Following his debut as Helmut Zemo in the 2017 film Captain America: Civil War, Daniel Brühl reprised his role in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier alongside Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie. Zemo, who played a pivotal role in pitting the Avengers against each other, was anticipated to reappear in Thunderbolts*, where he is a key figure in the comics, even serving as the team’s leader.

However, Zemo’s absence from the Marvel’s Thunderbolts* cast announcement was disappointing for many, given his close association with the team in comics. Despite the significant snub, Brühl has remained optimistic, as he expressed confidence about his return to the franchise in a recent interview.

Daniel Brühl made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as a reimagined take on Baron Zemo in Captain America: Civil War, before returning for the Disney+ The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series.
Already a somewhat sympathetic villain given everything he went through in Sokovia during the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Zemo put his differences with Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson aside in Tfatws to help them put a stop to the Flag Smashers - though he always had his own schemes in play.
Last we saw of him, he had agreed to return to The Raft to finish out his sentence for killing King T'Chaka in an attempt to frame Barnes for a terrorist attack.
When a Thunderbolts (since retitled Thunderbolts*) movie was announced, it was assumed that Zemo would be involved since he is so closely associated with the supervillain strike team in the comics. Marvel Studios went in a different direction,...

Daniel Brühl has recalled the time he swerved a Karl Lagerfeld cover shoot two decades before playing him in the eponymous Disney+ series that airs out of competition at tonight’s Canneseries.
The BAFTA-nominated Rush star met the fashion icon in the early noughties but it has had a long lasting effect on him, and he was later to discover that this was true in the reverse.
Speaking to Deadline on the day of the Becoming Karl Lagerfeld premiere, the German-Spanish actor detailed how he was taking part in a photo shoot at the Berlinale right after announcing himself on the world stage with his critically-acclaimed performance in Wolfgang Becker’s Good Bye, Lenin!.
“There was this Karl Lagerfeld photo shoot and all the German actors were stood together cramped like sausages and my Spanish pride kicked in, and I just thought, ‘This is embarrassing’,” Brühl explained. “But [Lagerfeld] saw it...

HBO has given a pilot order to the comedy “The Chair Company” from Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin, Variety has confirmed.
Both Robinson and Kanin serve as writers and executive producers on the pilot, with Robinson also set to star. Adam McKay and Todd Schulman will also executive produce via Hyperobject Industries, which is under an overall deal at HBO.
The logline for the series states, “After an embarrassing incident at work, a man (Robinson) finds himself investigating a far-reaching conspiracy.”
Kanin and Robinson are frequent collaborators, beginning with their time together on the writing staff of “Saturday Night Live.” They then went on to co-create the popular Comedy Central series “Detroiters” with Sam Richardson and Joe Kelly (with Robinson and Richardson starring) and the Netflix sketch comedy series “I Think You Should Leave” (with Robinson also starring). When it comes to compelling antagonists in the MCU, it has been a kind of mixed bag, as, for every Killmonger, we have had the likes of Malekith and Whiplash. Fortunately, Daniel Bruhl’s Zemo was one of the more interesting villains the cinematic giant had to offer, who despite lacking any superpower of his own, succeeded in breaking the Avengers.
And while Zemo is still out there in the MCU, Bruhl is seemingly putting his future in the MCU in jeopardy with his upcoming HBO show The Franchise.

Billy Magnussen always understands the assignment. Whatever the medium or genre, the actor manages to stand out with an impressive range. He has literally played a Disney prince — twice! — in the film versions of “Into the Woods” and “Aladdin.” He earned a Tony nomination for his role as a dimwitted young lover in “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” and has stood out in ensemble films like “Game Night” and “The Big Short.”
But Magnussen also excels at playing the bad guy, such as the tech billionaire who installs a tracking device in his ex-wife in “Made for Love” to a Nazi officer in “The Survivor.” But never more deliciously than in “Road House,” a reimaging of the 1989 Patrick Swayze classic. The new version, hitting Amazon Prime Video this week, stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a former UFC fighter who becomes a bouncer at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys.

Armando Iannucci and Steve Coogan will collaborate once again for a stage adaptation of Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove. The play is set to premiere at London’s Noel Coward Theatre on October 8th, 2024.
Marking the first-ever adaptation of a Kubrick film, Iannucci is teaming with Sean Foley, who will co-direct the production. Like Peter Sellers did in the 1964 movie, Coogan will portray multiple roles in the play. Known in full as Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, Kubrick’s Cold War satire follows an Air Force general who orders a preemptive nuclear attack on the Soviet Union.
Sellers played three roles in the film: Group Captain Lionel Mandrake, fictional President Merkin Muffley, and Dr. Strangelove, the former Nazi who serves as Muffley’s scientific advisor. Both Sellers and Kubrick were nominated for Academy Awards for the landmark black comedy.
