For What It Is . . .
Just to play devil's advocate to Tad Pole, if you go and watch their YouTube version, you'll see that they had two weeks to write the script and shoot and edit the entire project, along with providing a few elements which the contest had required (a body of water, an umbrella, dancing, and a line: "where are you going?" - which a feat of its own, if you think about it.
As opposed to what Tad Pole (I'm guessing that's not his real name) had said, Animus has a very simple plot: a guy does one more heist after getting out of prison for his old wife/girlfriend. It's edited in a way which makes the plot seem more complex, but if you pull the curtains, you'll see the story of a man's bad decisions and what it costs him in the end.
As for the remark about friends and family giving this film a bad 3.3/10. Actually, friend's and family gave it a 9.7/10. A top 1,000 IMDb reviewer gave it a 1/10 - which made the score a 3.3/10 because their votes count more. And they didn't even watch it :P The only bad I can find in this is that it can be a little shaky from time to time, especially when the main character gets out of the place he robbed and the getaway driver is in his car, waiting. And then the chase sequence. Even though I applaud the extended take, it was a bit too shaky. There would have been probably MORE cinematic energy or whatever it's called if it was toned down a bit.
Other than that, for what it was, it was solid as stone.
