There's an unusual level of seriousness at play in 'Jake vs. Me-Mow' that's subverted by weapons-grade cuteness. To begin with, I love that they cast Maria Bamford as Wildberry Princess (a character that's hardly ever seen); she's perfect, but they didn't even have to find a "name" actor for this part.
But the character of Me-Mow - a deadly assassin - is a tiny cat; one who ends up making things pretty grim for Jake, sure, but really just a little kitten. And the kid playing that part is just beyond adorable (case in point, when Me-Mow hides herself in Jake's nose: "Blech! It smells like warm garbage up in here!").
"Adventure Time" is at its best when it's really just about Finn and Jake as brothers, and that's how this turns out. It gets pretty dark there at the eleventh hour, and Finn puts himself through some sizable grief for his best bud. That's a bond you just don't mess with.
