This is the first film written and directed by Brian Byers.
The original film concept was to have the little girl interact with the main character. However, during the shoot, she got tired and refused to go near Pot (Lonzo Liggins), which is why the dream sequence was added.
The dream sequence was an accident because most of those shots are from cameraman Scott Warrens' home movies. The crew used them, which gave the film an obscure back story.
While shooting the cop car scene, when the main character Pot (Lonzo Liggins) runs out of the store with a gun and is picked up by the police car in the shot, it terrified and panicked two missionaries who were getting gas, not knowing that it was only a film.
