractive” — far from a ringing endorsement.

Once again starring Ian Ziering (Beverly Hills, 90210) and Tara Reid (American Pie) — as Fin, a surfer turned action-hero (…turned 747 pilot?), and his lady love April — the splashy sequel moves the action to New York City, where the toothy twister phenomenon amazingly has tailed the triumphant twosome.
