The Nation's Favourite Bee Gees Song
jboothmillard29 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I have listened to many of this band's best songs, but I had always wondered whether I knew or would want to listen to any of their other popular tracks, so this documentary countdown programme was a good opportunity to see what else they did. The Bee Gees, consisting of the three Gibb brothers, Barry, Maurice and Robin, were one of the greatest bands in the genre of pop, rock, soul and disco music, especially during the 1960's and 1970's, and this show counted down the best songs they have given us, as voted for by the public. But it wasn't just tracks they had sung and performed themselves, the Bee Gees were also credited as fantastic song writers, and the list also includes the best of their hits written for other artists. Of course if you are a fan of the film Saturday Night Fever, all the best songs featured in the film are listed as well. The listed songs are: "Guilty" – written for Barbra Streisand, dueting with Barry Gibb, "Chain Reaction" – written for Diana Ross, "Nights On Broadway", "Run To Me", "You Should Be Dancing", "Jive Talking'", "Immortality" – written for Celine Dion, "To Love Somebody", "Too Much Heaven", "Tragedy", "I've Got To Get A Message To You", "Islands In The Stream" – written for Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart", "Night Fever", "More Than A Woman" – also performed by Tavares, "Stayin' Alive", "Words" – also performed by Elvis Presley and Boyzone, "Massachusetts", "You Win Again", and a good number one with "How Deep Is Your Love" – also performed by Take That. Narrated by Amanda Holden, with contributions from Paul Gambaccini, Adam Garcia, Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb, David Grohl, Mick Hucknall, Sir Elton John, Ronan Keating, Beverly Knight, Katie Melua, Sir Tim Rice, Sir Cliff Richard, Neil Sedaka and Sharleen Spiteri. Very good!
