On January 23, 2020, Wuhan was put on lockdown in the face of the sudden epidemic. Xue Xiao-lu, director of “Finding Mr Right” focuses on what happened during the time, through four stories of people from all steps of the social ladder, through an approach, though, that is quite romanticized. Let us take things from the beginning though.
Embrace Again is screening at Asian Pop Up Cinema
A Yong is a courier transferring goods for hospitals, and a volunteer who tries to organize the whole service against many odds, in the process neglecting his son, who still considers him a kind of a hero, and his wife, who is quite frustrated with his choice. Wu Ge delivers food through her motorcycle, which is what eventually gets her acquainted with piano teacher Ye Zi Yang, when she carries him in her motorcycle, and nurse-in-training Xia Xiao, both of which eventually become good friends with her.

Although Chinese New Year 2021 is only two months behind us, new Chinese blockbusters have already begun plotting their takeover of the biggest moviegoing week in the world’s largest film market for 2022.
Four Chinese titles have just announced their plans to debut next Feb. 1, the first day of the 2022 lunar new year. The most high-profile new release announced Friday is former racecar driver and literary bad boy Han Han’s next film, whose Chinese name translates to “The Four Seas.” Two of the four films will star Shen Teng.
This will be the third Chinese new year release for Han, following 2017’s “Duckweed,” which grossed $152 million, and “Pegasus” in 2019, which grossed $256 million. It will star Liu Haoran, Liu Haocun, Shen Teng, Yin Zheng, Zhou Qi, Zhang Youhao, Qiao Shan, Feng Shaofeng, Wang Yanlin and Gao Huayang, and feature special appearances from Huang Xiaoming, Chen Xiaochun, Wan Ziliang and Wu Yanshu.

Hollywood films and local arthouse led the Chinese box office this weekend, with “Jumanji: The Next Level” taking the lead with a $24.7 million debut, while Lou Ye’s Venice title “Saturday Fiction” was abruptly yanked from the lineup of releases.
Remarkably, Diao Yinan’s stylish and bloody neo-noir “Wild Goose Lake” did almost as well as “Jumanji” in its opening weekend, taking $19.4 million to come in second. Starring Hu Ge, Gwei Lun Mei, and Liao Fan, the crime thriller debuted in competition at Cannes in May, but appears to have undergone four minutes of cuts, given the listed 113-minute runtime of the version screening in China.
Disney’s “Frozen 2” came in third with $9.6 million, bringing its cumulative box office in China up to $105 million.

Mandarin-language remake targets Chinese love affair with romantic comedies.
Italian battle of the sexes comedies Men Vs Women and Women Vs Men are to be remade for the Chinese market in a joint project involving Cai Gongming’s Lushang Youhua (Road Pictures) and Italian producer Cristiano Bortone.
Italian filmmaker Fausto Brizzi’s original films (Maschi contro Femmine and Femmine contro Maschi), each consisting of four intertwining stories exploring the battle of the sexes, came out in Italy in 2010 and 2011.
Their light-hearted take on love and gender relations could prove a perfect fit for the Chinese film market where romantic comedies such as Finding Mr. Right, One Night Surprise and So Young have been drawing big audiences over the past year.
Bortone of Orisa Produzioni, which operates in Italy and Germany, negotiated the acquisition of the Mandarin-language remake rights for both films from Frederica Lucisano and Fulvio Lucisano of Italian International Film, who produced...

Tang Wei scores big at the mainland box office with this comedy drama about a spoilt mistress who must hide out in the Us and reconcile her lifestyle when she becomes pregnant with her lover's child. All has been forgiven, it seems, as Tang Wei - once banned from making films in China after her role in Ang Lee's Lust, Caution - has sat comfortably at the top of the box office charts in China for four consecutive weeks with her latest film, Finding Mr. Right. Shot almost entirely in the USA, the film stars Tang as Jiajia, mistress of rich Beijing businessman Mr. Zhong, who is shipped off to Seattle when it is discovered she is pregnant. In order to avoid a scandal back...

Xue Xiaolu's Chinese romantic comedy Finding Mr. Right wants to be an American romantic comedy so badly!
It begins with the Supremes' "Someday We'll Be Together," ends with Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World," and sets a montage to Sarah McLachlan's "Angel" along the way, all without a hint of irony. None of this is a spoiler; remember that the title is Finding Mr. Right, which manages to be both generic and misleading.
The Finder in question is Wen (Tang Wei), a ditzy, rich Chinese woman sent by her sugar daddy to Seattle (portrayed by Vancouver) to give birth, thus circumventing China's one-child policy.
She's not seeking Mr. Right at first, but could it be Frank (Wu Xiubo), the scruffy driver who picks her up at the airport? And as Wen ...

Over the past few weeks, the Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff) began unveiling the films that will feature as part of this year’s festival line-up. Although this year features fewer films from India and the Indian diaspora (not surprising since last year’s focus on Mumbai in the City to City programme gave viewers an incredibly rich line-up of films), there are, still, some wonderful viewing opportunities in store for South Asian film fans at Tiff 2013.
Two Indian films will receive Gala Premieres this year. The festival will present the North American Premiere of The Lunchbox, written and directed by Ritesh Batra. The film, which was well received at this year’s Cannes film festival, traces the unexpected friendship that develops between two strangers, middle-class housewife Ila and lonely office worker Saajan, after a mix up in the delivery of a lunchbox intended for Ila’s husband. As we hit the halfway stage in 2013, I'd like to pause for a moment and take stock of the Asian films I have seen so far this year and throw a little light on my favourites. Of course this isn't an exhaustive list of everything I have seen - or even everything I have liked - after all, I've seen 44 new Asian films already this year. These are just the 10 I liked best...or in this case, the 11 I liked best. 2013 has seen plenty of other, bigger films hit our screens, particularly in China. Xu Zheng's Lost in Thailand, Stephen Chow's Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons, Tang Wei's comeback Finding Mr. Right, Peter Chan's American Dreams in China and Zhao...
