Femme Fatales (TV Series)
Libra (2012)
Adam Huss: Max Bailey
Quotes
-
Max Bailey : You thought I wouldn't know where you were going?
Libra : You shouldn't be here.
Max Bailey : Neither should you. Being anywhere near Olesky right now is a very bad idea.
Libra : Yeah, and you need to let me be. Let me take him down.
Max Bailey : Are you trying to get yourself killed? You try and get in there, and you're dead. Libra is a fictional comic book character. Somehow, I don't think the author based his stories on your real-life exploits. You're not Libra.
Libra : He let my mother die. Some kidnappers took her for some easy score. They tried to ransom her back. $5 million. They wanted $5 million. Pocket change for my father. He told them to go screw themselves. Refused to pay a dime. Cops found her a couple of days later -- raped and mutilated. We had to have a closed casket. He didn't even come to the funeral -- too busy screwing one of his harlots.
Max Bailey : You're Anya Olesky?
Libra : No. I'm Libra. And these streets are mine. And tonight, Dimitri Olesky will pay for the blood that he has spilled.
-
Max Bailey : I was... I was surprised you got that Socetti case dismissed. Even Dimitri thought he was going downhill for that one... especially after Homeland Security got involved.
Norma Swanson : Well, I had some help on that. And Dimitri spread a lot of cash to make it go away.
Max Bailey : Help, huh? So Olesky does have a mole in Special Investigations. Any idea who it is?
Norma Swanson : Not a clue. Since when are you so nosy? Anyway, it's a good thing he does. I can't keep blowing big cases every week without someone catching on.
Max Bailey : You ever think what if you hadn't started taking bribes? With Burke and Bannion dead, you really could've amounted to something in this town.
Norma Swanson : Careful, darling. I'll be something in this town because I can be bought. They got off cheap with Burke... but with me, they're gonna pay retail.
-
Max Bailey : Well, you got your revenge. I guess we both did. Now what?
Libra : It's not about us anymore. There's a lot of people suffering in Cuesta Verde. People who have no one to help them. Cuesta Verde needs a symbol. A champion for the oppressed.
Max Bailey : You know anyone for the job?
Libra : I might.
Max Bailey : That was a rhetorical question.
Libra : I can't do this all by myself. I need a Robin.
Max Bailey : A Robin? Your very own Boy Wonder? I don't think so.
Libra : Ah, come on. You'd look hot in tights.
Max Bailey : We'll see, Anya.
Libra : The name's Libra, and these streets are mine.
-
The Detective : You're telling me that some chick named Libra, dressed in black spandex and wearing a Halloween mask, saved your life and took you back to her secret hideout, like some kind of comic book superhero?
Max Bailey : It wasn't spandex. It was leather. And she is a comic book superhero. At least she thinks she is.
The Detective : [chuckles] Well, please, don't let me interrupt. Continue.
-
Max Bailey : Where am I, lady?
Libra : The name's not "Lady". It's Libra.
Max Bailey : Okay, nice to meet you, um... Libra. My name is Max...
Libra : Max Bailey. I know. I've had Olesky's place under surveillance for weeks.
Max Bailey : Are you a cop?
Libra : You never know. But mostly just a concerned citizen. Same as you.
Max Bailey : That's the first time anyone's ever called me that.
Libra : Your father worked for Olesky. They were partners until Olesky cut him out of the business. When your father started to talk, Olesky had him killed.
[removes her mask]
Libra : You want revenge... just like I do. But instead of wearing a mask, you're helping the police. You're looking for Olesky's mole in Special Investigations.
Max Bailey : Yeah; Do you know who that is?
Libra : [removes her utility belt and drops it on the floor] Not yet.
Max Bailey : Look, I need to report in. Tomorrow night Olesky's having a sit-down with the other bosses.
Libra : That's right.
[removes her evening gloves]
Libra : I plan on being there.
Max Bailey : Who are you? I mean, nobody names their kid "Libra".
Libra : We're on the same team, Max. We just wear different uniforms.
[stares Max in the face]
Libra : Do I frighten you?
Max Bailey : Isn't that the idea?
Libra : There's a reason you should be frightened of me.
[removes her costume and reveals her body to Max]
Libra : Before, I was just a woman. But gangsters aren't scared by women. They use them, exploit them, manipulate them. But Libra... she's a symbol. Someone that they can't bribe, scare or seduce. And the scales of justice always tip in Libra's favor. But right now, I'm not Libra. I'm just a woman.
Max Bailey : You're beautiful.
Libra : Thank you, Max Bailey.
[kisses Max on the lips]
Libra : So what do you know about Libras? Hmm?
Max Bailey : Ask me later.
Libra : Uh-huh.
Max Bailey : I'm still learning.
Libra : Yeah? Well... for one, we loathe cruelty, viciousness and vulgarity. But we believe in compassion and compromise.
Max Bailey : Doesn't sound like you.
Libra : You know what else? We like to be touched.
Max Bailey : Oh.
Libra : That leg isn't gonna give you trouble now, is it?
Max Bailey : No, I'll manage.
Libra : That's what I thought.
