Well Done

It's pretty clear that this was made on a tight budget, but it is a perfect example of how an interesting idea, utilized by people who know what they are doing can be very effective, even on a low budget. We've seen the story through a Zombies eyes before in 'Colin' but this is such a beautiful little short, that benefits from it's crisp visuals and haunting score. The central performance is as subtle as one can be playing a flesh eating zombie, and Michael Weatherbee should be commended for that.

I'd be interested to see what Chris Russell can do with a longer format, but on the evidence of this, more work from him would be surely welcomed.

Absurd yes, but not really entertaining

Warning: Spoilers
"Zombie in a Penguin Suit" is basically exactly what the title says: a 7-minute short film that could take place in the world of "The Walking Dead" and we see a zombie who wears a penguin costume for whatever reason. The writer and director is Chris Russell and he also appears briefly in this one. The penguin guy is played by somebody else though. He is apparently pretty lucky as all the zombie surrounding him get shot, but he doesn't and always gets away apparently, maybe because people do not take him seriously as a danger because of his stupid looks. Oh well, it is a bit of a freak show I must admit. Unfortunately, the makeup isn't that great. You could easily see, especially at the ending, that he is wearing a mask in his face. All in all, only worth a watch for the biggest zombie movie fans. Apart from the absurdity, this little film brings nothing really new to the screen. Not recommended.

Review for Zombie in a Penguin Suit (2011)

I loved the baseline story with no dialog of this short. Made you have a strong compassion for the ghoul penguin guy. Very nicely done edits and visuals. It is amazing how much emotion can be expressed with a low budget movie when you get the right group of individuals together. This is a perfect example of that. It seems that there is a new interest in zombie related entertainment (like the series "The Walking Dead") and this short gave me the same internal feeling of watching a great 7 minute section of that series. My hat goes off to the producers, the actors and the cast who made this movie short. I highly recommend watching it, it is a well worth 7 minutes of your time..
