Great acting in this two hander
abwetman-1-8173284 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Set 180 years in the past, the creator of the Beacon project makes a surprise visit to Beacon 23.

This leads to an existential crisis of the meaning of life between the lighthouse keeper played brilliantly by Barbara Hershey, and the creator also greatly acted.

We understand the functioning of Bart short for Bartholomew in the conflict between AI and humans.

The question of trust and family and religious beliefs are throughly examined in reinvention of hippy culture.

The set and pacing are extremely well done with only the concluding scene as the weakest

It leads to why AI and there partners are so tight.

Unexpected

Great script, excellent performance by both Barabara Hershey and Eric Lang. I was not prepared for how deeply they would explore the theme of the episode nor how it ended. I have always been a huge fan of Mr. Lang. How he manages to nab such enigamtic characters and how he brings them to life I don't know. The minute I saw him appear on screen I knew I had better pay attention. I did hope to find out more about how Lena Headey and Steph James ended up as episode three ended on a cliffhanger. More or less. Needless to say, eagerly looking forward to episode 5.

P.s Barbara Hershey is 75?!!! What a knock out!

Intriguing self contained episode
rburch-129-21217829 November 2023
This, so far, has been the best episode of the season. A self contained prequel episode that is incredibly well written and acted. I was genuinely excited to see Barbara Hershey. It will be interesting to see how this story will tie into the remaining season story. Barbara Hershey does an excellent acting job. Her mothering approach to the characters was spot on. The story contains several revelations that I cannot wat to see how they will play out on the current cast of characters. So far I am really enjoying this series. I do hope it will be renewed for a second season as there are so many more stories to tell.

Classic Sci Fi

A classic science fiction episode, like something out of an old magazine like Amazing Stories. A self contained tale that you don't see today when everything in the genre has to be part of an overall story arc. This shows what this series could be, an anthology series tied together by the setting of a lonely beacon in space with a resident AI that may be more insane than its lonely occupants.

The technical inaccuracies in this series are certainly annoying, and I struggled to understand just where the series was going, but the change in perspective this episode brought me gives me hope I may like where this series is going after all.

Great episode

This could have been a stand alone episode. Very well written and well acted. One of the best things I've ever seen Barbara Hershey do. I suppose the two characters as well as the AI characters played well off one another. I was losing faith in this show, but after this episode, I'll continue watching.

It's disappointing that the reviews are required.to be a certain length. The first paragraph is really all that needs to be written concerning my opinion. But I will continue on this second paragraph until the number of characters is satisfied. There is no reason to keep reading beyond the first paragraph and I sincerely apologize if you have gotten this far. This ridiculous policy should be changed.
