- Special Agent Sheryll Barnes: Hey, Nina. What's up?
- Special Agent Nina Chase: All hell's breaking loose at the NRO. Two snipers are outside shooting at everybody they see.
- Special Agent Sheryll Barnes: [horrified] What? Where's Remy?
- Special Agent Nina Chase: He and Ray are engaged. SWAT's on the way, and there's PD everywhere.
- Special Agent Sheryll Barnes: Oh, my God. And what about the hack?
- Special Agent Nina Chase: Well, Hana said that it's still ongoing, but she doesn't think it's a big group of people anymore. It might just be one guy somewhere with a laptop using AI.
- Special Agent Sheryll Barnes: One guy?
- Special Agent Nina Chase: Yeah.
- Special Agent Sheryll Barnes: Well, I might know who. Tommy Hopkins had a wife, Mallory, who was murdered last year by a felon on early release. He was devastated, so upset. So was his dead wife's brother, Noah Caploe. So I'm looking at a picture of him right now. English professor at Colewood College. Lots of emails between the brothers-in-law about the government failing people and how something has to be done about it.
- Special Agent Nina Chase: I mean, the guy analyzes Chaucer. I highly doubt that he's hacking into a satellite system.
- Special Agent Sheryll Barnes: Unless he has help. Think about it. There were six users in that chat room-- Travis, Millie, the two snipers. Caploe would make five.
- Special Agent Nina Chase: And whoever's helping Caploe makes six. Okay. Where does Caploe live?
- Special Agent Sheryll Barnes: Arlington, but he's gotta be smart enough not to hack from there.
- Special Agent Nina Chase: Wait. Hana said they would need a powerful enough server. And who has those?
- Special Agent Sheryll Barnes: Colleges.
- Special Agent Sheryll Barnes: Colewood's only three miles away. How close are you?
- Special Agent Nina Chase: Two minutes.
- Special Agent Sheryll Barnes: Call campus PD and SWAT. I'll be waiting for you out front.
- Special Agent Nina Chase: Alright.
- Supervisory Special Agent Remy Scott: Hey, Nina. What's up?
- Special Agent Nina Chase: [distorted speech] I got an ID on one of our guys. Name's Tommy Hopkins. I'm at his body shop.
- Supervisory Special Agent Remy Scott: Nina?
- Dennis Owen: There's no service down here. You gotta go upstairs.
- Supervisory Special Agent Remy Scott: Alright, I'll be right back.
- Director James: Mm-hmm.
- Supervisory Special Agent Remy Scott: Hey, Nina. Sorry about that.
- Special Agent Nina Chase: Yeah, we got an ID on one of our guys. Name's Tommy Hopkins. I'm at his body shop now. Place is empty, but the van we're looking for is here.
- Supervisory Special Agent Remy Scott: Hana just told me this hack could be one guy and a laptop. If it's Hopkins, we need to find him fast.
- Special Agent Nina Chase: All right. I'm headed to the house now. Barnes is there. I'll call her, okay?
- Special Agent Hana Gibson: Valerie had big financial problems. She was paying for rehab for her sister at some schmancy clinic in Boston. Now, she was relying on a promotion and a raise at NASA to help cover it. But for the first time in history, a qualified woman was overlooked for the job. So she was really pissed. She filed a lawsuit for discrimination, but it got dismissed in a technicality.
- Special Agent Ray Cannon: So twice burned by a system that was supposed to protect her.
- Special Agent Hana Gibson: Yes, and a desperate need for money.
- Supervisory Special Agent Remy Scott: What's Millie and Travis's connection to that?
- Special Agent Hana Gibson: Well, it's weird. There really isn't any, but they were in their own legal hell. Have you heard of the 861ers?
- Supervisory Special Agent Remy Scott: Those knuckleheads? They claim all federal income taxes should be illegal.
- Special Agent Hana Gibson: That was Travis and Millie. They hadn't filed a return for 12 years. The IRS slapped a lien on their house, and it sold at foreclosure last month. They lost everything.
- Supervisory Special Agent Remy Scott: What'd they think was gonna happen?
- Special Agent Ray Cannon: Still, that's three people with really big grudges against the government. Now, what about Woody?
- Special Agent Hana Gibson: Just an opportunist and a stalker. He had all of Valerie's passwords saved on his laptop. He was tracking her texts and emails. My guess is that he saw something about meeting up with Travis, he followed her there, and he ended up way in over his head. I mean, he's more into greed than ideology.
- Special Agent Sheryll Barnes: Laptop from Travis and Millie's, they were all over some website called Trace Burn.
- Special Agent Ray Cannon: Well, that tracks. That place is a cesspool for anti-government nuts.
- Special Agent Nina Chase: Yeah, they were super active until about a month ago, then they disappeared and joined some private chat page that we couldn't get into.
- Special Agent Hana Gibson: Okay, that's because it's a crash-and-trash site. It's like Snapchat for conspiracy nuts. They encrypt it so that all their messages disappear. Okay. So I'm in the private chat room. Well, I can't see the messages, but it looks like there are six users. I mean, it's safe to say that two of them are Travis and Millie.
- Special Agent Sheryll Barnes: Driver and the shooter make four. Who's the other two?
- Special Agent Ray Cannon: One could be Valerie, if that's how she and Travis met.
- Special Agent Hana Gibson: I mean, maybe. It's impossible to tell. All of these handles are anonymous and encrypted. It's just users one through six.
- Supervisory Special Agent Remy Scott: All right, whoever this is or whatever they're planning, we're not gonna get there tonight. Let's hit the hotel. Start fresh in the morning. Nina, can you hang back for a second?
- Special Agent Nina Chase: Sure.
