The plot shows the plot against king Gustavus III as being comprised of mostly people of the lower and middle strata of society. In reality resistance against the king was almost exclusively carried out by the nobility due to the king removing many of their privileges. The king had taken dictatorial control of Sweden in a coup banking on discontent how the Swedish parliament had run the country since the abolishment of absolute monarchy. The king was actually quite popular among the lower classes as he had performed several reforms such as the prohibition of torture and reinstated the right of farmers to hunt on their own land.
Peter Eggers (Johan Gustav Dåådh) and Joel Spira (Simon Freund) both sport a highly anachronistic 3-day stubble throughout, whilst the others are thoroughly shaved. They maintain this look, every day even if it would have been hard to look so unkempt, as they're beards do not grow.
Some other things as depicting most poor people as dirty even at nighttime is absolutely wrong. Most people bathed weekly, and all washed daily.
People in dirty lines of work would bathe daily after work.
