Warning: contains spoilers for Doctor Who: “The Star Beast” and “Wild Blue Yonder”.
The Doctor is Back, complete with the face of the Tenth incarnation and that Doctor’s best companion, Donna Noble! However, as seen at the end of the second Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Special “Wild Blue Yonder,” the Doctor and Donna aren’t coming back to the world as they left it. The joy of being reunited with Donna’s grandad Wilf (Bernard Cribbins) quickly melts away at the sight of a world gone mad: shopkeepers duking it out with their customers, carts exploding into flames, and an airplane falling from the sky.
That’s quite a setup for the third and final Doctor Who Anniversary Special, “The Giggle.” And while the special doesn’t come layered in the same amount of secrecy as “Wild Blue Yonder,” viewers may have some questions. Fortunately, we’re here to clear up any confusion,...

This post contains spoilers for Doctor Who: The Star Beast
The first Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Special may have brought back David Tennant and Catherine Tate, and even adapted a comic book story from 1980. But make no mistake, the special takes the Doctor into new territory, at least in the United States.
The first special “The Star Beast” dropped on its usual home at the BBC in the UK, but it debuted on Disney+ for the rest of the world. The same will be true of the next two specials, “Wild Blue Yonder” and “The Giggle,” preparing the way for the show’s fourteenth season since the 2004 reboot, which will air eight episodes across 2024.
The Story Thus Far
As the Doctor himself puts it in the most recent Children in Need special, he was this brilliant woman and now he’s back wearing an old face. In more complicated terms,...

There has never been so much behind-the-scenes BBC coverage of Doctor Who. “The Star Beast” ran for a single hour, but already has an in-episode commentary from David Tennant and producers Phil Collinson and Vicki Delow, a half-hour instalment of companion show Doctor Who: Unleashed, plus a half-hour official accompanying podcast. And that’s on top of all the interviews, features and in-depth looks from Doctor Who Magazine. Seekers of nerdy insights – our cup runneth seriously over.
For each of the three anniversary specials, and then continuing through Christmas 2023 and series fourteen, we can watch the episode, watch it again with the commentary, listen to the podcast and catch up with Steffan Powell’s exclusive Unleashed coverage. Do all that and you’ll probably need some kind of energy drink and a biscuit, but the fun titbits below are a taste of what you can glean.

We've known for a while that the new, huge special episodes of Doctor Who will air at some point starting in November, but the BBC has until now kept quiet as to exact transmission dates. Well, the Beeb (and Disney+ for those outside the UK and Ireland) has finally let the cat out of the Tardis, with word that the first special, The Star Beast will arrive on screens on 25 November. Yes, that's two days after the show's actual anniversary on 23 November, but a prime Saturday evening slot.
The other two specials, Wild Blue Yonder and The Giggle follow on 2 and 9 December respectively. The new specials see David Tennant back in the role of the Doctor (though this time the official 14th incarnation rather than the 10th) alongside Catherine Tate, back as Donna Noble.
And they'll have to deal with a fresh take on classic villain the Toymaker, played here by Neil Patrick Harris.
