- At home, Cameron walks up to the table holding snow globes and shakes up one with a figure of Stargirl inside. He breathes a flume of frost, freezing the globe, and his eyes glow white. He drops the globe and his grandparents come in and tell him it will take time for him to learn how to control his powers. They lead Cameron off.
At the Whitmore house, Courtney is lying on her bed. The Staff floats in and wakes her, and then guides her to the window, puts itself in her hand, and flies off. It takes her to the Gambler's trailer and directs her attention to Sylvester, who is unconscious. Courtney takes Sylvester to the hospital along with Pat, and Dr. Chapel checks him and says that he's stable but in bad shape, with contusions all over his body and an unusual puncture wound, like the wound that went through Gambler's heart. Chapel doesn't know what caused the injury. She says that she reported the injuries as consistent with a hit and run, and Pat says that they'll take care of it. Chapel has realized there's a cost to being a superhero. Pat agrees, and the doctor goes to call Beth.
Once they're alone, Pat figures that Sylvester went there on his own because that's how he does things, and he didn't take the Staff because it wasn't his turn.
Once they find out what happened to Sylvester, Rick calls Yolanda and they wonder if whoever killed Gambler is after them. Yolanda's mother comes into her room and Yolanda hangs up. Yolanda claims Maria called her to ask her to work her shift the next night. The mother asks Yolanda told anyone her husband lost his job, and Yolanda assures her she didn't. Once her mother leaves, Yolanda closes her bedroom door and takes the Wildcat mask out from under her bed.
At the hospital, Courtney sits at Sylvester's beside. He wakes up and groans, and she explains to him what happened. Sylvester says that he didn't see his attacker, and figures their killer is very strong. He says that he went to the trailer park looking for new clues, and he didn't think the killer would be there. Sylvester says that it wasn't his turn to take the Staff, and Courtney tells him that they have to rethink their agreement. Courtney tells him to take the Staff if he needs it, if she isn't around. Pat comes in and says that he called someone who could help them, and Dr. Charles McNider comes in and greets Sylvester.
At the ISA headquarters, the killer watches them on a hidden CCTV.
Charles examines Sylvester's injuries, and reports that Sylvester is healing remarkably fast. He explains that Sylvester came back from the dead because the Staff imbued Sylvester with its cosmic energy, and the energy healed Sylvester over the years. Jennie, Alan Scott's daughter, became a living lantern, and Sylvester absorbed the energy from the Staff. Charles says that his son Stanley keeps him busy, along with the clinic, and he's gotten more satisfaction from passing his mantle onto the next generation. Sylvester admits that he hasn't passed on his legacy, but is glad Charles is happy. Charles asks Sylvester if he's happy, and Sylvester doesn't answer.
At the trailer park, the JSA examine the trailer looking for clues, but find nothing. Shiv says that if she had been the killer, she wouldn't have let Sylvester live. Midnite finds a single skin cell with her goggles, and confirms they belong to whoever attacked Sylvester.
At the Xxx manor, Cameron sits alone in his room. His grandparents come in and bring Cameron tea to cam him, and they tell him that he needs to put his art away for now.
At the Whitmore house, Pat brings Sylvester to the basement and tells him that they've restocked it. Pat tells Sylvester that the new JSA is out looking for his attacker. Sylvester is unhappy that he's been ambushed for the first time, and Pat tells him that Blue Valley isn't like other towns. He says that Charles is moving on, while he doesn't have a career or a family. Pat tells his friend that he's spent his life protecting people, and he does have a family with the Whitmore, all for them. Sylvester wonders if he should be Starman anymore, and Pat tells him that he's a legend.
Beth meets Charles at the garage, analyzes the skin sample, and confirms that it's non-human. Charles recalls one of the JSA's old enemies having similar results: Dragon King.
The next day at school, Beth tells the others what she and Charles found out. Beth figures that they should tell Cindy, but Rick and Yolanda disagree. Courtney tells them that she saw in the Shadowlands how Cindy was abused by her father, and she would never work for him. She then realizes that none of them have seen Cindy.
In the old ISA headquarters, Cindy moans in pain as her limbs contort.
Once Courtney tells Mike what they've learned, he meets with Jakeem in the school restroom. Mike suggests that Dragon King could still be in tunnels, and Gambler found out and why he was killed. Jakeem refuses to go down into the tunnels, but Mike figures they can prove themselves. He has Jakeem wish for STRIPE's keys, and the room is filled with thousands of keys.
Barbara meets with her coworkers and presents her proposal for a new park. She's surprised when Tim enthusiastically supports her proposal, then goes to get her coffee. Barbara goes to her office and finds Paula waiting, Paula asks about Tim, then gives Barbara a gift of a stuffed wolverine that she says she made it herself to show she cares. Barbara says that she loves it.
In the Whitmore basement, Pat and Sylvester watch a Western. Larry comes in, saying the door was open, and Sylvester summons the Staff to his hand. Larry says that he and Paula didn't attack Sylvester, and he brought beer. Pat points out that Charles told Sylvester not drink. When Larry admits that Starman used to his kick his and his wife's butts and Starman was the toughest JSAer. Sylvester tosses him a beer and invites him to watch the movie with them. Larry enthusiastically accepts.
Courtney sees Cameron it the school art room and approaches him. He tells her that he's quitting art class, and it's time to admit that the artistic side of him is gone. Courtney tells him that he's been through a lot, and insists that she can help him. Cameron says that she can't and release a blast of ice from his body, then stares at his hands in shock.
Courtney takes Cameron to the gym and has him sit on a stool, and asks if he's okay. He's surprised that she's not scared, and says that his grandparents call it cyrokinesis. The Mahkents have had it for generations to help people, and Cameron's grandparents want him to do the same and carry on his father's legacy. Cameron says his father was killed, but his grandparents won't tell him how. He figures his father died trying people, and he's been avoiding Courtney so he wouldn't hurt her. Courtney says that she's not afraid.
Sylvester goes out on the porch to drink, and Pat comes out to join his friend. They joke about Larry, and Pat asks Sylvester how he's feeling. Sylvester talks about how when he first got the Staff, and figures there's nothing sadder than an old man clinging to his glory days. He figures that he should leave Starman in the past, and all he's done since he's arrived in Blue Valley was screw up. Pat tells his friend that Courtney has learned balance from Sylvester, and suggests Sylvester be a mentor to the new JSA. He goes inside, then comes back with Sylvester's Starman costume that he made recently. Sylvester says that he doesn't know, and Pat tells him if he isn't retiring yet, then neither is Sylvester. After a moment, his friend says that they should do it.
Cameron and Courtney walk down Main Street.
In the basement, Sylvester looks at his costume. Rick and Yolanda come in, confirm Courtney isn't there, and tell Sylvester they were going to check the tunnels for Dragon King. The older man says that he'll come with them.
In the park, Cameron tells Courtney that his mural in town was the last thing he could pain. She suggests he express how he feels with his cyrokinesis, and assures him that he's not alone. Cameron wonders how she can be so calm about his revelation. Courtney hesitates to tell him the truth, and says that she's no afraid he'll hurt her because he's kind and sweet. She says that she's embraced the love and care she has for others, and Cameron should do the same. Courtney assures Cameron he won't hurt her again, and Cameron focuses and releases his cold energy, creating a gentle snowstorm. Courtney laughs and says that it's magical, and Cameron says that it's like her. They take each other's hands and kiss.
At the ISA headquarters, Cindy moans in pain and looks at her skin, which is manifesting scales. She knocks the beakers off the table in front of her in rage.
