Yet even so, it might still come as a surprise to some fans of “Spy x Family” that the show’s first theatrical outing would revolve so heavily around a cooking competition.
It’s not just any cooking competition, mind you. After it looks like spy extraordinaire Loid Forger might be taken off Operation “Strix,” the mission that first brought his found family together, he decides to help his adopted daughter Anya win a coveted prize at Eden Academy, thereby ensuring that the Forgers can stay together for at least a little bit longer. The ever-perceptive Loid quickly realizes that the key to victory lies in making the principal’s favorite meal, a rather “elegant” pastry named Melemele. And so off the...

The majority of the tasty dishes in Delicious in Dungeon are well out of reach—unless you run across a stray kelpie or living armor, of course. It’s already been a good 2024 for anime. Most notably, you have “The Boy and the Heron” winning Best Animated Feature at the Oscars, making for the first anime film to win the prize since another Hayao Miyazaki classic, “Spirited Away,” did so back in 2002. But outside of that big accomplishment, the year has also birthed a ton of great shows already, with a strong winter 2024 season that included great new shows like “Delicious in Dungeon,” “Bucchigiri,” and “Sengoku Youko.”
If Winter 2024 was a great start, Spring 2024 promises to be even more packed. That’s mainly because two of the biggest series currently ongoing are debuting their new seasons this April, the type of blockbuster series even non-anime fans might have heard of. Premiering its seventh season and 139th episode, “My Hero Academia” — an action series about the exploits of students at an academy for superheroes — will release on...

The saga of the four adventurers who have ventured into the dungeon to save Falin progresses steadily, and we now have two episodes in Delicious in Dungeon, where the risk is growing more and more grave. Up until now, the vibe of the show was that nobody could get seriously hurt while fighting the monsters, but I guess we are in the level now where the monsters are too deadly to be taken lightly. Laios and Marcille both almost die in the new episodes. Senshi’s childish side grows more pronounced as he throws a fit and refuses to use Marcille’s magic to cross a few hurdles, and here is a recap to tell you how.
Spoilers Ahead
Why Did Senshi Not Use Marcille’s Magic?

The sixth episode of the weird gluttony-filled anime series Delicious in Dungeon focused on Chilchuck. The kid had been quiet in the background, picking locks and helping the teammates. Marcille, Laios, and Senshi all had one episode dedicated to their fears or interests, but Chilchuck remained a mystery. However, before getting to Chilchuck, the episode explored Laios’ hunger as he went into the Living Paintings to get some food. The results were almost lethal.

How Did Laios Survive The Elf In The Living Painting?
Moving forward in their journey, Senshi realized that it was time for food, but the sad reality was that they were out of food and there were no monsters around. It was a completely empty hallway with just a few paintings on the wall. Laios was of the opinion that it was time to rest, but Marcille’s growling stomach was telling another tale.

As absurd as it is, Delicious in Dungeon grows on you because it is a tale about friendship. We have seen those shows where misfits come together and form bonds, and this one follows a similar narrative trajectory and becomes engaging. The obsession with food on this journey is still a little hard to understand. But the overall gist is that these misfits are on an adventure to save Falin, who is trapped in a dragon’s belly. Meanwhile, there are lots of monsters they have to face, which gives them all the more chance to hone their skills at cooking delicious monster food.
Spoilers Ahead

The group had made it past the third level and was now in even more spooky territory as the number of monsters was going to increase and the intensity with which they fought was going to be challenging.

The third episode of Delicious in Dungeon made Laios the central figure of the episode as we went into his past and figured that he possessed magical features. Strangely, there was just a single conflict in this episode, and that came in the form of Living Armors, which terrified Laios as they were hollow from the inside and had been thought to run magically. Laios hadn’t been able to defeat them earlier, and this time he had a bigger responsibility to overcome them and reach Falin. They were fierce and didn’t stop at anything. The whole episode became a way to show how Laios overcame his phobia of the Living Armors and what the others did when they found the ‘magician’ who was running them.

In the second episode of the new Netflix anime Delicious in Dungeon, we follow the four individuals (very different from each other) who have to rescue Falin, but they have to have the proper ‘diet’ (Senshi’s favorite word) on their way. So what do they do? They have the monster food available in the Dungeon. The Dungeon has several levels, and a Red Dragon had ingested Falin in the previous episode, and she had 30 days before she would begin to be digested in the Red Dragon’s stomach. The creature lurked in the bottommost layer, and Laios, Marcille, and Chilchuck had to make a go to save Falin. They were lucky to get the company of Senshi on the way, who was an artist when it came to cooking monster food.

New Year’s is a time to make resolutions. Maybe you want to work out more, or sort out your love life, or make a big career change. And maybe your resolution is to watch more indie movies, or possibly some anime.
2023 was a banner year for anime as a medium, between great series like “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” and a major film release with Hayao Miyazaki’s last masterpiece “The Boy and the Heron.” As such, 2024’s anime offerings have a lot to live up to — and based on the lineup of shows that are premiering this January, we’re off to a promising start.
As with every season, winter 2024 has both returning favorites as well as new shows to enjoy. One particularly anticipated returnee is the beloved but rarely airing “Blue Exorcist,” which is premiering its third season after its second bowed back in 2017.
