Britney Spears has been teasing a new album for months, and for a hot second we almost thought a release date was nigh. But alas, no such luck. The singer instead announced she will release another greatest-hits album.
Spears has a few of those already. The first, "Greatest Hits: My Prerogative," arrived in 2004 following the singer's fourth album, "In the Zone." A remix compilation came the following year, and in 2009 "The Singles Collection" updated the previous best-of anthology. We received another remix effort in 2011, and now a third greatest-hits project is set. Anyone spot the trend?
No need to fear too much, though -- Spears says she's still hard at work on her eighth studio album. The singer tweeted Thursday night that it's on the horizon.
It's coming sooner than you think ;) But this album is for my diehard fans so it needs to be perfect!!!! http://t.co/OMTlLGMyuI...

Ooh la la, it's a new song from Britney Spears.
Spears' new original song from the "The Smurfs 2" soundtrack has leaked online. The film is due in theaters July 31.
"Ooh La La" is heavy with auto-tune and includes a bridge and chorus that sound more like a Katy Perry record than a traditional sex-crazed Spears song -- which makes sense, given it's recorded for a children's movie. Another reason the song has a distinct Perry vide is perhaps because it was co-written by Bonnie McKee, who previously penned "California Gurls" and "Teenage Dream," among others. To top it off, Perry herself co-stars in "The Smurfs 2" alongside Neil Patrick Harris, Hank Azaria and Sofia Vergara.
"Ooh La La" marks the first solo song Spears has released since 2011's "Criminal," which was met with only paltry success after "Hold It Against Me" and "Till the World Ends" both went platinum.

Britney Spears wants to even the score. There's no doubt that the "Criminal" singer loves and adores her sons, Sean, 7, and Jayden, 6. But as she revealed to Extra's Mario Lopez recently, she wouldn't mind having another girl on the home team. During a chat about Spears' career, fitness routine, and family, the Extra host mentioned that he was "very jealous" that the former X Factor judge, 31, had boys. (He and wife Courtney Lopez have a 2-year-old daughter, Gia, and another baby on the way.) [...]...

I swear you all, Felicity is a lesbian. She just has to be. Emily Bett Rickards has shown herself to be an amazingly talented actress, so there's no way her ambivalent look when she watches Oliver doing shirtless exercises is a mistake. She is so not into him, at all.
Which is awesome, of course. I love that we're not wasting screen time on some very tired and boring unrequited love thing. Maybe the writers realized that Felicity is so much more popular than Laurel that if they made her the third leg in a love triangle, absolutely no one would be rooting for Ms. Lance.
Anyhoo, Oliver is feeling antsy. Now that he is not getting laid anymore (in spite of numerous not-so-veiled offers from Tommy and a few direct looks from Digg) he is really eager to go back out and kill people.
John Nichel is our latest target.

Britney Spears's ex-fiancé Jason Trawick reportedly signed a confidentiality agreement prohibiting him from speaking about their relationship to the press. Sources have revealed that Trawick was approached by the singer's team when he became co-conservator, TMZ reports. The pair announced their split earlier this week, but are said to be remaining close friends after a "friendly break-up". Spears began dating Trawick in 2009 before announcing their engagement in December 2011. Trawick famously appeared alongside Spears in the music video for her 2011 single 'Criminal'. Since the split was announced on Friday (January 11), it has been rumoured that the pair called off their engagement because Trawick did not want (more)...

Melanie Martinez’s first crack at covering “Toxic” started as a joke. “My friends were like, ‘You should learn a Britney Spears song’ — because I’m so different from that,” recalls the 17-year-old contestant on Season 3 of The Voice. “So I started singing ‘Toxic’ one day, did different little things to it and that’s how my version came around. It was kind of a random process.”
Melanie used that ehtereal, stripped-down rendition of Spears’ danceable pop hit for her Voice Blind Audition, and made a memorable first impression on the coaches and the viewing audience. “I’m really happy...

America voted to send Melanie home last night on 'The Voice,' keeping the adorable singer out of the top four, but I think it was a giant mistake! Read on for my reasons why and let me know if you agree! The Voice has had its share of surprising eliminations this season, but none of them were more shocking or unfair than Melanie Martinez's cut from the competition on the Dec. 4 results show! The youngest and most artistic of the challengers should have made it further! From the minute Melanie hit the stage for her blind audition back in September, it was clear that she was something special. Performing Britney Spears' "Toxic" in a way that no one ever has before, the 17-year-old made her mark on the competition. The way she turned the hit song on its head, performing it as a smoky, jazzy torch burner was so inventive.

The X Factor USA is on an upswing for its second season. Is it that the auditions are better, or did the panel greatly improve? Maybe a little bit of both, but Britney Spears's perpetually raised eyebrow and propensity for amazing commentary have certainly helped. Tonight, more hopefuls take to the stage hoping to impress the 'Criminal' singer, as well as her fellow panelists La Reid, Demi Lovato and, of course, Simon Cowell. Will we find any superstars tonight? You'll have to join Digital Spy live from 8/7c to find out!

Simon Cowell has said that he is "fascinated" by Britney Spears on The X Factor USA. The music mogul revealed that Spears, who signed a $$15m (£9.6m) deal to join the Fox singing competition's judging panel in May, has a "shy" side that fans may not expect. "She's not on the show to be Britney Spears on a TV show," Cowell told People of the 'Criminal' singer. She's taken the role really seriously." > 'X Factor' USA's Simon Cowell: 'The Voice knows (more)...

Mariah Carey doesn't care that Britney Spears is to be a judge on the new series of 'X Factor' USA. Spears' former agent-turned-paramour petitioned the Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this month to become the pop star's co-conservator. He will share the responsibility with Spears' father, Jamie Spears, who has maintained legal control of his daughter since February 2008.
According to People magazine, Spears' father is delighted with the court's decision. "Jamie's thrilled," attorney Geraldine Wyle told reporters following the hearing, referring to Spears' father. "It's all in the family."
Wyle also made a point to clarify the fact that the request to add Trawick as co-conservator came at Britney's request, not her father's. The 41-year-old...

A very Happy Sunday to everyone! This week we bring you an Edward and Bella themed video from sklost’s channel and is titled Criminal II || Edward & Bella and features Criminal by Britney Spears.
Words can’t say enough how I truly adore this video. The theme is simple yet hits a chord for all of us who vouch for Edward and Bella belonging to each other. I love the emphasis on their initial attraction in Twilight, how the ever self-deprecating Edward tried to fight it yet he was helpless against Bella’s determination not to view him as a predator but consider him as an individual and treat him as one and of course cherishing his true worth.
Despite the trials and tribulations they faced in New Moon and Eclipse, their love prevailed and we all rejoiced when they were finally united as man and wife in Breaking Dawn. This video reminded us that Bella was not the only one who got her happily ever after, indeed it was as much Edward’s for he was the one who waited a hundred years for his true love. It took a special individual like Bella Swan to bring finally bring happiness and fulfillment to Edward Cullen. They are truly deserving of each other and happiest when together. Britney Spears’ Criminal seems fitting for this video and the Edward and Bella’s voice-overs just added on to its perfection!
What do you think of this video? Did it resonate as much with you as it did with me?...

Britney Spears has reportedly requested a one-year "out clause" to judge The X Factor USA. The 'Criminal' singer was rumoured to have refused a $$10 million (£6.4 million) offer to join the judging panel on the Fox talent competition, after reaching the final stages of contract talks. Britney Spears and Fergie are allegedly going head-to-head! They might be facing off in a bid to join The X Factor, rather than competing in some kind of fabulous Beyond The Thunderdome dance-off like we’d prefer, but still! We’ll take it. Us Weekly reports that the Black Eyed Peas chanteuse and the Criminal singer are both vying for a spot at the judges table alongside Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid. Does that mean Beyonce won’t be getting $500 million to join the panel? Or is Simon just going to take out a personal loan from the World Bank to hire all of the divas? Honestly, it would not surprise us.
Our two cents? Fergie and Britney Spears would both be excellent judges; combined, they have about 50 years of show business experience. If other rumored candidates like Janet Jackson or Bey join the judging panel, however, we’re going...

While news of celebrity breakups tends to dominate the headlines, here in the MTV Newsroom, we’re most thankful for the lucky few who stick it out and show us that even in the hectic world of Hollywood, where temptation lurks behind every palm tree, true love conquers all.
Just look at our Favorite Celebrity Couples of 2011!
Whether they are relative newbies to the scene, like Justin Bieber, whose girlfriend Selena Gomez stood firmly beside him as he weathered a (pretty silly) paternity scandal, or established industry veterans like Jay-z and Beyonce, who after almost four years of marriage (and nearly a decade as a couple) decided to take the next step and are getting ready for their first baby, we love it when a celebrity couple has each other’s back.
Two other happy couples also took a big step in 2011: Britney Spears and Jason Trawick and Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose.

It's true -- Britney Spears will be walking down the aisle again! Brit announced on Dec. 16 that Jason Trawick, her boyfriend of three years, finally popped the question, and of course, she said yes.
So who, exactly, is Jason Trawick?
The 40-year-old talent manager used to represent Britney (and Hilary Duff, and Taylor Swift, and Paris Hilton) for William Morris Endeavor. He began representing Britney in 2006, and they started dating publicly in 2009. This year, he got a new gig running Mick Jagger's F*Star arts & entertainment at Famos LLC. Before he was at Wme, he worked for the New York Daily News.
He's credited with helping Britney get her head above water (at least professionally) after her very public meltdown -- he secured her a guest-starring gig on "How I Met Your Mother" that began to shift public opinion of her in a more positive direction.

Months ago, rumors began circulating that Britney Spears and longtime boyfriend Jason Trawick were going to tie the knot. And on Friday (December 16), sources close to the pair and a mysterious tweet from the star herself confirmed that the couple is engaged.
Trawick had already been working with the star as her agent at William Morris Endeavor Entertainment when they began dating in 2009. Earlier this month, we were swooning all over the place about Britney Spears and her big 30th birthday. We even held a weeks-long March Madness-style tournament to find out which of her thirty-plus videos was the fan favorite. Ultimately, after nearly a million votes were cast (thanks again, y'all!) the winner was "I'm A Slave 4 U."
So that's settled.
What's not settled is which of her fantastic videos from just this year is your favorite. We decided to dedicate this week to finding out which 2011 videos by MTV Newsroom blog favorite artists were tops. So far we've opened up polling for Katy Perry and Taylor Swift (don't forget to vote! We'll let you know all of the results on Monday!). Now, it's B's turn.
Britney had a big year in 2011. She had yet another No. 1 record, Femme Fatale, which is arguably her best album to date. Fatale has yielded more...

Happy 30th Birthday Britney Spears To celebrate the birth of one of the greatest pop stars ever, I have taken it upon myself to choose and rank the 30 Best Britney Spears Songs Of All Time. This is my opus to Brit-Brit and I hope you enjoy it, study it, debate it with friends or family, and leave your own opinions to her Greatest Songs in our comments section. There’s a lot to get to, so let’s kick things off with #30: 30. “Lucky” (link) “Lucky” is the Britney Spears version of telling your doctor about sexual questions you have: “So yeah, a friend of mine… um… Lucky… was wondering if you can get pregnant on a sex swing. My friend.” See, in this song, “Lucky” is the name of a world famous star, who has everything: Money and fame… but no love. I believe this phrasing in the chorus...

It's hard to imagine a time without the ubiquity of Britney Spears, when tabloids didn't dissect her dating life or catch phrases didn't begin with "Oops, I ..." or "I'm not a girl, not yet ..."
The former Mickey Mouse Club child star skyrocketed to international infamy with 1999's "Hit Me Baby One More Time" and instantly iconic music video; an ascent to the pop princess title together with boyfriend Justin Timberlake seemed only inevitable. For a moment, Spears seemed on top of the world -- the most searched person on the internet in 2003 and America's sweetheart. But what a dramatic past 13 years it's been: from impromptu weddings in Vegas to K-Fed, the birth of her two children and her head-shaving, her spectacular, sparkly is-she-nude 2000 Vma performance and her baffling, world-weary showing seven years later, to the Vma Vanguard Award she received this year and subsequent tribute -- we've lived it through it all with Britney.
