Warning: Spoilers
Pickpocket Kylie (a strong and credible performance by striking brunette Elitsa Bako) returns home after a night of robbing bar patrons. She expects to party with her boyfriend Matt (a solid portrayal by Matthew Carvery). However, Matt's sinister surprise guests have another decidedly nasty idea instead. You see, Matt owes them 50,000 dollars and they want to collect it any way they can. Writer/director Jonathan Robbins does an ace job of creating and sustaining an extremely tense and edgy mood. Moreover, Robbins warrants bonus praise for eschewing sentiment in favor of raw grit (for example, Matt offers Kylie to the thugs as a means of payment without showing any regret or hesitation for a second). The able acting from a sturdy cast rates as another major asset. Bako in particular excels in the lead role; she brings an arresting blend of toughness and sexiness to the fascinatingly scrappy character of Kylie. Buzz Hoffman likewise impresses with his scary turn as intimidating hoodlum Hatchet Man. The sharp cinematography, harsh profane dialogue, and a neatly varied soundtrack further add to the overall sound quality of this interesting show. Well worth a watch.
